Canada-wide warrant issued for 34-year-old man for Pickering fire ruled a homicide
Police are issuing a Canada-wide warrant for a 34-year-old man wanted for murder after a deadly house fire in Pickering, Ont., last month. Durham police responded to a house fire on June 11 at around 2:20 p.m. and found a 69-year-old woman dead inside the home. Investigators ruled the death a homicide a week later and identified two suspects in connection to the murder. They arrested and charged a 34-year-old woman and are still searching for a second male suspect wanted for second-degree murder. Police say they believe this is an isolated incident with no threat to public safety. World Curling tightens sweeping rules, bans firmer broom foams ahead of Olympics
PERTH – World Curling has tightened its sweeping equipment rules heading into the Olympic season. The move, announced Friday, follows concern over firmer broom foams that many players said gave sweepers too much control. Several high-profile models — including some from Goldline, BalancePlus and Hardline — are now banned. Only brushes with less-firm foam are approved for competition, effective immediately. World Curling said the decision followed extensive consultation with players, manufacturers and ice experts, as well as a sweep-testing exercise at the Morris Curling Club in Manitoba. Officials say it's a first step, with long-term reviews and equipment standards still in development. With the new regulations, the BalancePlus RS with Firm 2.0 foam, Goldline Impact with Evader or Pursuer foam, Hardline Ice Pad with Competitive foam, and SmartBroom by Curling Tools with current foam are no longer approved for play. Thunder on the wrong end of 36-9 run, head home for Game 7 showdown against resilient Pacers
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The run lasted about 12 minutes, roughly the span of a full quarter. When it started, Oklahoma City was down by just one point. And when it ended, plans for Game 7 were being made. There was no championship celebration for the Thunder on Thursday night — and their first chance at winning these NBA Finals was a colossal dud. Oklahoma City got blown out 108-91 by the Indiana Pacers in Game 6, sending the series back to the Thunder's home floor for a winner-take-all Game 7 on Sunday night. The margin didn't reflect how one-sided the game was. Indiana led by as many as 31, the second-biggest lead a team has held over Oklahoma City all season. It was 34-33 Indiana with about four minutes gone in the second quarter. And about four minutes into the third quarter, it was 70-42 Indiana — the game having completely gotten away from the Thunder. The run was 36-9 — repeat, 36-9 — and just like that, a team that won 68 games in the regular season and finished with the best record in the NBA has been pushed to the brink by an Indiana team that finished 18 games back of the Thunder in the league standings. They're even now: The series is 3-3, and it all comes down to Sunday. During that 36-9 run, the Thunder were offensively inept: They shot 3 for 18 during those minutes, with seven turnovers in there to make matters even worse. Animal-rights protester runs onto field during Club World Cup match with anti-Morocco message
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — An animal-rights activist ran onto the field during a Club World Cup match between Manchester City and Wydad at Lincoln Financial Field on Tuesday, urging Morocco to reform its treatment of stray animals. The man wore a shirt that read, 'Morocco, end the stray dog massacre,' and carried a sign that read, 'Morocco: stop shooting dogs and cats.' He ran for a few seconds before he was tackled by security workers and escorted out of the stadium. The protester's shirt and sign included the logo of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Wydad is based in Casablanca, Morocco. PETA has been critical of the Moroccan government for its treatment of stray cats and dogs. Morocco is among the hosts of the 2030 World Cup. The government has expanded a 'Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate and Return' program for stray animals, but activists have claimed that animals are being killed rather than neutered.
