Oman-India ties deepen through art and yoga
MUSCAT: Under the leadership of Dr Kavitha Ramakrishna, the Tamoghna Foundation, headquartered in Bengaluru, has emerged as a transformative force not just in India but also across borders - most notably in Oman. With a deep commitment to wellness, cultural revival and civic engagement, Dr Kavitha has forged meaningful connections between the two nations through her unique blend of Tanjore art, yoga mentorship and cross-cultural initiatives. In Oman, she has earned recognition as a cultural ambassador, particularly for her efforts in introducing and teaching yoga and mindfulness to local women, and for showcasing traditional Indian Tanjore painting enriched with Omani cultural motifs - including inspirations drawn from national monuments and traditional jewellery. These works have not only captivated art lovers, but also created a new dialogue between ancient Indian artistry and Omani heritage. Back in India, her foundation recently collaborated with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to conduct a special yoga session for sanitation workers on International Yoga Day, reinforcing her mission to uplift underserved communities. The event, part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, highlighted the importance of mental and physical well-being for frontline civic workers.

Indian ambassador applauds cultural fusion in Tanjore-inspired Omani art
MUSCAT: In a meaningful exchange of artistic tribute, renowned artist Dr Kavitha Ramakrishna recently presented G V Srinivas, the Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, with original oil painting portraits of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. The portraits, crafted with deep respect and admiration, honour the visionary leadership and enduring legacy of the Sultanate. During the meeting, the ambassador also had the opportunity to view Dr Kavitha's collection of Tanjore paintings, which uniquely blend the intricate traditional South Indian art form with the elegance of Omani jewelry and the historical monuments of Oman. This ongoing artistic endeavor reflects the cultural harmony between India and Oman, two nations deeply connected through their rich heritage and mutual respect. As part of the presentation, Dr Kavitha also handed over a copy of her book Tamoghna, which explores her reflections on sun salutation and Yoga. The Ambassador expressed heartfelt appreciation for her work, praising her as a 'true cultural ambassador' who bridges the artistic legacies of both nations. This significant interaction highlights the strong cultural ties between India and Oman and reinforces the role of art in fostering dialogue, understanding, and unity between diverse communities.
