British Open: A bat invaded the NBC broadcast booth, hilariously sending Kevin Kisner and Dan Hicks into a panic
Kevin Kisner didn't hesitate to take cover on Friday afternoon inside the NBC broadcast booth. The PGA Tour star and "proud hunter" wanted absolutely nothing to do with an errant bat that found its way into their tower during the second round of the British Open on Friday at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. Kisner dove down under the table and whipped his jacket over his head in an apparent effort to just wait out the invasion. Kisner's broadcast partner, Dan Hicks, wasn't much help either. He just started waving his hands around frantically. Thankfully, Mike Tirico was there to describe the entire scene. "I'm telling you Mike ... just when you think you've seen it all," Hicks said after things had settled, adding that the bat did 20 laps around the tower they were sitting in. "I saw the feet up looking to land, I was ducking out," Kisner added. Honestly, it's hard to blame him. Kisner is on the call this week as part of his role as NBC's lead golf analyst, which he does while still competing on the PGA Tour. The four-time winner finished T8 at the ISCO Championship earlier this month, which actually marked his first made cut after missing nine straight and only his second of the season. While the duo aren't even to the midway point of the tournament, a bat making its way into the booth is about the last thing you'd expect while covering a major championship. Hopefully, the rest of the weekend is easier on them.

NBC blames headset for Smylie Kaufman's NSFW hot mic at The Open
The NBC broadcast team providing coverage of the 153rd Open Championship is having quite a Friday at Royal Portrush. First it was a wild bat invading the booth that sent Dan Hicks and Kevin Kisner ducking for cover. Then on-course reporter Smylie Kaufman apparently experienced some technical difficulties which led to him dropping an expletive on an unexpectedly hot mic. Give Kaufman a little bit of credit, though, he did utter the curse word in a hushed tone. Golf is nothing if not obsessed with etiquette, after all. Still many people watching the broadcast picked up on the error immediately. Warning: NSFW Language NBC's Mike Tirico came on the air a short while later to explain what happened. 'Earlier we had some technical issues with our microphones," Tirico said. "When you come over here, our on-course reporter, sometimes the headsets don't work the same way they do back home. Because of that, it led to some language getting through on the air that shouldn't have gotten through. So we just want take the time to apologize for that comment getting through back home.' The more you know, indeed.

Chaos at The Open as terrifying animal invades broadcast booth and forces PGA Tour star to take cover
Kevin Kisner was forced to take cover Friday when an unlikely creature swooped into the NBC broadcast studio during the second round of The Open Championship. An errant bat interrupted the coverage of Friday's round when it found somehow found its way into the booth leaving the PGA Tour star and co-commentator Dan Hicks in a state of panic. Despite Kisner being a 'proud hunter', the American player didn't hesitate to seek cover as he scrambled to avoid the terrifying creature at Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland. The 41-year-old slumped down in his chair, looking as if he were to take shelter under the desk, before settling for hiding under his blazer. His broadcast partner, Hicks, wasn't much help either as he flapped his arms around in an attempt to fend off the bat, flinching as it occasionally came too close. Their colleague, Mike Tirico, had a front row seat for the theatrics, which left him in a fit of laughter. 'I'm telling you Mike ... just when you think you've seen it all,' Hicks told Tirico, claiming that the bat did 20 laps around the tower they were sitting in. 'I saw the feet up looking to land, I was ducking out,' Kisner added. Kisner is on the call for NBC this week as the network's lead golf analyst - a role he juggles while still sporadically playing on the PGA Tour. The professional, whose career-best finish at The Open came in 2018 when he came tied-second, last played at the ISCO Championship earlier this month. He finished in a share of eighth place at the tournament, making his first made cut after missing nine consecutive. It was just his second made cut of the year. As the final major championship of the year hit the halfway mark, world No 1 Scottie Scheffler had stormed into the lead, sitting one shot ahead of Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick atop the leaderboard. China's Haotong Li, 2023 winner Brian Harman, Tyrell Hatton and Robert MacIntrye are also among the hunting pack who will look to chase down Scheffler on Saturday's moving day.

Broadcasters freak out as bat flies into booth at The Open Championship
While the players at The Open Championship battled in the rain during the second round of the major Friday, the announcers were battling a bat. A bat entered the NBC broadcast tower, and Dan Hicks and Kevin Kisner, the announcers in the booth, had very different, yet hilarious, reactions. As the bat entered the booth, both announcers took cover. But their reactions to the invading bat could not have been more different. Hicks started waving his hands wildly as if trying to scare the bat away. Hicks also laughed at the hysteria while waving his hands as the bat entered the tower. Kisner, on the other hand, slowly sunk into this chair and was nearly out of view of the camera. As he slid down in his seat, he pulled his sports coat off the back of the chair and pulled it over his head to protect himself from the bat. Mike Tirico, who narrated the replay that showed the chaos, ribbed Kisner for his reaction. "Kevin Kisner, this is a man who is a proud hunter. He's under his jacket. He is spooked by this bat," Tirico exclaimed. While Hicks and Kisner may have been bothered by the bat temporarily, they were at least under cover from the rain. Throughout the morning and afternoon, the weather has fluctuated from beautiful at times to downpours. At the time of this writing, Matt Fitzpatrick was leading the major championship at 9-under par.
