Bahrain Joins Urgent Arab League Meeting in Istanbul to Discuss Regional Escalation

Bahrain took part in an emergency meeting of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, held in Istanbul to address the growing tensions in the region and the military escalation between Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Kingdom was represented by His Excellency Khalid Yousif Al Jalahma, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs. The meeting was convened at the request of Iraq and brought together Arab foreign ministers and the Secretary-General of the Arab League. At the conclusion of the session, a joint statement was issued stressing the urgent need to intensify regional and international efforts to de-escalate the conflict and push for a full ceasefire. The statement also called for a return to negotiations to reach a new agreement on Iran's nuclear program and to support all diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring calm. The ministers emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy—guided by international law and the United Nations Charter—remain the only effective path to resolving the region's crises. The statement rejected military solutions as a means to end the current conflict. The Arab League also reaffirmed the importance of protecting the freedom of navigation in international waterways, warning against the global economic impact of prolonged conflict, especially on energy supply routes. Additionally, the ministers highlighted the need to refrain from targeting nuclear facilities under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency, in line with relevant IAEA and UN Security Council resolutions.
