Large grass fire breaks out on Romney Marsh
A large grass fire has broken out in a rural part of Kent, a fire service has Fire & Rescue Service reported at 16:30 BST on Monday that it had four crews in attendance at the blaze in Dungeness Road on Romney crews are using a fogging unit and a high pressure hose reel jet in an effort to extinguish the flames, the service said. A spokesperson said: "People living or travelling near this area are being advised to close windows and doors due to a large plume of smoke."

Cow rescued after becoming trapped in mud
A cow has been rescued after getting stuck in mud in Kent. Nettie the cow was walking in the High Halden field, near Ashford, when she got bogged down in mud on Friday. Its owner, farmer Martyn Dean, said the rescue operation took nearly three and a half hours. Kent Fire & Rescue Service said: "Our animal rescue crews weren't cowed by the challenge and we pulled Nettie safely out with slings." The fire service said Nettie was helped back onto solid ground and was safe and well. "Nettie was checked by the vet and is now safely back in her barn enjoying some well-earned hay with her calf," a spokesperson said. Mr Dean said: "Kent Fire & Rescue were excellent, saving us and Nettie a whole heap of bother. "Just another legendiary rescue from KFRS' animal rescue crew." Two dogs killed in Petham mobile homes fires
Two dogs have died in fires at two mobile homes in Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to reports of the fires in Duckpit Road, Petham, on Monday at about 14:45 fire engines were sent to the scene and the crews extinguished the blazes and left the scene at about 21:30, a fire service spokesperson said. There were no reported injuries in the fires, which were believed to have been caused accidentally.

One person injured after car fire in road tunnel
One person has been injured after a car caught fire after a crash in a road tunnel in east Kent, police have said. Emergency services were called to the blaze on Royal Approach Road in Ramsgate just before 20:00 BST on Friday. Two fire engines attended and crews used compressed air foam systems to extinguish the flames. The fire service said one person was passed into the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service. The cause of the crash is unknown. Kent Police said the fire caused damage to a junction box in the tunnel, leading to a loss of power.
