Kennywood employee saves ducklings from Pittsburg Plunge tracks
It's been hot in Pittsburgh, and everyone at Kennywood is trying to cool off in the Pittsburg Plunge — including a family of ducks. Kennywood on Tuesday gave a social media shoutout to Noah, an operations team employee who literally jumped into action to rescue baby ducklings. The park said the young duck family became stranded on the Pittsburg Plunge track after they went for a swim in the Lost Kennywood fountain. A video of the rescue went viral on TikTok, getting over 100,000 views. (Photo: londadah/TikTok) "It was a normal, crazy Saturday when our security team told us about the ducklings," Noah said on Kennywood's Facebook page. "Our team had to respond since they were in a ride area, and I was the only available supervisor to take the call. After talking with our safety director, we shut off the ride and I was given the okay to go in and rescue them." Kennywood said Noah put the baby ducklings in some nearby bushes and the parents quickly went over to make sure they were OK. The park touted Noah's other accomplishments, saying he's a past recipient of the Kennywood Academic Scholarship and was a Golden Tickets Award ambassador. He first started as a ride operator in 2017 and worked his way up to area supervisor. "CHEERS for jumping into action to help some baby ducklings in need, Noah!" Kennywood wrote. Also, some Pittsburgh trivia for you: The Pittsburg Plunge is spelled without the "h" because that's how Pittsburgh used to be spelled from 1980 to 1911.

Kennywood's Steel Curtain joins 4th annual World's Largest Coaster Ride
Kennywood's Steel Curtain reopens to the public on Saturday morning Kennywood's Steel Curtain reopens to the public on Saturday morning Kennywood's Steel Curtain reopens to the public on Saturday morning Kennywood launched 24 riders on the Steel Curtain Monday as part of the fourth annual World's Largest Coaster Ride. The World's Largest Coaster Ride is when several parks simultaneously dispatch coasters at the exact same time to celebrate the anniversary of LaMarcus Thompson's Switchback Railway, the first modern roller coaster. Kennywood sent two dozen riders, including American Coaster Enthusiasts members, up on the Steel Curtain at 2 p.m. According to the American Coaster Enthusiasts' website, several other parks, including Knoebels, Nickelodeon Universe and Silver Dollar City were scheduled to take part. At 220 feet, the Steel Curtain, named after the Pittsburgh Steelers' famous defense of the 70s, is Pennsylvania's tallest roller coaster. Flipping riders upside down nine times, the Steel Curtain has the most inversions of any coaster in the United States, and one of its inversions is the highest in North America. The Steel Curtain is back open at Kennywood after it sat out the 2024 season. The previous year saw the coaster closed on and off again, so crews made extensive modifications to increase the ride's reliability and longevity. Working with the ride's manufacturer, S&S Worldwide, Kennywood added three additional columns and several braces along the ride. Park management said they hope the 13-month closure pays off for coaster enthusiasts this summer.
