I'm bringing the internet style of filmmaking to my film: Ken Royson
'I have directed a lot of music videos. Because of that, I think I can technically pull off this film easily, as it's in my ground. I can also play with VFX and the new Internet style of filmmaking, as the film is a fantasy,' says Ken. Whether it's a film or a music video, I always want to do something cool and fresh with a unique style,' remarks Ken Royson. Ken, who has directed popular music videos like Katchi Sera , Illuminati ( Aavesham ) and Jorthaale. Ken is now set to make his feature film debut with a fantasy romcom starring Kavin and Priyanka Mohan . 'I have directed a lot of music videos. Because of that, I think I can technically pull off this film easily, as it's in my ground. I can also play with VFX and the new Internet style of filmmaking, as the film is a fantasy,' says Ken. 'Nowadays, I think people like to see heartwarming and positive films. So, I wanted to do a film in this genre rather than action. Films belonging to the fantasy romcom genre have come out a lot in Tamil, but mine will be more musical,' he elaborates. Coming from a dance and music background, Ken shares that he wanted to do something 'poppy, vibrant and cool' for his debut film. 'This one will be a new-age romance drama. It is about life giving you chances and you using them the right way. The script demands a boy next door who can emotionally connect with the younger audience. And Kavin was my first choice. I also thought Kavin and Priyanka's pairing would be good. I particularly like her performance in Doctor and her dance in Golden Sparrow .' The film's shooting starts in October, he informs. Ken further says he will bring in his experience in directing music videos into the music of the film, which will be composed by OfRo. 'I'm doing everything to crack situations in the script itself to make the best music videos. The film will feature songs of Asal Kolaar and several independent artistes,' he states. He signs off by stating that even though he has ventured into direction, he is still open to helming music videos as well. 'I won't be directing any music videos until this film is done, but after that, I will be back to directing music videos as well. In fact, I hope to do music videos all my life,' he concludes. Sai Abhyankkar opens up on landing six big projects before his composer debut
Popular indie singer-composer Sai Abhyankkar seems to be the talk of the tinsel town. The 'Katchi Sera' sensation, whose debut project as a film composer is yet to be released, has already signed six upcoming big-star films, an unusual feat that has become a topic of discussion on social media. Now, in an interview, Sai has opened up on the signing spree, crediting positive talks among industry insiders for this. 'See, most of the names I am currently working with are all huge. So, if the audiences are thinking so much about this, imagine how much the directors and producers would have. Almost everybody in the industry know each other. So it's all about networking,' said Sai, in an interview with film critic Sudhir Srinivasan. 'I have a hunger to create good music, present something new to the audiences, and be among them. I want to work a lot, make some good movies, present my soundscape, and see how they receive it. The whole point is about what difference we are creating, isn't it?' the composer said, before crediting the producer of his debut film, the Raghava Lawrence-starrer Benz, for paving the way for this incredible line-up. 'I should thank Sudhan sir (Sudhan Sundaram of Passion Studios); he's the one who signed me solely based on one popular track ('Katchi Sera'). That's how it started. So they listened to my songs and they spoke about it with others in the industry. That word-of-mouth played a part, but I also believe that this is God's plan. Moreover, many films that I had signed much earlier are being announced only now,' added Sai. Sai's dream line-up includes Benz, a Raghava Lawrence-starrer that is part of the LCU; actor Suriya's Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji; Silambarasan TR's STR 49with Ramkumar Balakrishnan; Karthi's Marshal, directed by Tamizh; Pradeep Ranganathan's Dude, co-starring Mamitha Baiju; Shane Nigam's Balti, directed by Unni Sivalingam; and the biggest of them all, Allu Arjun's much-anticipated magnum opus with Atlee, tentatively called AA22xA6.

Kavin's next, a fantasy rom-com co-starring Priyanka Mohan, launched
Tamil actor Kavin's next, co-starring actor Priyanka Mohan, was launched today (Wednesday, July 16) with a pooja ceremony in Chennai. The film, tentatively called Kavin 09, is directed by Ken Royson, best known for helming the 2024 web series Kana Kaanum Kaalangal and the music video of singer-composer Sai Abhyankkar's hit indie track 'Katchi Sera.' The makers unveiled pictures from the pooja ceremony to announce the news. Details regarding the cast and crew of the film will be unveiled soon, said the makers. Swaroop Reddy is producing under the Think Studios banner. Notably, this comes just days after it was announced that Kavin has teamed up with director Ram Sangiah, who made an impressive debut with 2023's Thandatti. Expected to commence shoot soon, the film is produced by S Lakshman Kumar under the Prince Pictures banner. Meanwhile, Kavin, last seen in Bloody Beggar, also has Kiss, co-starring Preethi Asrani, Mask, co-starring Andrea Jeremiah, and an untitled film with Nayanthara in different stages of production.

