What makes YOUR school kind?

A school in Northampton has been named the kindest in the UK by a national charity. East Hunsbury Primary School has been given the Kind School Award by the charity 52 award recognises the school for "creating and embedding a culture of kindness". The primary school has kindness ambassadors who are pupils that attend East Hunsbury. They focus on helping with the wellbeing of other students. The school also holds regular wellbeing sessions. Greig Trout, from the charity, said: "Be kind is their school motto, and that is incredible. It's so lovely to be here and see it in action."The school was presented with the award by a team from 52 Lives. "It cements our passion as a school to teach our children to be kind and to keep on moving forwards with that," said Kelly Roberts, who is the primary's mental health lead. Charity crowns Northampton primary school 'kindest' in the UK

A school has been crowned the kindest in the UK by a national Hunsbury Primary in Northampton, which has 450 pupils, has designated kindness ambassadors and holds regular wellbeing charity 52 Lives has given it the Kind School Award, which recognises "creating and embedding a culture of kindness"."'Be kind' is their school motto, and that is incredible. It's so lovely to be here and see it in action," said Greig Trout, from the charity. The primary's mental health lead, Kelly Roberts, said getting the award was "really affirming"."It cements our passion as a school to teach our children to be kind and to keep on moving forwards with that," she added. The charity got its name because every week it chooses someone in need of support and shares their story on its website, connecting them with people who can offer website states it aims to spread kindness and "empower children by helping them to realise that the little choices they make every day have the power to change people's lives".The school was presented with the award by 52 Lives' School of Kindness team. Jaime Thurston, also from 52 Lives, said "at the School of Kindness we believe that kind is the most important thing a child can be".It gives free workshops at primary schools and offers offers grants to children with "ideas for spreading kindness" in their school or community. The school's designated kindness ambassadors are pupils who focus on helping with the wellbeing of their of them is 11-year-old Freya, who said her job was to "make sure everyone is safe, happy and secure". Noah, 10, said "out of all those thousands of schools, we have one of the kindest".He added: "I'm just really proud of our school." Northampton primary school lessons to focus on mental health

A primary school said it would focus more on pupils' mental health during its PSHE lessons due to concerns that children had growing emotional needs, especially after the Covid Hunsbury Primary School in Northampton has redesigned its Personal, Social, Health and Economic teaching with more emphasis on mental resilience and coordinator, Kelly Roberts, said: "We were noticing our children were coming in [after Covid] with a range of different needs, particularly around mental health. It was really screaming out that it was a gap [in the curriculum] and something we could help our children with."The plans followed feedback from pupils and parents, the school said. Ms Roberts said: "The purpose is to support the children's mental health and give them strategies for positive mental fitness."One of the school's other initiatives is a Kindness Ambassador programme, where older pupils make sure everyone feels included during break an ambassador in Year Six, said: "Anyone can apply to be one. They go out and make sure everyone is happy and that everyone has someone to play with."Polly, from Year Five, added: "I've learned to be kind to myself and believe in myself. Don't say mean words, because it can hurt feelings - even to yourself."The UK Covid-19 Inquiry is due to hear evidence around the impact of the pandemic on children from 29 September to 23 October.
