New York Giants football is back. Officially. Big Blue opened their 2025 training camp on Wednesday, and we're already getting our first glimpse at rookie first-round pick Abdul Carter in action. Check it out: The Giants selected Carter with the third overall pick, and he's expected to emerge as the team's best pass rusher on a defense that already includes Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Dexter Lawrence. Carter and fellow first-round pick, Jaxson Dart, will be the primary focus of New York Giants fans who attend training camp practices. And while it may take some time before Dart cracks the starting lineup, it'll be all gas and no brakes for Carter from Week 1. MORE NEW YORK GIANTS COVERAGE

Ranking the 25 best Oregon Ducks since 2000: No. 19 — Kayvon Thibodeaux
Over the last 25 years, the Oregon Ducks have been one of the single best teams in all of college football, sitting near the top of the sport for the better part of a quarter-century. Since 2000, Oregon has compiled an overall record of 239-83 (.742), with just two losing seasons during that span. They've been to 24 bowl games, won three Rose Bowls, been to a pair of College Football Playoffs, and appeared in two National Championships. They've seen a Heisman Trophy winner in Marcus Mariota and had 99 players selected in the NFL Draft. It's safe to say that when looking at the nation's best in this millennium, Oregon belongs in the conversation. But who are the players who helped get Nike University into that conversation? That's a different question entirely. To celebrate the quarter-century mark, we're going to dive into that question over the next month as we approach the start of the 2025 season. The Ducks have had hundreds of memorable and beloved players over the years, many of whom will live on forever in some way. But who is the best of the best? That answer, of course, is subjective. When reviewing the numbers and conducting our research, we took several factors into account: career statistics, overall impact and success, legacy, fan adoration, and NFL success. Boiling 25 years of Oregon football down to 25 players is no easy task, and not one that we took lightly. Dozens of players were left on the cutting room floor who deserve a spot in the top 25, and at some point, subtracting names off the list started to feel like pulling teeth. But in the end, we were left with 25 players, whom we will honor over the next few weeks. If you want to catch up, let's take a look at how we've gotten to where we're at in the rankings: Today, let's continue with No. 19 — the game-wrecking Kayvon Thibodeaux. Player Overview A five-star recruit out of Oaks Christian High School in California, Kayvon Thibodeaux committed to play for Oregon and became the highest-rated commit in program history, a title he holds to this day. He played three seasons with the Ducks, spending the majority of the time in the opponents' backfield. He burst onto the national scene as a true freshman, leading Oregon in several major statistical categories. His dominance didn't end there, as he registered 10 sacks over his final two seasons and was named the Pac-12 Championship Game MVP in 2020 and was a unanimous All-American in 2021. With his massive, yet athletically gifted frame at 6'5" and nearly 260 pounds, Thibodeaux routinely commanded double- and triple-teams. He was undoubtedly one of the best — and most feared — defensive linemen in college football across his three seasons. Kayvon Thibodeaux Career Stats 32 Games — 126 tackles, 34 TFL, 19 sacks Single Best Season 2021: 11 games — 49 tackles, 12 TFL, 7 sacks Though Thibodeaux battled an injury that caused him to miss two games, he still led the team in both tackles for loss and sacks and had a number of dominant, game-changing performances throughout the season. Despite Oregon finishing with a relatively disappointing 10-4 record and an Alamo Bowl loss, Thibodeaux was a finalist for both the Bronco Nagurski Trophy and Chuck Bednarik Award, was a unanimous All-American and was named PFF's Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. Kayvon Thibodeaux NFL Draft Thibodeaux's NFL-ready frame and skills led to his selection as the fifth overall pick in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. He was Oregon's first top-five selection since Marcus Mariota went No. 2 overall in 2015. Kayvon Thibodeaux NFL Success The immense talent Thibodeaux displayed at Oregon has been evident in spurts with the Giants, as he amassed 11.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in his second season. Yet he missed eight games combined in his rookie and third year, combining for 9.5 sacks total. But at just 24 years old, Thibodeaux still has tons of room to grow into a potential All-Pro type of player in the future. Kayvon Thibodeaux's Lasting Legacy Thibodeaux is unquestionably one of the most dominant defenders ever to don the green and yellow for the Ducks. He came out of high school with sky-high expectations and more than lived up to them, collecting accolades and leaving as a bona fide game wrecker. Now in the Big Apple, the support for Thibodeaux is still very strong among Duck fans despite being all the way across the country. Giants Recent First-Round 'Bust' Faces Make-Or-Break Situation
Giants Recent First-Round 'Bust' Faces Make-Or-Break Situation originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New York Giants offensive lineman Evan Neal was supposed to bring about positive change for the organization. Advertisement As the former No. 7 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and the second top-10 pick by the then-new regime, Neal and EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux were expected to usher in a new era of Giants football. But what the fan base has been given, on the field, has been much of the same. Thibodeaux now finds his name daily in the trade rumor mill. But Neal is worse off. Neal's tribulations have been well documented. He has struggled in his natural tackle position and has moved inside to guard. The Giants hope this position change will finally allow the Alabama Crimson Tide product to show he belongs as a starter — and a good one — in the NFL. Advertisement There are now financial reasons Giants fans want to see that happen this year. Neal is one of 26 players on the current Giants roster in the final year of his contract. That's why The Athletic called Neal the team's biggest contract worth watching. "Neal earned plenty of starting reps this spring as the Giants managed their starters' workloads," The Athletic said. "Now, Neal's most likely path to a starting spot would be beating out the 35-year-old Greg Van Roten for the right guard role. How the position switch goes will determine Neal's future in New York." Neal's struggles throughout his career are a clear example of the issues that general manager Joe Schoen has had throughout his run with the team. If Neal doesn't pan out at guard, then the Giants will have wasted a top-10 pick on an offensive lineman no longer on the team five years later. Advertisement Too many 2025 failures like that? There's a good chance Schoen won't be around much longer, either. It's quite simple for Neal. One, play well and salvage his career. Or two, struggle to beat out veteran role players and end up being the first of many changes while being stuck with the dreaded "bust'' label. NFL Writer Names One Shocking Trade NY Giants Should Make