Music sensation Sai Abhyankkar's 6 star-studded films awaiting to hit big screens
It's raining big projects one after another for young musician Sai Abhyankkar. Just in his early twenties, Sai Abhyankkar has four indie music tracks to his credits, and has already bagged six prestigious projects in the making. Son of singers Tippu and Harini, Sai Abhyankkar rose to fame with the single track Katchi Sera. After the song went viral, he released three tracks till date, Aasa Kuda, Sithiri Puthiri and Vizhi Veekura, in all of which he performed and sang. With the young musician the current sensation in Tamil cinema, it looks like Sai Abhyankkar has his kitty filled with some of the most expected projects. While six projects have been officially announced, there is also Atlee-Allu Arjun film and Sivakarthikeyan-starrer that are yet to formally confirm Sai Abhyankkar's presence. Backed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, and directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan, the film features Raghava Lawrence and Nivin Pauly in the lead roles. After Kaithi, Vikram and Leo, Benz will join the LCU line-up of films. This means Sai Abhyankkar will join the list of Anirudh Ravichander and Sam CS who scored for LCU films earlier. Karuppu Karuppu, starring Suriya in the lead role, will have music scored by Sai Abhyankkar. While it is to be noted that the makers had first announced that Karuppu's music will be done by AR Rahman, for reasons unknown, Sai Abhyankkar has replaced him. Directed by RJ Balaji, the film also features Trisha, Swasika, Indrans, Yogi Babu, Sshivada, Natty Subramaniam and others. Dude The team of Dude vibrates with youthful energy, given the film is directed by debutant Keerthiswaran, while it stars Pradeep Ranganathan and Mamitha Baiju in the lead roles. Sai Abhyankkar scores the music for the film which is backed by Mythri Movie Makers. Dude is set to release in theatres for Diwali this year. STR49 STR 49 is an upcoming project starring Silambarasan in the lead role. The film is helmed by Ramkumar Balakrishnan who made his debut with the critically acclaimed film Parking. Sai Abhayankkar is scoring music once again for a biggie, which also stars Kayadu Lohar and Santhanam. Balti Balti will mark the Malayalam debut for Sai Abhyankkar. Featuring Shane Nigam in the lead role, the film is eyeing for an Onam release. Balti is a sports drama and marks Shane's 25th film. It was only recently the makers of Balti introduced Sai Abhyankkar into their project, as a promo video showed the young musician getting a call from Mohanlal. Marshal Marshal is the latest project to officially confirm Sai Abhyankkar's presence. Headlined by Karthi and directed by Tamizh of Taanakkaran fame, Marshal is touted to be a period drama set against the coastal regions. Actors Sathyaraj, Prabhu, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Lal, John Kokken, Murali Sharma, Easwari Rao and others are also cast in Marshal. This means Sai Abhyankkar will be scoring for both the brothers; Suriya in Karuppu and Karthi in Marshal.

8 projects 20-year-old musician Sai Abhyankar has lined up even before his feature film debut
Music composer and singer Sai Abhyankar gained fame last year through songs like Katchi Sera and Aasa Kooda that became viral hits. And it looks like producers are looking to cash in on that fame, as the 20-year-old has eight movie projects lined up even before he has made his feature film debut. Sai Abhyankar has released independent music since Valam Varavendum in 2023. Sai Abhyankar's upcoming projects Sai seems booked for the foreseeable future with Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam projects. In 2025, he has Unni Sivalingam's Malayalam-Tamil film with Shane Nigam as the lead lined up. He also has Keerthiswaran's Tamil film Dude with Pradeep Ranganathan and Mamitha Baiju as the leads. But the composer seems to have entered the big leagues now, given that he has also been roped in for the music of Atlee's Allu Arjun-starrer, RJ Balaji's Suriya and Trisha Krishnan-starrer Karuppu and Tamizh's Karthi-starrer Marshal, which was announced on Thursday. Bakkiyaraj Kannan's LCU film Benz with Raghava Lawrence, and Ramkumar Balakrishnan's untitled film with Simbu. And if sources are to be believed, he will also compose music for Vinayak Chandrasekaran's upcoming film with Siva Karthikeyan. All of these films are slated for release this year and next. About Sai Abhyankar Sai first debuted as a composer in 2023 with Valam Varavendum, for which he wrote his own lyrics. He then signed a contract with Think Music India and released songs like Katchi Sera and Aasa Kooda in 2024 and Sithira Puthiri and Vizhi Veekura this year. What many might not know is that Sai has a music legacy to live up to. Born in 2004, he is the son of famous playback singers Tippu and Harini. Tippu is the man behind hit songs like Oh Mama Mama from Minnale, Elae Machi (Reprise) from Anbe Sivam, Girlfriend from Boys, and more. More recently, he sang Sooriya Paarvaigaley from Vaathi. Harini is the voice behind Telephone Manipol from Indian, Vaarayo Thozhi from Jeans and Sutthi Sutthi from Padayappa. More recently, she sang Veera Raja Veera and Aazhi Mazhai Kanna in Ponniyin Selvan II.
