Loving Giving Local: Rhoxon Productions

Movie enthusiasts will benefit from this week's Loving Giving Local donation. A local movie production company that sponsors a film festival is this week's recipient. Rhoxon Productions got a financial gift from Auto Express Resale Center. Rhoxon is an Erie-based non-profit independent film company that creates organic stories that promote a positive change. Besides creating art, Rhoxon strives to create jobs and educational opportunities in the film industry. 'Our last few projects have been about healing and about coping, and our next two are about revamping the social justice system,' said Katie Nixon, RhoxonProductions co-founder. 'That's sort of our creative endeavors, and we also create educational opportunities for people to learn how to do this professionally.' Nixon says Rhoxon has a vision of creating 50 new jobs in the film industry here. And she insists you no longer have to be on the East or West Coast to have a film career. 'No, the landscape has changed so much. Even Netflix has created their new studio out in Jersey. It's not just that you have be in New York or LA,' she explained. 'Erie is kinda a really interesting place. You have beach, you have woods, you have city, you have country all within 15 minutes of each other.' That landscape diversity, Nixon said, makes Northwest Pennsylvania the perfect place for shooting movies. This week's Loving Giving Local donation will help support an upcoming film festival. Nixon said, 'We started the only multi-genre film festival here in Erie. It's the Lake Effect Film Festival, which will be in September. So that money will go to help make that event possible.' After making his check presentation, Joe Askins of Auto Express Resale Center said, 'We're pretty fortunate to have Rhoxon in our community and they're already doing great things. So for us to be able to deliver loving giving local and to learn the donation we bring is going toward their film festival, that's what Loving Giving Local is all about,' Askins said. Officials work to identify driver of fatal single vehicle crash in Nashville

Nashville police say the driver of a Nissan Murano involved in a single vehicle crash around 4:30 a.m. Sunday on Glastonbury Road at Southwood Park Place has died. A Metro Nashville Police preliminary investigation noted the vehicle was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed when it ran off the right side of the road as it approached an intersection. The vehicle struck a brick wall and culvert – a structure like a pipe or tunnel that allows water to flow freely under a road or through an embankment. The driver was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died, police said. Police have not identified the driver. Police say the Medical Examiner's Office will work to identify the driver and conduct toxicology tests. Tennessee cops: 'Goose carcass' found after camoed group shot bird at city park, took it

Three teenagers and a 20-year-old found themselves in the center week-long, multiagency investigation after authorities say they shot and killed a goose in a Gallatin city park last week. The group, dressed in camouflage, were seen by witnesses getting out of an SUV with a shotgun around 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 20 at Lock 4 Park in Gallatin, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said in a release this week. An eyewitness heard a gunshot and saw the group return to their vehicle with a goose, the release said. Gallatin police were called to the scene, where they recovered a single 20-gauge shotgun shell. Police say a photograph of the group and their SUV, a Chevrolet Tahoe, were provided by a witness. Multiple agencies including the TWRA, Gallatin Police and Sumner County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the shooting. After the Gallatin Police Department shared a photo of the SUV on social media Sunday, an anonymous tip led police to the group. In addition to the 20-year-old, authorities said there was an 18-year-old and two minors involved in the case. A goose carcass was found during a search of the SUV owner's residence, the TWRA release said. A shotgun was also confiscated by the TWRA. Police questioned each group member and charged the 20-year-old with several misdemeanors including Illegal Take of Wildlife, Illegal Possession of Wildlife and Violation of Wildlife Management Area Rules.
