Emergency crews raced to the busy A96 Inverness to Nairn road in the Highlands on Tuesday afternoon. The collision involved a red Vauxhall Insignia car and a white Ford Transit Tipper van. Alison Campbell, 65, who was the passenger in the car, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 69-year-old man, was rushed to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. Medical staff describe his condition as critical. The driver of the van was uninjured. Cops locked down the road for eight hours to allow collision investigators on the scene. It reopened again at around 11.25pm the same day. Police confirmed that enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing. And they have urged anyone with information to get in touch. The passenger of the car, a 65-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been named as Alison Campbell. The driver of the car, a 69-year-old man, was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where he remains in a 'critical condition'. The driver of the van was uninjured. Police Scotland is urging anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward. Sergeant Kate Finlayson said: 'Our thoughts are with Alison's family and friends at this difficult time.
