50-Year-Old Woman Dies As Speeding Car Hits Her Near Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Driver Surrenders
The police did not recover any ID or phone from the woman, prompting them to believe that she may have been homeless. A 50-year-old woman died after being hit by a speeding car near the Bandra-Worli Sea Link toll plaza, the police said. The incident took place at around 10 pm on Sunday when the accused, Gurwindersingh Kheer – a 48-year-old resident of Santa Cruz – was returning home that night. Kheer, who runs a stone crusher plant business, surrendered himself to the authorities after the incident. He was tested and found to be sober; however, his car was impounded by the authorities. Soon after the accident, the toll plaza staff rushed the woman to Bhabha Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment, officials said. She did not have any ID or phone, prompting the police to believe that she may have been homeless. The cops are attempting to ascertain her identity and inform her family about the incident. Police have registered an FIR under various sections—BNS 106(1) for causing death by negligence, BNS 125 for endangering life, BNS 281 for rash driving, and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act for dangerous driving. Woman Dies After Being Hit By Car Near Bandra Worli Sea Link
Mumbai: A 50-year-old woman died after being hit by a speeding car near the Bandra Worli Sea Link on Sunday. Bandra police reported that Gurwindersingh Kheer, a 48-year-old resident of Santa Cruz involved in the stone crusher plant business, surrendered himself to the authorities following the incident. The accident occurred at 10 pm when Kheer was returning home. The unidentified woman was crossing the road when she was hit by the speeding car. "Kheer was not drunk at the time of incident. He came to the police station and informed about the accident. His car has been seized and he has undergone medical examination for alcohol test," a police officer from the Bandra police station stated. Police constable Amol Navadkar, 35, who was on night duty with two others, responded to the scene after receiving information from the police control room about an accident near the BWSL. The team arrived at 10.30 pm and found that the woman, seriously injured, was transported to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra West by ambulance after a passing motorist and the toll plaza staff contacted emergency services. "The woman died while undergoing treatment," the police added. Kheer was charged under BNS Sections 106 (1) (death by negligence), 125 (endangering life), 281 (rash driving), and under the Motor Vehicle Act Section 184 (dangerous driving). He was served a notice and permitted to leave.
