'Students engaged in a series of physical challenges and competitions, facilitated by Planet Fitness, with various prizes up for grabs,' said Traill. 'The initiative aimed to promote more than just athleticism; it emphasised the long-term benefits of incorporating exercise into daily routines, especially during academically demanding periods.' Sam Mkwanazi, a representative from Planet Fitness, spoke on the importance of exercise in managing academic stress, particularly during exam preparation. 'Students need to take life one day at a time. Patience is key to achieving one's goals, and using physical activity to combat stress can be effective.' Mkwanazi added that when a student exercises, their dopamine levels rise, which has statistically proven to improve stress levels. 'Creating a routine, and showing up for yourself, will only ever benefit you in the future. If one can handle the gym, one can handle life'. Traill pointed out that the initiative enjoyed a strong turnout and positive feedback from participants, many of whom noted feeling more motivated to include exercise as part of their daily routine. 'By blending fun, competition, and health awareness, Planet Fitness and The IIE's Varsity College Sandton campus successfully highlighted the holistic benefits of staying active, especially when navigating the pressures of student life, as well as better equipping students to perform both in the classroom and beyond.'
