Georgia, Kirby Smart Handed Disappointing Recruiting News on Thursday
Georgia, Kirby Smart Handed Disappointing Recruiting News on Thursday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When it comes to their 2027 recruiting class, the Georgia Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart have quickly gotten to work, having already landed two commitments, with the biggest being four-star cornerback Donte Wright. Advertisement They have several talented players on their radar, including quarterback Kharim Hughley out of Gainesville, Georgia, whom they have already hosted for a total of four unofficial visits. That's a lot of work to put in for a player who still has two more years of high school left, and unfortunately for the Bulldogs, on Thursday, Hughley chose the Clemson Tigers instead, per On3's Hayes Fawcett. Not coming out on top in this battle will certainly sting, as On3 Industry Rankings place him as a four-star recruit, the No. 15 quarterback, the No. 26 player in Georgia and the No. 190 player in the nation. Advertisement Last year, in his first season at the varsity level for Gainesville High School, Hughley put up some impressive numbers, completing 140-of-232 passes for 2,543 yards, 22 touchdowns, two interceptions and a 126.1 quarterback rating. Georgia was not the only team Clemson was going up against, either, as Hughley's also taken visits with Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Auburn and Florida State. CLEMSON — Clemson football and coach Dabo Swinney added their second player in the 2027 recruiting class with the commitment of four-star quarterback Kharim Hughley. The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder from Gainesville High School in Georgia is rated the No. 27 player in the state and the No. 14 quarterback nationally by the 247Sports Composite rankings. Hughley committed July 10 after announcing he received an offer from Clemson on July 5. Advertisement In his sophomore season, Hughley had 2,543 yards passing for 22 touchdowns and two interceptions and rushed for 108 yards for three touchdowns, according to MaxPreps. He helped his team post a 7-4 record to make the state playoffs. He attended the same high school as former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson. Clemson's 2027 class has two recruits and is No. 10 nationally. Hughley is Clemson's first offensive player to commit to Clemson this cycle. He joins four-star linebacker Max Brown, who is the younger brother of Clemson linebacker Sammy Brown, as the class's only members. Both are attending schools in Georgia. Clemson hits big landing 4-star 2027 quarterback Kharim Hughley commits to Clemson
Clemson football just landed one of its first building blocks for the 2027 class in four-star quarterback Kharim Hughley out of Gainesville, Georgia. Hughley announced his commitment to Clemson Thursday morning, just days after picking up an offer during Dabo Swinney's high school camp — his first visit to campus. The Gainesville standout, who shares an alma mater with Clemson legend Deshaun Watson, is rated as high as the No. 92 overall prospect and the No. 4 dual-threat QB in the class (ESPN). He's already built a strong connection with quarterbacks coach Tajh Boyd and offensive coordinator Garrett Riley. 'It's been really good to be able to talk to both Coach Boyd from a player's perspective, if that makes sense,' Hughley told Tigernet. 'He played there, he recruited another famous quarterback out of my school, so I just kind of got a little bit of a connection there. And then Coach Riley, obviously he's the coach, OC, he's a really good coach. I like the way he coaches, and he's not self-centered, if that makes sense. He's willing to learn from everybody else that's around him, if that makes sense. And I really like that about him. As a sophomore, Hughley passed for 2,543 yards with 22 touchdowns to just two interceptions, adding three scores on the ground. He joins four-star linebacker Sam Brown as Clemson's second commitment for the 2027 cycle.
