This QB stat casts doubt on Notre Dame football's chances to win a title this fall

The quarterback position is the most important in position in football, and for Notre Dame this fall, they'll be breaking in a new starter. Either CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey will take over the Irish offense now that Riley Leonard has moved onto the NFL, and in a state shared by On3's J.D. Pickell, it looks like its going to be an uphill battle for Notre Dame to win the national championship. The former linebacker noted that there has been only one instance for a first-year starting quarterback winning the title over the last five years, and that was with Mac Jones and Alabama in 2020. He goes on to mention that five of the top six betting favorites to win a title this fall, don't have a returning starter. While Pickell doesn't name which teams they are, it's pretty easy to deduce which ones they are: Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, Alabama and Oregon. Only Penn State returns its starter from last year, and if you are like me, Drew Allar just doesn't do it for me, as evident by what Notre Dame did to the Nittany Lions in last years College Football Playoff. Every one of those other teams, along with the Irish will be breaking in a new starting quarterback. Unfortunately, there is one dark-horse that stands out, that wasn't included in that top group and its Clemson. They have a championship winning head coach, a three-year starter at quarterback returning, and a top defense to go along with it. While Notre Dame might not have the experience at quarterback, they do all over the rest of the field. Hopefully, that trumps breaking in a brand new starter behind center for the Irish and they can end a long title drought. Notre Dame 2025 Season Preview With Crain and Company

Notre Dame 2025 Season Preview With Crain and Company originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Notre Dame had an outstanding season in year three of the Marcus Freeman era, and the Irish will look to build on that in 2025. A season ago the Fighting Irish advanced to the national title game, and now in season four Notre Dame will look to take that final jump and try to a title. Advertisement I joined Crain and Company to preview the Notre Dame season: Here are some of the topics that we discussed: *** We discuss expectations for Notre Dame in 2025, and what the floor is for the team and what the ceiling is. I argue that at least getting back to the semi-finals is the floor of what we should expect from the Irish this season. *** We discuss the type of athlete that Notre Dame has landed since Freeman was hired as head coach. There is still a misconception about how good Notre Dame is athletically and we discuss that during the show. Notre Dame's depth of talent across the depth chart is very impressive. Advertisement *** Of course we spent time talking about the quarterback position, beginning with a look at redshirt freshman CJ Carr and how the Irish will build around their young quarterback. Carr is battling Kenny Minchey for the starting job and we discuss how the team can use the talent around them to thrive while the quarterbacks get experience. *** We talk the game that gives the most concern heading into the season, and that focus is on Texas A&M. *** We will discuss how the third-down and short yardage offense will look without Riley Leonard. We'll also spend time talking about what the offensive line looks like in 2025. *** We talk about what the floor and ceiling are for Notre Dame in 2025. Lindy's College Football preview magazine ranks Notre Dame football inside its top-10

Lindy's College Football preview magazine ranks Notre Dame football inside its top-10 Lindy's College Football magazine ranks Notre Dame No. 6 but projects the Irish to miss the College Football Playoff. Notre Dame will be favored in every one of its games this upcoming football season according to DraftKings Sportsbook, but one publication does not have the Fighting Irish in its College Football Playoff projections. Following a season in which the Irish set a program record for wins on their way to the national championship game, Lindy's Sports released its preseason college football preview magazine and ranked the Irish No. 6 nationally. Certainly a solid ranking, and the same spot Athlon Sports slotted the Irish in its preseason magazine, but Lindy's has Ohio State, LSU, Oregon, Alabama, Georgia, Miami and SMU earning at-large CFP bids and not Notre Dame. From the magazine: "We'll know early if Notre Dame's playoff expectation is warranted when the Irish play Miami, Texas A&M and Arkansas in the first four weeks. With only six players drafted, Notre Dame returns the wealth of a squad that was a few plays away from winning it all." - Lindy's Sports The Notre Dame defensive line and linebacker corps failed to make the Top 10 in Lindy's unit rankings, which is quite debatable. The magazine is also concerned about the quarterback situation, where either redshirt freshman CJ Carr or redshirt sophomore Kenny Minchey will be taking the first snap in the season opener at Miami Labor Day weekend. Despite the playoff snub from Lindy's, though, it's clear that national college football observers are bullish on the Irish to remain a national contender in 2025 and beyond.

So, it's a 3-point shot but the distance of the shot is shorter because of where he lets it go. Notre Dame has flipped the script at the Blue-Gold game

Notre Dame has flipped the script at the Blue-Gold game Kenny Minchey flips out, so to speak, after running touchdown Notre Dame struggled to find the end zone early in the Blue-Gold game, but it's starting to get untracked as the afternoon wears on. Penalties and sacks stalled early drives on the cusp of the red zone, but after CJ Carr found Elijah Burress for a short touchdown pass, Kenny Minchey, who is battling Carr and Steve Angeli for the starting quarterback job, used his legs for a touchdown, which he punctuated with a perfectly executed back flip. Minchey is probably the best running quarterback of the three. The offense (Team Blue) has opened up a big lead over the defense (Team Gold). It's 61-31 as of this writing, following another Irish touchdown.
