Minute by Minute, and How 5 New Orleans Escaped Inmates Were Found
It looks like we're down to just five of the 10 escaped inmates still on the loose from a New Orleans jail. The planned escape is the biggest in Louisiana history, and Americans are watching the aftermath play out. The mayhem first ensued when ten men broke out of Orleans Parish Justice Center on May 16. As the investigation into the successful escape plan continues, several jail employees have been arrested and folks online are even placing their best bets for who will be the last inmate to be apprehended. So far, five of the ten men have been transported to a more secure facility following their recapture, according to reports. But if you haven't been keeping up with which escapees are still on the run, here's a full timeline of how each got caught. Kendell Myles, 20, was the first to be taken into custody after escaping from Orleans Parish Justice Center (OPJ) the same day he ran away. Hours after fleeing, he was captured on Instagram live saying 'Fresh out of jail. Stop Playing.' And just a few more hours after that, he was apprehended in the French Quarter after a brief foot chase, according to officials. This isn't the first time Myles escaped from a jail. Back in 2022, the 20-year-old escaped from the Bridge City Center for Youth, according to WWLTV. Robert Moody, 21, was caught hours after Myles' arrest on Friday. He was found in the New Orleans neighborhood of Central City after a caller contacted the Crime Stoppers tip-line, according to FOX 8 New Orleans. By the time police caught up to him, he had a brand new wardrobe, wearing BAPE and Nike brands. The third escapee was apprehended three hours later around 10 p.m. the same day, according to DKenan Dennis, 24, was arrested near Chef Menteur Hwy and Dale Street. The next day (May 17), LA State Police announced a $12,000 reward for any information to help find the rest of the inmates. On Monday (May 19), Gary Price, 21, was arrested by police as the fourth escapee. According to reports, he had been hiding out at a vacant home on Good Drive. 'Price will ultimately be transported to a secure state facility outside of the area,' state police said Monday. Video soon circulated online of Price allegedly sleeping on a bench at a bus stop. Police have not confirmed the identity of the man in the viral video. On Tuesday (May 21), Corey Boyd, 19, became the fifth escapee to be caught. Exclusive video obtained by WDSU showed Boyd's arrest as he's standing in an apartment building hallway just two miles from the jail. 'The idea that they're bringing this hell— this fresh hell to your doorstep means that they don't care,' Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams said of anyone offering help to any of the escapees. 'Someone had to provide that access, and that help... is a crime,' he continued, highlighting that anyone assisting the men will be prosecuted. Cortnie Harris and Corvanntay Baptiste were arrested on felony accessory charges. Police say Harris drove two of the escapees, making multiple stops around New Orleans. Baptiste is accused of helping Boyd get food. Police are still on the hunt for five inmates (Antoine Massey, Lenton Vanburen, Leo Tate, Derrick Groves and Jermaine Donald). The award has been increased to $20,000. For the latest news, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

New booking photos released of recaptured Louisiana inmates as manhunt continues
Louisiana law enforcement officials released new booking pictures of four captured inmates who escaped a jail in New Orleans as they face new charges. The Louisiana Department of Public Safety released new booking pictures for Kendell Myles, Robert Moody, Gary Price and Dkenan Dennis, all of whom are accused of escaping the Orleans Justice Center on Friday. Six inmates are still at large. Price, who was arrested Monday, faces new charges of simple escape, possession of a controlled substance and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. He was initially arrested for attempted first-degree murder, domestic abuse and aggravated assault. Myles was also charged with simple escape after he was found hiding under a car in a hotel parking lot on May 16. Moody and Dennis, too, were charged with simple escape, a Louisiana State Police spokeswoman told Fox News Digital. Sterling Williams, 33, an employee of the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office, was arrested Tuesday and charged with 10 counts of principal to simple escape and malfeasance in office, according to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill's office. Williams allegedly shut off water to the cell that the inmates escaped from, and rather than reporting the inmates, Murrill said, Williams helped them. He allegedly told detectives that the escapees threatened to "shank" him if he didn't help them break out of the jail, according to an arrest affidavit. Williams told police that one of the escaped inmates attempted to grab his phone and "get him to bring a book with cash app information." He was booked into jail on Tuesday. "This is a continuing investigation, and we will provide updates as often as possible. We will uncover all the facts eventually, and anyone who aided and abetted will be prosecuted to the full extent the law allows. I encourage anyone who knows anything, and even those who may have provided assistance, to come forward now to obtain the best possible outcome in their particular case," Murrill said. Derrick Groves, 27, who was convicted of killing two men on Mardi Gras in New Orleans in 2018, is one of the escapees still on the run. He was awaiting sentencing when he broke out of jail. In a statement given to the New Orleans City Council on Tuesday, Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson took "full accountability" for the jailbreak. "It is deeply troubling to me, as your sheriff, and I know it is equally troubling for you, the public, who we are sworn to protect," Hutson said. Hutson said in a Facebook statement she takes "full accountability for what happened." "This breach happened under my leadership, occurred on my watch, and it is my responsibility to ensure it is addressed with urgency and transparency," she said. The following fugitives are still at large:

