Wide receiver named Tennessee Titans' biggest remaining need
There are only 13 days left before the Tennessee Titans report to training camp, and there is still time to add a player or two to the roster in hopes of adding competition or building depth. While moves at this stage of the offseason aren't usually impactful, this year, some high-profile players remain unsigned, and some of them could come to Nashville to compete for playing time. With questions at wide receiver, edge, and inside linebacker, options are available, including Amari Cooper, Za'Darius Smith, and Kyzir White. Josh Edwards of CBS Sports took a look at the current Titans' roster and came up with what position he believes is their most significant need heading into training camp. Tennessee Titans: Wide receiver The average fan would be hard-pressed to name anyone in the Titans' linebacker room right now. Cody Barton, Otis Reese IV, Cedric Gray and James Williams Sr. are on the two-deep depth chart. Beyond Calvin Ridley, incoming rookie quarterback Cam Ward will be throwing to the likes of Van Jefferson and Tyler Lockett. An investment in the offensive line should buy him more time, but coach Brian Callahan has his work cut out for him to scheme open that group. When looking strictly at the depth chart, adding a receiver to the unit would make sense. Neither Lockett nor Jefferson is in their prime, and their production has declined over recent seasons. Adding a veteran like Keenan Allen, a big-bodied receiver and technician, to complement Ridley would be an option. This take, however, discounts the potential impact of the stable of young wide receivers that the Titans have amassed. Not only did they add three explosive rookies, but young players like Bryce Oliver will also have a chance to step up and make plays. This isn't to say that adding a wide receiver isn't something that should be on the team's radar; it should be. But that can wait until the pads go on and the staff can see their young players in real action. This article originally appeared on Titans Wire: Wide receiver named Titans' biggest remaining need

Chargers' Mike Williams retirement has every fan clamoring for the same free agent signing
The Los Angeles Chargers lost a veteran receiver on Thursday when Mike Williams announced his retirement. After a year away, Williams had returned to play his eighth year with the Chargers, but it wasn't meant to be. Football fans have already locked in on how the Chargers might replace Williams. Keenan Allen is still a free agent. He's one of the best offensive players in Chargers history, and even last season with the Bears, Allen was solid. NFL rumors: Steelers expected to sign ex-Bears WR Keenan Allen ahead of camp
The Pittsburgh Steelers may have added superstar DK Metcalf earlier this offseason, but their wide receiver corps still lacks depth and veteran experience. As training camp approaches, one name stands out as a logical fit—Keenan Allen. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Bleacher Report's Moe Moton predicts the Steelers will pursue the six-time Pro Bowler in free agency to strengthen their passing attack. Keenan Allen could complete Steelers' wide receiver puzzle Despite a few big-name additions, the Steelers' offense remains incomplete, especially at wide receiver. After trading George Pickens to the Cowboys, Pittsburgh's WR room is thin beyond Metcalf and Calvin Austin III. That's why NFL analyst Moe Moton believes veteran wideout Keenan Allen should be their next big target. Allen, 32, is no longer in his prime but remains an ultra-reliable pass catcher. In 2024, while playing in a struggling Chicago Bears offense, Allen still managed 70 catches for 744 yards and seven touchdowns. His ability to move the chains and win on short-to-intermediate routes could complement Metcalf's deep-threat prowess and Austin's speed in the slot. Over his 12-year NFL career, Allen has recorded six 1,000-yard seasons and five campaigns with over 100 receptions. His consistency, route-running precision, and leadership make him an ideal No.2 option for new quarterback , who thrives with intelligent, sure-handed targets. From a financial standpoint, Allen is unlikely to command a massive deal at this stage in his career. A short-term, incentive-laden contract could be a perfect low-risk, high-reward move for general manager Omar Khan, who has already made bold acquisitions this offseason. Adding Allen would not only bring experience but also help Rodgers settle into a new system with a veteran presence he can trust. With the AFC North shaping up to be one of the league's most competitive divisions, Pittsburgh can't afford to enter the season with uncertainty at wide receiver. A trio of DK Metcalf, Keenan Allen, and Calvin Austin III offers balance, versatility, and proven production. Also Read: If Pittsburgh wants to maximize Rodgers' final championship window, bolstering the WR room with a player like Allen is a move that makes sense both on the field and on the cap sheet.

