Shilpa Shetty accepts she is one of the biggest restaurateurs in the country with Bastian, owns more than 6 restaurants: ‘It is mind-blowing'

While Shilpa Shetty is best known for her work in the Hindi film industry, the actor has also created waves in the hospitality business with her much-talked-about restaurant chain, Bastian. In 2019, Shilpa partnered with restaurateur Ranjit Bindra, the founder of the Bastian brand, and is now the co-owner of multiple Bastian restaurants across the country, holding a 50 percent stake in the brand. In a recent interaction, Shilpa recalled how she ventured into the restaurant business, despite hospitality being her secondary career plan. 'Hospitality was my side hustle' Speaking on the YouTube channel Khaane Mein Kya Hai, she said, 'Hospitality was my Plan B but Plan A (acting) is also going good. But Plan B is mind-blowing.' Sharing how she stumbled upon the opportunity to invest in Bastian and become one of the 'biggest restaurateur in the country', she said, 'It just happened organically. It was a side hustle. Raj and I would go to Bastian in Bandra and we loved it as an eatery. Raj knew Ranjit Bindra. Ranjit was looking for an investor to expand and before we knew it, we invested in Bastian. We started with one Bastian and now we have six. We have them in Mumbai – Bandra, Dadar, Worli. We another restaurant Inka, which is a Peruvian-Asian restaurant, we have another one – Bondie. We have one restaurant in Pune and we are opening two in Goa. I think we have more than 6 restaurants.' How much Shilpa Shetty earns from Bastian restaurants? Bastian is one of the most popular restaurants in Mumbai, first launched in the city's Bandra locality before the owners expanded to multiple outlets under the same brand in Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, and Goa. Bastian is frequently visited by Bollywood celebrities, many of whom have shared posts on social media, raving about its food and breathtaking interiors. Actor Sonakshi Sinha and her husband Zaheer Iqbal even hosted their grand wedding reception at Bastian. According to reports, Shilpa Shetty's net worth is estimated to be more than $35 million, which is around Rs 134 crore. Some financial experts estimate that the actor earns Rs 4–5 crore every month from Bastian. Earlier, in an interview with Zoom, Shilpa had spoken about the revenue that Bastian earns. While she didn't disclose an exact number, she claimed that Bastian paid the highest GST in 2024 in the hospitality business. She said, 'They're all wrong and their numbers are totally wrong. We're making much more than that (laughs). Last time we paid the highest GST for the hospitality! My managers tell me they get more calls to book seats in Bastian than for my work.'

Jewel Thief Star Kunal Kapoor Reveals Why Aamir Khan Gave The Climax Scene Of Rang De Basanti To Siddharth

New Delhi: Kunal Kapoor is gearing up for the release of Jewel Thief, which will drop on Netflix tomorrow, April 25, 2025. He will be seen alongside Saif Ali Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Nikita Dutta. Recently in a conversation with the YouTube channel Khaane Mein Kya Hai, Kunal Kapoor went down the memory lane when he was asked about Rang De Basanti. The actor played the role of Aslam in the film alongside Aamir Khan, Siddharth, Sharman Joshi, R Madhavan, Atul Kulkarni, and Soha Ali Khan. Kunal revealed how the climax radio scene was a crucial point, and Aamir Khan thought about the greater good of the film and gave it to Siddharth. Kunal revealed that the scene where Siddharth goes inside and speaks on the radio on behalf of the whole gang, was initially supposed to have all of them. But Aamir suggested that only one of them should take over the scene. It was assumed that Aamir would be headlining it. However, he surprised everyone when he chose Siddharth to do it. Kunal mentioned, "Everyone assumed that it would be him. But he said, 'Who is the smartest guy in the group? Like who is the most well-spoken guy in the group? It's Siddharth. So let him take over the radio'." Recalling Aamir's generosity, Kunal revealed his logic behind the decision. Aamir believed, "If every character in the film works, the film works and if the film works, it's great for me." Rang De Basanti to date is considered one of Aamir Khan's best films.

