Ali Fazal Weighs In On Deepika Padukone's 8-Hour Shift Demand: 'Can't Put A Template'

For context, Deepika Padukone was initially cast opposite Prabhas in Spirit. Reports claim she exited the project after her requests were not met. Actor Ali Fazal has weighed in on the 8-hour shift demand that has stirred Bollywood. The buzz around Deepika Padukone's reported exit from Spirit, directed by Animal filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga, continues to dominate conversations in the film industry. At the heart of the matter lies her request for an eight-hour workday—a demand that has sharply divided opinion across Bollywood. In a recent chat with SCREEN, Ali said, 'I am pro everybody being satisfied. At the end of the day, we are creators. This is not like a corporate job. No offence to them, but it is not. Creating things takes a lot of compassion. It needs to be mutually decided between actors, creators and technicians, 'What is the displacement of the hours in that particular project?'" He added, 'Sometimes, some projects don't require much because it is VFX-heavy. Some projects require more because it is action and drama. The genre changes the working style. That's the kind of industry we are in. You can't put a template. This is all subjective. This is not for others to discuss and throw their opinions. It is harsh asking people to take sides. It is not fair." Recently, Ram Kapoor also offered his take on the controversy. Speaking to Firstpost, the Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat actor shared his nuanced perspective, drawing from his own long-standing experience in television and film. 'Once you have achieved success in showbiz—whether as a star or an actor—and people want to work with you, then yes, you are in a position to choose how many hours you want to work," Ram said candidly. 'Even when I was doing television, I used to decide how many hours I wanted to work. So I've been lucky. Anybody who reaches a level where they don't have to find work is in that position to choose," he added. For context, Deepika Padukone was initially cast opposite Prabhas in Spirit. Reports claim she exited the project after her requests—including an eight-hour shoot cap, a share in profits, and not having to speak lines in Telugu—were turned down. She has now reportedly been replaced by Animal breakout star Triptii Dimri. First Published: July 17, 2025, 14:46 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ram Kapoor Reacts To Deepika Padukone's Exit From Spirit: 'You Earn The Right To...'

Ram Kapoor supports Deepika Padukone's 8-hour shift request after her Spirit exit, citing his own experience with setting work limits during his TV career. Read his take. While some view it as a progressive step toward improving working conditions in showbiz, others argue that such decisions aren't always straightforward. Veteran actor Ram Kapoor is the latest to offer his take on the controversy. Anybody who reaches a level where they don't have to find work is in that position to choose." However, he also emphasized the importance of commitment once a project is signed: 'Most of us actors, myself included, know that when we sign on to something, we have to do that project to the best of our ability. That's what it's all about." Recalling his television days, Ram revealed that he had once set an eight-hour limit for himself too. 'Television was nonstop. There were no seasons. It was every day, every month, for years. So I said, 'I'll work only eight hours a day.' But with films and OTT shows now, like Mistry, I sometimes work 14 to 16 hours a day—but just for a few months. And I have no reason to complain. This industry is tough, the hours are long, but I feel blessed that I'm doing what I love." He added with humility and gratitude, 'I just want to stay in a space of happiness where I know how lucky I am. I don't want to fall into that trap of constantly complaining. But that's just me—it doesn't mean I'm right and others are wrong." Ram's measured response adds to a growing chorus of voices in the industry reacting to Deepika's situation. Recently, Vikrant Massey came out in her support, stating that she 'deserved" an eight-hour schedule, especially as a new mother. Others reportedly supporting her include Pankaj Tripathi, Vinay Pathak, Saif Ali Khan, Ajay Devgn, Kajol, and filmmaker Mani Ratnam. However, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma dismissed the issue entirely, suggesting it's been 'blown out of proportion." For context, Deepika Padukone was initially cast opposite Prabhas in Spirit. Reports claim she exited the project after her requests—including an eight-hour shoot cap, a share in profits, and not having to speak lines in Telugu—were turned down. She has now reportedly been replaced by Animal breakout star Triptii Dimri. First Published: July 17, 2025, 11:21 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
