Hodek Vibration Technologies opens third plant in Karnataka
Hodek Vibration Technologies , a leading supplier of torsional vibration dampers (TVDs) for internal combustion engines, has inaugurated its third manufacturing facility in Dharwad, Karnataka, marking a significant milestone in the company's expansion and future-readiness strategy, media reports. The new plant, designed as a lean, green, and automation-ready facility, aligns with Industry 4.0 standards and reflects Hodek's commitment to innovation. 'This is not just about scaling capacity. It's a strategic leap to ensure we're equipped for the future,' said Executive Director Abhijeet Khanvilkar during the inauguration. Founded in 1976 in Pune by Prabhat Karkhanis, Hodek began its journey as a supplier of precision components to Cummins India. The company later collaborated with Holset UK in 1980 for technology transfer, enabling it to manufacture viscous and rubber-based dampers. Over the decades, Hodek has emerged as a key partner for top automakers including Tata Motors, Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, Daimler, Volvo Eicher, and Force Motors. Its products also serve sectors such as railways, marine, defense, industrial equipment, and power generation. Hodek's future plans With this new facility, Hodek now operates three manufacturing units — one in Pune and two in Dharwad — alongside a dedicated R&D center and a foundry. The company is targeting rapid growth in the domestic market and aims to triple its turnover from ₹300 crore to ₹1,000 crore in the next 4–5 years. 'India is like Europe — every state is a unique market. There's enormous opportunity right here without needing to depend on exports,' said Khanvilkar. However, the company is also stepping up its global presence. Currently exporting to 18 countries across five continents, Hodek derives 30per cent of its revenue from international markets, primarily North America and the UK. The goal is to increase export contribution to 50per cent over the next 2–3 years. As the auto industry evolves, Hodek is proactively adapting to the shift toward electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles. Hodek is also diversifying its product portfolio beyond TVDs. Leveraging its R&D strengths, the company is developing parts for electric vehicles and has introduced a new sun visor design aimed at improving driver comfort, which will be manufactured under its newly formed subsidiary, Hodek Innovations. In a further step toward diversification, the group has entered the digital space with the launch of Ispick , a rental app under the Hodek Edge brand. The app enables users to rent out idle household items, creating a new income stream from unused assets. Looking ahead, Khanvilkar confirmed plans for a public listing within the next 3–5 years.