‘Aamir Khan gave away the climax of Rang De Basanti to Siddharth,' says Kunal Kapoor: ‘Anyone else would have said I'm the hero but…'

The 2006 film Rang De Basanti starred Aamir Khan in one of the lead roles but the film was a true ensemble where every character had something significant to contribute to Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's world. The film also starred Kunal Kapoor, Siddharth, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, R Madhavan among others, and in a recent conversation, Kunal revealed that Aamir essentially 'gave away' the film's climax to Siddharth because he felt that instead of everyone taking over the radio station and talking, one guy should take the helm. Talking on the YouTube channel Khaane Mein Kya Hai, Kunal said, 'I remember when I was working with Aamir Khan on Rang De Basanti, he pretty much gave away the climax to Siddharth. The climax was supposed to be all of us going to the radio station and saying some words but Aamir said, 'Why doesn't just one person just go and speak on the radio and everybody else should be doing what they are doing'.' Kunal said that at this point, everyone assumed that Aamir would be the person who would do the talking but instead, he chose Siddharth to take the lead as it was more in sync with his character. 'Everyone assumed that it would be him. But he said, 'who is the smartest guy in the group? Like who is the most well spoken guy in the group? It's Siddharth. So let him take over the radio',' he recalled. Kunal praised Aamir's generosity and said that any other actor would have taken the opportunity for himself but Aamir thought of the greater good and did what was best for the film. 'Any other actor would have said ' Yaar main hero hun. Tum sab ab side pe ho jao. Main abhi jaake radio pe bolta hu. Tum log apna karte raho (I am the hero. All of you get aside. I will go and speak on the radio now, you do your thing) but he was… And his logic is 'If every character in the film works, the film works and if the film works, it's great for me',' he shared. The climax of Rang De Basanti showed Aamir and Siddharth's characters getting to radio station. Siddharth's character makes a public statement addressing the assassination of the Defence Minister, and eventually, they are both killed by the authorities.

Jaideep Ahlawat was sure he would be shot by cops in US after he was pulled over along with Kamal Haasan: ‘Rahul Bose asked them to hurry up'

Jaideep Ahlawat was fairly new in the entertainment industry when he got a chance to work with Kamal Haasan in the actor's directorial Vishwaroopam. In a recent interview, Jaideep recalled an incident from their shoot in the US when the country was on 'high alert' and he was surrounded by a bunch of cop cars while he was filming a scene with co-actor Rahul Bose. Jaideep said that he was actually scared when all of this went down in New York and was just praying that they don't shoot him. Jaideep appeared on the YouTube channel Khaane Mein Kya Hai and recalled that this was a few years after 9/11 but since this was right before Christmas, the authorities were on high alert. Jaideep shared that they were filming in a car on Brooklyn Bridge while driving across it, and Kamal wanted to finish the dialogue portion of the scene on the bridge itself. 'I was driving and Rahul Bose was sitting next to me. And the scene was just with the two of us,' he said and added that they were a convoy of three cars, with one car ahead of them that had all the permissions, and another car following them which had the monitor, the cinematographer and Kamal. 'So the plan was that we will drive slowly so we can finish the scene. We finished one trip on the bridge and Kamal sir felt that we could do one more take. So we had to come back on the bridge and it takes almost 30 minutes to come back on it. We came back and decided to drive even more slowly. The moment we reached the bridge, it was a full filmy scene. 8-10 cars suddenly appeared with sirens blasting. The cops came out and said, 'put your hands on the wheel'. Just before this Rahul had performed a scene where he was offering namaaz,' he recalled. Jaideep said that as he sat there, he actually started thinking that they might shoot him. 'I was sitting there and thinking 'please don't shoot me'. The cop's hand was on the holster. He asked me to roll down the windows which were all black. I was only thinking that 'please don't make them shoot, let them at least listen then we will see what happens next'. Someone told them that the first car has all the permission but by that time, I was completely out of it. I was so scared,' he said. Jaideep said that whilst all of this was going on, Rahul asked the cop, 'Please hurry up, I have a flight to catch.' Jaideep recalled his reaction to this and shared, 'was sitting there and thinking that you don't have to say this.' He shared that once all of this was done, he wondered that if he had gotten arrested with Kamal, the Indian media would have been all over it. 'When all of this got over, I was thinking, if we had gotten arrested then, it would have been all over Indian media that Jaideep Ahlawat and Kamal Haasan were arrested,' he remembered with a laugh. He shared that after all of this, Kamal asked them to give another take since they were already on the bridge. 'Kamal sir didn't say anything during all of this. He knew that the local guys will handle it better so he stayed out of it. So now, since we were on the bridge, and we had to cross it, he said 'let's do another take since we are on the bridge',' he said.