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Despite the New York Giants' public commitment to Kayvon Thibodeaux, trade rumors continue to surround the talented pass-rusher. Much of the chatter emanates from the Giants' current status as a non-contending team and a looming contract extension for the 2022 first-round pick. Some analysts argue that it may be more strategic for New York to acquire assets before Thibodeaux reaches free agency. ESPN's Aaron Schultz recently released his final offseason moves for all 32 teams, indicating that the Giants should move on from Thibodeaux. "The Giants now have three starting edge rushers for two spots after drafting Abdul Carter to go along with Thibodeaux and Brian Burns. Thibodeaux has two years left on his rookie contract, and he'll need an extension after the 2025 season. The team won't want to pay him at the going price for starting edge rushers if he's not going to be starting. Yes, New York can use an edge rusher rotation and get plenty of value out of him. It can create a NASCAR-style package where one of its edge rushers moves inside on third down. But the Giants can also trade Thibodeaux to a contender that needs help on the edge, such as the Packers or the Lions, and probably get a Day 2 pick in return. More draft capital would be a huge help for 2026 when they'll be trying to find as many strong offensive players as possible to build around quarterback Jaxson Dart and wide receiver Malik Nabers." Thibodeaux is looking for some redemption this season. More Photo by Mike Stobe/2023 Mike Stobe Following a disappointing 3-14 campaign, both General Manager Joe Schoen and Head Coach Brian Daboll are under pressure to deliver immediate results — the organization appears unwilling to embrace a full-scale rebuild. In that context, parting ways with one of their few proven defensive playmakers would be counterproductive. The Giants picked up Thibodeaux's fifth-year option in April, keeping him under contract through 2026. Schoen told the media that although the team selected Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall pick, Thibodeaux is a factor in their long-term plans. "Kayvon is going to be here. We're excited to have him. You can't have enough pass rushers," Schoen said. "Between those guys coming off the edge, Dex (Dexter Lawrence) in the middle, Nacho (Rakeem Nunez-Roches), Roy Robertson-Harris, I'm excited about the D-line. We added (Jeremiah) Ledbetter, Chauncey Golston. So we're turning the corner where there's some depth at some of these positions, and that will really help us. I'm excited about the group. We're phase 1, so Shane (Bowen) and his staff and Dabs (Brian Daboll) will get together and figure out the creativity of how they're going to utilize the personnel." Kayvon Thibodeaux has been a consistent presence on the field for the Giants, starting in 43 games and compiling 21 sacks, 26 tackles for loss, 46 quarterback hits, 11 passes defended, six forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. Thibodeaux is the first Giants defender since Jason Pierre-Paul (2010–2012) to record at least 21 sacks within his first three years in the league. Packers Blockbuster Trade Proposal Lands $31 Million Pass Rusher
Packers Blockbuster Trade Proposal Lands $31 Million Pass Rusher originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With less than three weeks until training camp begins, General Manager Brian Gutekunst still has time to make a few final additions before the Green Bay Packers resume team activities. Still, that should not stop him from seeking upgrades during the preseason if the right opportunity comes along. Advertisement If the Packers were to make any additional acquisitions, they would most likely come on the defensive side of the ball. The team did a solid job this offseason of surrounding quarterback Jordan Love with more talent—both in the receiving corps and along the offensive line. However, on defense, there is still a noticeable void: the Packers lack a true No. 1 cornerback and are missing a superstar-caliber pass rusher to anchor the defensive line. Green Bay is betting on internal growth, trusting that Jeff Hafley and DeMarcus Covington can elevate the defense through development. Still, it would not hurt to explore a few additional options—whether on the free-agent market or via potential trades with other NFL teams. With that in mind, AtoZ Sports writer Wendell Ferreira, along with Colts beat writer Destin Adams and Saints beat reporter Adam Holt, proposed a blockbuster three-team trade involving the Packers, Giants, and Raiders. "The Packers didn't invest much in the edge defender position this offseason, despite underwhelming production from the group in 2024. Even though general manager Brian Gutekunst is not exactly aggressive in the trade market, Kayvon Thibodeaux is the type of player he would consider," Wendell wrote. "The edge rusher is young, plays at a premium position, is a former top-5 pick, and has a track record of solid production in the NFL. The Packers would absorb $4.978 million in 2025 and $14.751 million in 2026, which is an excellent value." Wendell also pointed out Romeo Doubs' contract situation, noting that it could influence Green Bay's decision to include him in a trade package. "Parting ways with Romeo Doubs might not be an easy decision, but he's entering the final year of his rookie deal, the Packers haven't wanted to give him an early extension, and his ceiling is limited," he wrote. "To make things fair, Green Bay would also send the Giants a fourth-round pick, but that's still a great net value to the roster." Advertisement Kayvon Thibodeaux recorded 21 sacks and 121 pressures in his first three seasons with the Giants. In 2024, New York traded for Brian Burns and then selected Abdul Carter third overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. While Thibodeaux should still see some playing time in New York, the significant investments in Burns and Carter—both projected starters—could create a scenario where Thibodeaux becomes available for trade.
