Mysuru: From June 11, 2023, to June 30, 2025, over 31 crore women in Mysuru district availed free bus travel under the Shakti scheme, said Pushpa Amaranath, vice-chairperson of the Karnataka State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority. Speaking to reporters after taking part in celebrations marking the scheme's milestone of 500 crore free journeys across Karnataka, held at the city's rural bus stand, where she distributed sweets to passengers, she highlighted that the Shakti scheme, one of the Congress govt's flagship five guarantees, resulted in 500 crore free journeys by women statewide. Yuvanidhi scheme a beacon of light for unemployed youth, says Pushpa Amarnath

The Yuvanidhi scheme has become a guiding light for unemployed youth and has been instrumental in helping them shape their future, said Pushpa Amarnath, vice-chairperson, Karnataka State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority. She was speaking after inaugurating an awareness programme on the government's flagship programme 'Yuvanidhi' at Maharani's Arts College for Women, here on Wednesday. Dr. Amarnath spoke at length about the guarantee schemes and the background in which they were launched, highlighting that Yuvanidhi, Gruha Lakshmi, and Shakti schemes were strong initiatives that had left a positive impact on the women of the State. 'These schemes have brought about a revolutionary change in the lives of women and helped empower them to face any challenges,' she added. Describing unemployment as a major challenge, she said securing a job was difficult even for the educated due to lack of opportunities in fields or jobs that align with their educational qualification. The Congress introduced the Yuvanidhi scheme to help unemployed graduates by providing them with stipend. She urged all those eligible to register in large numbers and take advantage of the scheme to build a better life. She pointed out that the State government was offering training in 40 types of skills that were in demand in the market and urged all women and graduates to upskill by enrolling for the same. 'We need to develop the courage to face hardships and surmount them,' she added. D.M. Rani, Assistant Director of the District Employment Exchange Office, emphasized that no one should miss out on the benefits of the Yuvanidhi scheme. Ms. Rani said the awareness programme was organised so that college students not only understand the scheme themselves but also spread awareness on it. 'Since we live in a competitive world, getting a job is difficult for everyone. Therefore, the Congress government introduced this scheme to help students prepare for competitive exams and shape their futures positively,' said Ms. Rani. The students were told that all eligible individuals can register daily through the Seva Sindhu portal. But once registered, they must submit a self-declaration between the 1st and 25th of every third month. If not, the Yuvanidhi benefit will not be disbursed. Office-bearers of the District Guarantee Schemes Authority, N. Prakash, Coordinator of IQAC at the college, and other staff and students were present.
