Shubhangi Atre recalls how Rupali Ganguly would take care of her daughter Ashi during Kasturi days; says ‘I would call her Ma and she would call her Nani'

Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain actress Shubhangi Atre recently opened up about her early years in the television industry, sharing heartwarming memories and the struggles she faced as a working mother. In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan on his podcast, Shubhangi recalled how her Kasturi co-star Rupali Ganguly played a special role in her life off-screen as well. Shubhangi revealed, 'Ashi used to come to the set. Piyush would bring her to set. Sometimes she used to stay with me the whole day. Rupa Ganguly was playing my mother in Kasturi. So I called her Rupa Ma and Ashi called her Nani. So Rupa Ma used to take care of Ashi. And then my parents came to take care of Ashi. They came from Indore.' Reflecting on that phase, she added, 'Because I don't remember the one year in Kasturi as my birthday… I don't remember any days. I was a zombie. I used to fly like a zombie.' Discussing the demanding schedules of television at the time, Shubhangi admitted how exhausting it was to establish herself as a newcomer. 'Everyone used to rag me when I was new. I used to sit for hours on the sets. And back then, there were no 12-hour shifts. Actors were on set around the clock,' she said. Describing the long working hours in detail, she recalled, 'Sometimes when I left home on a Wednesday, I'd return only on Friday or Saturday after the telecast. It was cut-to-cut telecast, and I worked day and night. I used to shoot for 30 days non-stop.' Despite these challenges, Shubhangi believes her struggles taught her resilience. She credits those initial years for shaping her into the dedicated and versatile actress she is today. Her journey stands as a testament to the sacrifices and hard work that fuel success in the entertainment world.

I don't want to offend anyone, but there are very few good male actors on TV. He is genuinely a very good actor, and I've learned a lot from him.' She then added, 'Whatever stories you've heard from that time—I feel they were necessary for me. It was like a little ragging. Just like engineering or medical colleges, where there's a bit of ragging that helps you become tough, that's what it was for me. I consider that as my ragging period.' (Photo Credits: Instagram) Shubhangi Atre gained widespread recognition for playing the role of Angoori Bhabhi in the popular show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain. Recently, the actress, during an interview, opened up about her personal life, highlighting the challenges she faced early in her marriage and the difficult choices she had to make for her and her daughter's well-being. During a conversation with Sidharth Kanan, the actress said, 'I got married pretty young. It was a love marriage. My baby was also born early. It was a blessing at the time, as God had intended. Now I'm comfortable and relaxed, and my daughter is studying abroad." Reflecting on the early days, she stated, 'I knew very early that I needed to work. After 7 days of marriage, I was giving an interview at a laser cosmetics clinic. There were financial constraints." Shubhangi got married in 2003 at the age of 20 and welcomed her daughter, Ashi, when she was 21. Her then-husband, Piyush, worked in marketing and sales. They had known each other through family gatherings. However, the couple got separated after 17 years of marriage and finalised their divorce in February this year. Furthermore, she recalled why she decided to marry Piyush and said, 'I received a marriage proposal at the time, and I married Piyush to avoid the situation. A known demon is better than an unfamiliar one. Twenty is not an optimal age for marriage. I married a friend." Earlier, Shubhangi faced criticism for her separation from Priyush, after his sudden demise. Reacting to the comments, she told ETimes, 'People were quick to pass judgment without fully understanding the situation. They assumed I left him because I was successful, but this was incorrect. His alcohol addiction took a toll on our lives. I tried everything, including sending him to rehab. It wasn't impulsive. Things started to go downhill around 2018–2019. I had to prioritize Ashi's well-being." Her daughter, Ashi, is residing in the United States where she is pursuing her education in Astrophysics. Shubhangi has also appeared in shows like Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kasturi, Karam Apnaa Apna, Kumkum- Ek Pyaara Sa Bandhan, Chidiya Ghar and Do Hanso Ka Joda among others.