All-Pro Receiver Issues Hard 'No' To Signing With Steelers
All-Pro Receiver Issues Hard 'No' To Signing With Steelers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers offense has suddenly taken on a new feel this offseason. The signing of Aaron Rodgers has followed months of rumors leading to this point ... and the Steelers deserve credit for other major moves as well. Advertisement Having said that ... While Rodgers still has the competency of a starting quarterback, the physical traits and the ability to shoulder the majority of the load has faded over the years. The Steelers must have a strong enough support system in order for him to be successful this season. The trade for DK Metcalf alleviates some of that concern but the other pieces around him leave something to be desired. The Steelers appear comfortable with the pass-catching group of Robert Woods, Calvin Austin III and Pat Freiermuth. One would think, however, interest from any enticing free agents left on the market may catch their eye. Advertisement But notably, the world is now aware of a rather a strong announcement of rejection from veteran receiver Keenan Allen. He appeared on a stream with JGoofy this week, positing a bold defiance against playing for the Steelers. "There's two sides to the story,'' he said. "A-Rod being the quarterback — of course that interests you. But Pittsburgh? No." It's a bold response from the six-time Pro Bowler who has yet to find his next destination. Allen spent his first 11 seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers franchise before spending last season with the Chicago Bears. Despite the need for proven receiving talent in Pittsburgh, a commitment to a team that has struggled to get their offense right for so many years is apparently a hard sell for a player in Allen's position. Advertisement So they get a hard "no.'' There's no guarantee the Rodgers experiment itself works out in the favor of the Steelers, adding more risk for any veterans looking to hop on board. Perhaps the Steelers find one more player to aid Rodgers in the passing game. But Allen has made it perfectly clear he has no interest in playing for the Black and Gold. 49ers Urged to Sign Keenan or Amari as Aiyuk Insurance
49ers Urged to Sign Keenan or Amari as Aiyuk Insurance originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The NFL free agency period is all but over as many teams are content to enter training in a few weeks with the rosters they have. For the San Francisco 49ers, the mission this offseason was more about retaining key pieces than signing external players. Advertisement However, with top wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk being sidelined for at least the first month of the season, the Niners could be inclined to find a stopgap wideout among the few left in free agency. CBS Sports notes that Amari Cooper and Keenan Allen are clearly the most accomplished and valuable receivers still without a home for 2025. At this late stage of the offseason, they could be signed for cheaper than what they would usually go for. Writer Cody Benjamin names San Francisco as potential buyers for either player. "The 49ers used the first waves of free agency to purge rather than collect big names, but neither Allen nor Cooper would likely cost a ton at this point of the offseason," Benjamin wrote. "Yes, San Francisco's wide receiver corps is theoretically set for the long term with both Brandon Aiyuk and Ricky Pearsall in tow, but the former is still recovering from a serious injury, and Pearsall only has 11 NFL games under his belt." Advertisement Insurance? That's part of the idea. Either Cooper or Allen could provide valuable leadership traits and experience that the 49ers will be missing with Aiyuk on the sidelines. Pearsall is entering just his second NFL season after a topsy-turvy rookie campaign. Jauan Jennings had a breakout year in 2024, but he's still just now becoming a reliable target. George Kittle will be one of the most-used receiving tight ends in football this season, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to relieve him of some of that load, given that he is also called to be a blocker. "After securing Brock Purdy for the long haul, it's not hard to envision Kyle Shanahan wanting to give his young quarterback added insurance out wide, especially in the form of a proven route-running possession target like Allen or Cooper," Benjamin added. Advertisement Purdy and his $53 million salary will already be facing a lot of pressure ahead of 2025 following the 49ers' disappointing season a year ago. An added receiving weapon with veteran experience could remedy any concerns of an ailing pass game.
