KL, Terengganu artists selected for Khazanah associate artist residency 2025 in London

The selected participants for KAAR 2025 are Lee Mok Yee, a multidisciplinary artist based in Kuala Lumpur and Amar Shahid Salehudin from Terengganu. Lee, 37, who was selected after applying for the third time, said he was excited to be chosen from among 47 applicants, and is now planning how best to utilise the three-month programme in London. "I think it is a great opportunity for me to engage with the communities in London, and also to access larger and international platforms. "When I return to Malaysia, I hope to share my experience and engage in more discussions with fellow artists - to reflect on my journey and explore potential collaborations,' he said after the KAAR 2025 Award Ceremony here Tuesday (July 29). Meanwhile, Amar Shahid, 39, said he was looking forward to possible collaborations or learning opportunities at major London museums, such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, which has a very good photography department, and a focus on conservation, areas that align with his current exploration of batik and practical photography. "I feel like it is the right time for me to start exploring outside, to expand my practice, learn more, and grow further," he said. KAAR, alongside the Khazanah Wolfson Press Fellowship (KWPF) and the Khazanah Sustainability Leadership pilot programme, aims to equip Malaysian talents with the knowledge, skills and networks to contribute meaningfully to society and the economy. It aligns with Khazanah's Advancing Malaysia strategy and the Malaysia Investment Strategy framework - A Nation That Creates - which drives socio-economic outcomes to uplift communities, build capacity, and strengthen national resilience. "Being there, you will learn a great deal and grow as an artist. What we find exciting is that when you return and continue to grow, the entire community grows with you. During their time at Acme's Fire Station Residency, Khazanah said the artists will participate in mentorship sessions, workshops and peer collaborations, while engaging with the broader London art scene. "Their residency also coincides with Frieze Week, offering critical exposure to the global arts community. Khazanah to consider RM2bil bond sale
The underlying assets for the dollar bonds haven't yet been decided. KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional Bhd is weighing raising US$500mil (RM2.1bil) from an exchangeable US dollar bond sale to help fund its overseas investments, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Khazanah is working with financial advisers on the planned offering, said the people, asking not to be identified as the process is private. The underlying assets for the dollar bonds haven't yet been decided but could include shares that Khazanah owns in state-owned electricity firm Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) or CIMB Group Holdings Bhd , the people said. Considerations are ongoing and Khazanah could opt not to proceed with the bond sale, the people said. Khazanah cancelled a block of as much as US$305mil in TNB shares earlier this month due to an adverse tax ruling against TNB, the people said. Khazanah owns about 21% of Tenaga, 20% of TM and around 21% of CIMB, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Khazanah eyes AI deals with French, Italian funds

KUALA LUMPUR: Khazanah Nasional Bhd has held a series of productive meetings with the French and Italian sovereign wealth funds to explore cross-border collaboration, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Managing director Datuk Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir said the discussions focused on how Malaysian, French and Italian companies could work together amid shifting global geopolitical dynamics. 'We looked at how we can collaborate (with them) when it comes to technology innovation, and even some of the mid-tier companies that they have and we have, and see how we can collaborate further. 'We realised that we were facing the same issues: how do we look at being globally competitive using AI and innovation, and how can we find new markets,' he told reporters in Brazil at the conclusion of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visits to Italy, France and Brazil. Khazanah was part of the Malaysian delegation on the official visits, which began on July 1 and were aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and boosting trade and economic cooperation. Other major Malaysian participants included Petroliam Nasional Bhd, Tenaga Nasional Bhd , Malayan Banking Bhd , FGV Holdings Bhd and YTL Power International Bhd . Amirul Feisal said Khazanah has partnered with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, Italy's national promotional institution, for two years, and with Bpifrance, also known as Banque Publique d'Investissement, for three years. The visits to Rome, Paris and Rio de Janeiro were also part of efforts to reinforce diplomatic and commercial ties with key economic partners. Collectively, bilateral trade with Italy, France and Brazil amounted to RM50.91bil last year. Khazanah posted its highest-ever annual return in 2024, achieving a net asset value time-weighted rate of return of 24.6%, a sharp increase from 5.7% the year before.
