Arsenal transfer news: Target date for Gunners to sign a striker, what's going on with Eberechi Eze and Rodrygo deals and which FIVE stars are set to leave
Arsenal's transfer business is underway - at last. The £5million arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea is their first incoming of the summer, under new sporting director Andrea Berta. But, of course, this won't be enough to finally get over the hump in the Premier League.

Revealed: The player who 'Arsenal's summer transfer plans hinge on' - with Gunners looking at THREE stars in his position if they can sell him
Arsenal 's summer activity will be partly shaped by whether they offload a particular first-team star, according to one transfer insider. The Gunners are looking to bring in around five new faces as they supercharge a fresh title bid after falling short again, Mail Sport has reported. Kepa Arrizabalaga became the first arrival on Tuesday as they activated his £5million release clause at Chelsea and handed him a three-year deal to challenge David Raya. But Mikel Arteta has insisted this will be a 'big summer' and further reinforcements are expected - not least after the departures of Jorginho, Thomas Partey, Kieran Tierney, Nuno Tavares, and Marquinhos. One position they could target to strengthen is the left wing, but that depends on the future of Gabriel Martinelli. 'They've always wanted to strengthen on the left wing, but they've got Gabriel Martinelli, a very fine player, there already,' David Ornstein told The Athletic FC Podcast. Mikel Arteta is looking to make around five signings but a number nine is the priority for him 'If he were to leave, then you can see them bringing in a top left-sided winger. If he's not to leave, then I don't think so. 'We've talked and reported on Rodrygo and Anthony Gordon - I think that's if Martinelli leaves. 'I don't necessarily think that's if he were to stay.' Martinelli's contract expires in 2027 after he agreed a four-and-a-half-year extension in February 2023. He has remained an integral part of Arteta's team year-on-year but he has come under criticism for a lack of end product. Mail Sport has reported how Arsenal are looking at three alternatives to Martinelli. Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao is the priority but his wages make it a difficult deal to do. AC Milan's Rafael Leao and Borussia Dortmund's English winger Jamie Gittens have been looked at, too Martinelli managed 10 goals and eight assists in 51 games last season - a respectable haul but one which leaves more to be desired. On the opposite flank, Bukayo Saka scored 14 and created 12 goals despite missing more than three months of the season with injuries. Meanwhile, breakout star Ethan Nwaneri only scored one goal fewer - in 14 fewer games. Fans have at times called for Martinelli to be given a chance to play down the middle, where he can threaten the heart of teams with his pace and trickery. That is likely a conversation which will reignite if he stays, particularly if Martin Odegaard continues to blow hot and cold. Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal are a 'world-class attackers' short of a robust Premier League title tilt. He said last season: 'I don't think it's a striker necessarily but I think it's an attacking player. For me, when you see this lad, Saka, on the right side and you see what they have on the left, it's like chalk and cheese. 'Now, Martinelli and Saka, a few years ago were almost at a similar level but Saka has jumped up to be one of the best players in European football in his position but Martinelli unfortunately hasn't joined them. 'I've always felt, last two years and even this year, the reason I've never gone for Arsenal is I feel they're a world class attacker short. When I think of the other teams that Chelsea have, that Liverpool have, that City have, I don't think they've got that quality.'

Kepa Arrizabalaga: Chelsea goalkeeper joins Gunners as David Raya back-up in £5m deal
Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in a deal worth £5million. Kepa, 30, signs a three-year contract and will replace Neto as David Raya's back-up after the Brazilian's loan spell ended. He will wear the no13 shirt. Advertisement LIVE BLOG! Follow all the latest news, rumours, gossip, and done deals The move marks the end of Kepa's seven-year spell on the books at Chelsea, where he became a Champions League, Europa League, and Club World Cup winner. His 2018 move from Athletic Club to Stamford Bridge, worth £72m, marked him the most expensive goalkeeper of all time. He fell out of favour in his final years with the Blues, spending loan spells with Real Madrid and Bournemouth. He kept nine clean sheets in 35 appearances for the Cherries last season. Kepa becomes the first formal Arsenal signing of the summer, though the Gunners are soon expected to confirm the arrivals of Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard. Mikel Arteta is also expected to add a striker, with Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres both of interest. Kepa joins a star-studded cast of players to have made the cross-London move from Chelsea to Arsenal, which includes the likes of Petr Cech, David Luiz, and Jorginho.

Arsenal add Eberechi Eze to transfer shortlist as Tottenham battle looms
In demand: Eberechi Eze is attracting interest from Arsenal and Tottenham after a fine season at Crystal Palace (Getty Images) Arsenal have added Eberechi Eze to their list of transfer targets, joining Tottenham in the race for the Crystal Palace star. Arsenal are tracking a number of versatile attackers this summer as they look to sign a wide player able to provide competition for Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, and Standard Sport understands that Eze has been added to the list. Advertisement As well as Eze, the Gunners' hierarchy are also tracking Rodrygo at Real Madrid and Newcastle's Anthony Gordon. Eze also remains of interest to long-time admirers Spurs, who have a close relationship with - and a number of key players signed to - Eze's agency, CAA Base. He could leave Crystal Palace this summer with his contract at Selhurst Park said to contain a £68million release clause, payable in three instalments. Eze, who turns 27 on Sunday, finished the season in superb form, following up his first international goal for England against Latvia in March by scoring nine times in Palace's last 13 games of the campaign, including the match-winner in the FA Cup final against Manchester City as the Eagles lifted their first-ever major trophy at Wembley. Advertisement Interest from Arsenal is pertinent given that Eze was part of their prestigious Hale End Academy until being released at the age of 13. Arsenal will announce the signing of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea in the coming days. The Gunners are paying £5m to sign the Spaniard from their London rivals. He will become their new second-choice goalkeeper after leaving the Blues, where he knew he was not part of the club's plans moving forward. There is also an agreement in place for Arsenal to sign Brentford captain Christian Norgaard for an initial £10m plus up to £5m in add-ons. The midfielder was keen to join Arsenal as soon as he heard of their interest and is set to undergo a medical. His arrival would follow the departure of Jorginho and anticipated exit of Thomas Partey as a free agent. Both operate in the same position as Norgaard.
