Netflix Sets Release Date for ‘Alice in Borderland' Season 3, Drops First Teaser Trailer
Netflix is heading back to the Borderland. The streamer revealed Tuesday that it has set a Sept. 25 launch for the third season of the Japanese live-action hit Alice in Borderland, while also unveiling the first teaser trailer, giving fans a glimpse at the high-stakes survival drama's next twisted round. Directed once again by Shinsuke Sato and based on Haro Aso's cult manga of the same name, the new season continues the story of Arisu and Usagi as they're drawn back into the perilous limbo world known as the Borderland — a twisted realm that blurs the boundaries between life and death. The show has become one of Netflix's top-performing Japanese originals, with season two debuting at No. 1 on the streamer's Global Top 10 list for non-English-language TV upon launch in 2022. Returning stars Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya reprise their roles as Arisu and Usagi, now living a seemingly peaceful married life — until haunting visions and a mysterious disappearance force them back into the Borderland. Also returning are Hayato Isomura, Ayaka Miyoshi and Katsuya Maiguma. Season three adds a sizable roster of new castmembers, including Koji Ohkura, Risa Sudou, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Tina Tamashiro, Kotaro Daigo and Hyunri. Kento Kaku (House of Ninjas, Amazon's Like a Dragon: Yakuza) also joins the key cast as Ryuji, a man researching the afterlife who becomes Usagi's guide back into the deadly game world. The show's third installment is penned by Yasuko Kuramitsu and Sato, with a creative team that includes composer Yutaka Yamada, cinematographer Taro Kawazu, production designers Iwao Saito and Shin Nakayama, and VFX supervisor Atsushi Doi. The series is developed and produced by Robot, with production cooperation from Tokyo banner The Seven. Alice in Borderland has emerged as a flagship title for Netflix's Japanese content ambitions — a slick genre spectacle with philosophical undertones and a growing global fandom. The streamer is increasingly ramping up its investment in Japanese live-action originals, capitalizing on both strong domestic growth potential and the rising international appeal of all things Japanese. Earlier this year, the streamer scored a hit with Bullet Train Explosion, a high-octane action reboot directed by Shin Godzilla's Shinji Higuchi. Expectations are also high for Last Samurai Standing, a bloody battle-royale drama set to debut in November, with Junichi Okada leading a cast of nearly 300 samurai warriors in a survival contest during the Meiji era. Other recent entries include the supernatural action series YuYu Hakusho and the ninja-family thriller House of Ninjas, both of which cracked Netflix's global non-English Top 10. The company's aggressive local production push comes as Japan, long seen as slow to embrace the streaming era, begins to shift. With connected TV penetration widening and younger viewers migrating away from traditional broadcasters, the country has emerged as one of the most strategically vital — lucrative, accessible and still underdeveloped — premium video markets in Asia. Watch: 'Alice in Borderland' Season 3 gets teaser, Sept. premiere date
July 8 (UPI) -- Netflix is teasing Season 3 of Alice in Borderland, due for a Sept. 25 release. A trailer released Monday shows the characters getting lured back into the deadly games. The teaser opens with a close-up image of the Joker card, and then cuts to an apparent interview with Arisu, who is portrayed by Kento Yamazaki. "I feel like I dreamed about a journey," he says, without any recollection of the games of the sophomore season. Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) similarly is haunted by the violence of Season 2, despite her memory being wiped. "I see the same scene over and over," she says. "One day, Usagi, led by afterlife researcher Ryuji (Kento Kaku) suddenly vanishes," an official synopsis reads. Arisu must venture back to the Borderland to rescue her. The Japanese survival thriller series is based on the graphic novels by Haro Aso and stars Koji Ohkura, Risa Sudou, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Tina Tamashiro, Kotaro Daigo, Hyunri, Sakura Kiryu, Hayato Isomura, Ayaka Miyoshi and Katsuy Maiguma.

Netflix's 'Alice in Borderland' Season 3 Lands Sept Release And First Trailer
After three long years, fans are finally heading back to the Borderlands once more, as Netflix has set the premiere date for Season 3 of the hit Japanese live-action death game thriller Alice in Borderland , unveiling its first teaser trailer ahead of its release on 25 September 2025. Beware, spoilers for the first two seasons of Alice in Borderland ahead. Based on Haro Aso's 2015 manga of the same name, the third season will continue the story of Arisu (Kento Yamazaki, Kingdom ) and Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya, Rurouni Kenshin ) as they are drawn back into the dangerous limbo world known as the Borderland. After escaping death at the end of season two, the pair enjoy a seemingly peaceful married life, until a mysterious afterlife researcher, Ryuji (Kento Kaku, Like a Dragon: Yakuza ), abducts Usagi, forcing Arisu back into the Borderland to save her. The trailer also depicts the final uncleared card, the Joker, which will most likely play a central role in Season 3's plot. Glimpses of new death games were also shown, including ones involving fire arrows and deadly electrical currents, no doubt thrusting Arisu and Usagi, alongside other unfortunate souls, into the thick of an all-out battle for survival that promises to be much larger in scale than the first two seasons. Joining the returning cast of characters are Banda (Hayato Isomura), Ann (Ayaka Miyoshi) and Yaba (Katsuya Maiguma). Season 3 will also introduce a bunch of new faces, including Koji Ohkura, Risa Sudou, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Tina Tamashiro, Kotaro Daigo, Hyunri, Sakura Kiryu, Yugo Mikawa, Joey Iwanaga and Akana Ikeda. Season 3 will be directed once again by Shinsuke Sato, who also penned its script with Yasuko Kuramitsu. The creative team is rounded off by composer Yutaka Yamada, cinematographer Taro Kawazu, production designers Iwao Saito and Shin Nakayama, and VFX supervisor Atsushi Doi.