Fourth New Orleans jailbreak suspect caught as manhunt enters day five
The fourth of 10 men who broke out of New Orleans' jail was captured Monday, leaving authorities still searching for six as the manhunt for the escapees entered its fifth day Tuesday. Early Friday, 10 men in custody at the Orleans Justice Center (OJC) – many awaiting trials or sentencing for violent charges, including murder – yanked open a cell door, slipped through a hole behind a toilet, scaled a barbed wire fence, scampered across a highway and fled into the dark. Kendell Myles, 20; Robert Moody, 21; and Dkenan Dennis, 24, were all caught still within New Orleans hours later. Authorities did not arrest any additional escapers over the weekend before taking Gary Price, 21, into custody late Monday. The public official in charge of the jail, Orleans parish sheriff Susan Hutson, has since said faulty locks and cell doors, along with well-documented staffing shortages at the jail, were among the key factors in the breakout. As the Associated Press has reported, just 10 days before the escape, Hutson's office asked for money to fix the locks and cell doors in question. But other officials say Hutson – who oversees the control and custody of those detained at the OJC – is responsible for the security lapses which led to Friday's breakout at the jail, which for years has been subject to federal monitoring and a consent decree aimed at improving conditions there. Notably, there are reportedly indications that those who escaped may have had help from inside Hutson's ranks. There are also indications that someone with access to power tools made the hole used for the escape; that there was a lack of monitoring of the cell pod where the escapers had been contained; and that law enforcement took seven hours before a routine headcount revealed to them that anyone had fled from the OJC. Louisiana state representative Aimee Adatto Freeman, who represents much of New Orleans's uptown section, called on Hutson to resign amid multiple investigations into Friday's escape, saying: 'Rather than take accountability, she's pointed fingers elsewhere. Blaming funding is a deflection – not an excuse.' Hutson is facing re-election in October. Three challengers hoping to unseat Hutson have said Friday's escape should be disqualifying for her, according to the local news station WVUE. The AP contributed reporting

New Orleans Inmate Escape Update as Two Seen on Surveillance Video
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Two of 10 inmates who recently escaped from New Orleans have reportedly been seen on surveillance video walking the French Quarter. Newsweek reached out to the New Orleans Police Department, Louisiana State Police and the FBI for comment. Why It Matters Seven inmates who remain at large following an escape from the Orleans Parish Jail in New Orleans early on May 16 may have "received assistance in their escape from individuals inside of our department," according to Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson. Two of the inmates have been apprehended, and one remains in custody. The FBI, at the request of NOPD, is throwing its resources toward the investigation and discovery of the remaining inmates—originally offering a reward of up to $5,000 per inmate for tips leading to arrests. They later doubled that amount to $10,000 per inmate. What To Know A video provided by Project NOLA reportedly shows two of the male inmates walking in black hoodies and jeans near HUSTLER Hollywood on Bourbon Street, with a video timestamp showing their activity occurring before 10 a.m. on Friday, May 16—the day of the escape, according to local CBS affiliate 4WWL. One of the inmates was identified by authorities as Kendell Myles, 20, who was arrested again at about 11:30 a.m. that morning. He was taken into custody by Louisiana State Police after reportedly hiding under a car at the Hotel Monteleone parking garage. He's been re-booked for simple escape. The inmates who escaped have been named by law enforcement as Antoine Massey, Lenton Vanburen, Leo Tate, Kendell Myles, Derrick Groves, Jermain Donald, Corey Boyd, Gary Price, Robert Moody and DKenan Dennis. Aside from Myles, Moody and Dennis have been found and taken into custody. Project NOLA, self-described as "the most successful and cost effective crime camera program in America," has been in operation since 2010 and has aided in over 500 homicide investigations, thousands of gun-related crimes, and myriad property crimes involving thefts and burglaries. Working hand in hand with the NOPD, Project NOLA says its services helped reduce the murder rate in New Orleans to a 47-year low in 2018. There were also reportedly double-digit reductions in non-fatal shootings and robberies nationwide. What People Are Saying In an earlier statement to Newsweek, the sheriff's office said: "The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office is putting the public on alert as deputies and partner agencies are searching for detainees who escaped custody Friday, May 16. OPSO is working with local and state law enforcement agencies on the search to return them to custody. OPSO will provide additional information as the investigation precedes." Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson said, as reported by Newsweek: "We are launching a full investigation to determine how this escape occurred, including reviewing facility protocols, staff performance and physical security measures. Any lapses or failures that contributed to this incident will be addressed swiftly and with full accountability." 7 men still at large after New Orleans jailbreak, reward at $20K each
Seven of the 10 men who busted out of a New Orleans jail remained at large Monday as a statewide manhunt entered its fourth day. The reward for tips leading to their recapture was raised to $20,000 per person on Sunday as federal and state authorities pleaded for the public's help in the case. 'We hope that in the coming days, if not the coming hours, that we have them all apprehended,' Louisiana State Police top cop Robert Hodges said at a Sunday press conference. 'But we need the public's help.' Investigators said they had leads on all seven men, but none had panned out by Monday afternoon. Three men who escaped the Orleans Parish jail early Friday morning had already been rearrested, one of which was aided by tips from the public, authorities said. But while Kendell Myles, Robert Moody, and Dkenan Dennis were nabbed by Saturday night, Corey Boyd, Leo Tate, Jermaine Donald, Derrick Groves, Lenton Vanburen, Antoine T. Massey and Gary C. Price remained at large Monday. Donald, 42, had been charged with second-degree murder, and Price, 21, was accused of attempted first-degree murder. Groves, 27, had already pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with a shooting that killed two people during Mardi Gras in 2018. Officials said the men likely had outside and inside help to get out of the jail. Three Orleans Parish sheriff's employees were suspended without pay shortly after the jailbreak. Police said anyone found aiding the seven men in their escape would also face charges. 'These are violent offenders who need to be put back into police custody immediately,' Gov. Jeff Landry said Sunday. _____
