Party high command asks Siddaramaiah to rein in erring legislators
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is learnt to have been asked by the Congress central leadership to rein in the party legislators who have been publicly making accusations of lack of funds and corruption and embarrassing the government. During a meeting held with AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala in New Delhi on Tuesday, internal developments in the party came up for discussion, sources in the Chief Minister's Office said. Mr. Surjewala is learnt to have told Mr. Siddaramaiah to control the legislators from speaking in public and causing embarrassment. 'The Chief Minister has been asked to issue a serious warning to the erring legislators,' said the source. Incidentally, the Chief Minister has said he would meet Aland legislator and Karnataka State Policy and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman B.R. Patil and North-Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation chairman and Kagwad legislator Bharamagouda (Raju) Kage, both of whom have publicly admitted to corruption in public works and slow-paced development owing to paucity of funds. On Council nominations The issue of the nomination of four persons to the Legislative Council was among the other political developments in the State that were discussed. While the list was almost ready, the central leadership asked the government to withhold it and not send it to the Governor. 'Mr. Surjewala informed that the list would be finalised once the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, who is travelling, returns. The same list is likely to be retained,' sources said. Meeting with Murmu Earlier, the Chief Minister met President Draupadi Murmu to discuss the Bills awaiting the President's assent and requested her to clear them. 'Seven Bills have not received the assent, and I came here to request their clearance. The President informed me that the Bills are not with her, but with the departments concerned. I have requested her to get the Bills from the departments and clear them,' the Chief Minister told presspersons in Delhi, after the meeting. The Bills that are pending with the President are: the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2015; the Karnataka (Mineral Rights and Mineral Bearing Land) Tax Bill, 2024; the Registration (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2024; the Notaries (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2025; the Registration (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2025; the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements (KTPP) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2024. While the KTPP Act amendment Bill seeks to provide 4% reservation to Muslims, the amendment to the endowments Act seeks to transfer 10% of the gross income of the temples having over ₹1 crore to a common pool to be used in smaller temples and for welfare schemes of the priests.

Ahead of Delhi visit, Siddaramaiah meets Governor to discuss pending Bills with the President
Ahead of his visit to Delhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday met the Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot to discuss the Bills that are pending with the President's office for assent and those that have been returned seeking clarification. According to sources, the Chief Minister is scheduled to meet President Draupadi Murmu to discuss the pending Bills. Sources said five Bills are pending with the President currently, and three Bills have been sent back for clarification. He was accompanied by Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar when he met the Governor. Among the Bills pending with the President are the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2015; the Registration (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2025; the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements (Amendment) Bill, 2025; and the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The three Bills that have been returned for clarification are the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance, 1944 (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2022; the Registration (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2024; and the Karnataka (Mineral Rights and Minerals Bearing Lands) Tax Bill, 2024. Sources in the Chief Minister's Office said Mr. Siddaramaiah has scheduled events in Raichur on Monday, after which he would leave for Delhi from there. The meeting with the President has been scheduled for Tuesday.

Karnataka high court stays new BBMP tender, indicates possible contempt
Bengaluru: The high court has stayed BBMP's new tender notification for solid waste management issued on May 28, while directing the state govt to submit an affidavit explaining its actions. Justice M Nagaprasanna said the move appeared to be prima facie contempt of court. The order came while hearing a review petition filed by the Bengaluru Mahanagara Swachate Mattu Lorry Malikara Hagoo Gutthigedarara Sangha. The petitioner challenged the fresh tender notification and sought a review of the court's earlier judgment dated April 22, which had upheld a previous BBMP tender issued on Nov 7, 2024. In the earlier order, the judge had allowed the petitioners to participate in the new tender process and directed the state to submit an affidavit outlining a revised timeline for completing it. "The state shall redraw the timeline for the completion of the process of tender at an outer limit of four months, if not earlier. The timeline shall be filed before this court, by way of an affidavit, for its strict adherence," Justice Nagaprasanna had said in the April 22 order. He had added that if the timeline was violated, the petitioners had the liberty to return to the court. In contrast, the advocate general submitted that there was no breach of undertaking as the May 28 tender was distinct from the earlier one. He said an affidavit would be filed to clarify the sequence of events. The Sangha has also raised objections to a govt order dated May 26, which it claims includes clauses that require ministerial approval — allegedly in violation of the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements (KTPP) Act. According to the petitioners, the issuance of the new request for proposal (RFP) two days later further undermined the court's April 22 judgment, where the state's undertaking was explicitly recorded. The court will continue hearing the matter after the affidavit is filed.

Karnataka hikes housing scheme quota for minorities from 10% to 15%
The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday (June 19, 2025) approved a proposal to increase the reservation from 10% to 15% for minorities under various State government housing schemes. Briefing the Cabinet decisions after the meeting, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil said the move was based on the disproportionately high number of houseless individuals among minority communities in both urban and rural areas. Muslims form the bulk of the minority population in Karnataka. Norm in Centre The Law Minister pointed out that the Centre had issued guidelines and it had already provides 15% allocation for minorities, and Karnataka was following it. Minority communities have long been requesting the hike in quota in the housing schemes, he added. The decision will apply to all housing schemes implemented by different departments, including Housing and Urban Development, across the State. While the opposition BJP criticised it as 'appeasement politics', Mr. Patil said the decision showed the government's commitment to equitable housing. ''Housing for All' is the key slogan of the Congress government, and we are committed to ensuring that every citizen has access to a home,' he said. Many houseless individuals belong to downtrodden communities and minorities, and the decision to increase the quota reflects this ground reality, he said. 'The government is firm in its stand that all houseless individuals, regardless of their community, should be provided with housing,' Mr. Patil said. Defending the decision, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said, 'There is a large urban population, and many minorities and poor people are part of it.' In contracts Thursday's decision was followed by the government's proposal to extend quota benefits for Muslims in contract allocations, indicating a bigger push for minorities in welfare initiatives. The State legislature passed the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements (Amendment) Bill, 2025, aimed to provide a 4% quota for Muslims in government contracts of under ₹2 crore. The BJP legislators was strongly opposed the Bill. After returning it twice, the Governor has forwarded the Bill for President's assent.

Panchayat officials must improve efficiency: ZP CEO
Mandya: Taluk panchayat executive officers and panchayat development officers (PDOs) must perform their duties with efficiency, discipline, and integrity—earning recognition while avoiding public complaints, said zilla panchayat chief executive officer KR Nandini. Addressing a grievance redressal meeting for PDOs at Ambedkar Bhavan, Nandini emphasised the importance of self-satisfaction in public service and noted that several PDOs in the district were recognised for their exemplary work. To further encourage performance, she announced that PDOs' health will be assessed every six months, and those demonstrating exceptional work will receive awards in the presence of their families. 17,500 register for summer camp Citing the successful registration of 17,500 children for summer camps organised across all gram panchayats in the district, Nandini attributed the achievement to effective coordination between taluk panchayat executive officers and PDOs. She underscored the need for continued teamwork to serve the public efficiently. She clarified the grievance escalation protocol: unresolved complaints at the taluk level should be forwarded to the district authorities. Additionally, PDO association office bearers have been tasked with organising regular meetings at both taluk and district levels. Nodal officers assigned to each taluk will be available every Monday and Thursday from 3 to 4pm at the district headquarters to hear public grievances.
