Kaizer Chiefs contact Patrick Mayo over son's availability
Kaizer Chiefs have made a direct approach to former Bafana Bafana star Patrick Mayo, enquiring about the potential availability of his son, Khanyisa Mayo. The elder Mayo revealed that the club reached out to him recently, but he stressed that any potential move does not rest in his hands. Chiefs spoke to me about my son, Mayo Senior said. But the decision lies with the club in Algeria and with Khanyisa himself. Khanyisa's agent, Basia Michaels of QT Sports, swiftly addressed the speculation by reaffirming the striker's commitment to his current club, CR Belouizdad. She confirmed that the player remains under contract and has no intention of leaving the Algerian side at this time. 'Khanyisa currently has two years left on his contract with CRB. He is currently in Algeria. He arrived on Sunday and they started training yesterday (Monday),' Michaels said. 'I have had no communication with Chiefs about Khanyisa. The only communication I had with Chiefs is communications of the past.' Michaels went on to clarify that there have been no transfer talks or offers regarding the former Cape Town City forward. 'At this present moment, this is not a thing. Why? Because Khanyisa has a contract at CRB. He's got two years left and he's happy to stay there. He wants to continue that journey. I've received no offers for Khanyisa because he had just signed a deal a year ago.' Despite the agent's dismissal, Chiefs continue to search for firepower up front as the transfer window edges closer to its end. Khanyisa Mayo remains one of the names reportedly under consideration. But any real movement would depend on CR Belouizdad's stance and the player's own interest in a return to the Premiership. Should Mayo leave Algeria for Kaizer Chiefs? 'Yes, Kaizer Chiefs called me regarding my son'
Kaizer Chiefs legend Patrick Mayo has revealed that his former club reached out to him about the possibility of his son, Khanyiso Mayo, joining the team. The 26-year-old forward was heavily linked to Amakhosi last season, but the Algerian side CR Belouizdad managed to secure the signing of the Bafana Bafana striker. In an exclusive interview with Kick-Off , Mayo Sr. shared that he had a conversation with Kaizer Chiefs regarding his son. 'Yes, Kaizer Chiefs called me last week to find out if I would give Khanyisa my blessing to join the club,' said the former Bucks Bucks star. 'It is Khanyisa who will decide whether he wants to join them. 'I told Chiefs I would be happy to see Khanyisa at the club because that would be a historic moment. He would be following in his father's footsteps, and that would make me a proud father. 'But I did make it clear to Chiefs that if they are genuinely interested, they should speak to his current club and buy him, as his contract runs until the end of the 2026/27 season,' he said. Mayo said if Amakhosi succeeded in signing Khanyiso, he should be given the number 21 jersey. 'I told Chiefs that they should assign him my jersey number 21 when he arrives at the club, not jersey number 10. 'They informed me they would get back to me with an update, so I'm still waiting for a response from Chiefs,' said the former PSL defender/striker. Chiefs have signed Flavio Silva as the only striker and will no doubt need another forward if they are to compete for top honours.
