BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal was re-elected as president of the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI), while Upkar Singh Virk became the new secretary during the governing body's meeting on Wednesday. The election was supervised by Kamini Lau, a retired district judge. Govind Sharma of the Maharashtra Kho Kho Association was elected treasurer. Virk from the Punjab Kho Kho Association, who previously served as joint secretary, and Sharma, who was an executive member, were part of the last governing body. Additionally, there are four joint secretaries: A Nelson Samuel (Tamil Nadu Game Kho Kho Association), L R Verma (Himachal Pradesh Kho Kho Association), Sanjay Yadav (Madhya Pradesh Amateur Kho Kho Association), and Sunil K Naik (All Goa Kho Kho Association). Speaking after the results were announced, Mittal said it was an honour to once again lead the Kho Kho Federation of India. He mentioned the efforts made over the past few years to enhance the sport's national and international profile and expressed that the renewed mandate would help accelerate the vision for Kho Kho's global recognition and institutional growth. Mittal, a former BJP Member of Parliament, emphasised that indigenous sports like Kho Kho should be included in multi-sport events such as the Asian Games and the Olympics. He noted that 58 countries currently play Kho Kho and the goal is to expand to 90 nations this year, after which they will present their case to the International Olympic Committee. He expressed confidence that Kho Kho would be part of the Asian Games in 2030 and the Olympics in 2032, and committed to leaving no stone unturned to achieve this goal. After that, we will take up our case with the International Olympic Committee," said Mittal, who is also the president of the International Kho Kho Federation. India powers global festivities as World celebrates International Kho Kho day
New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): India spearheaded the festivities in the global observance of International Kho Kho Day, with celebrations highlighting the sport's heritage and growing international footprint. The day began with a high-energy rally at New Delhi's historic Jantar Mantar, where hundreds of players, coaches, and students marched together, led by officials from the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI). The event set the tone for a day dedicated to showcasing Kho Kho's transformation from a traditional Indian sport to a fast-growing global movement. Organised by the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI), the celebrations also included a lively magic show and a quiz competition focused on the history, rules, and evolution of the sport. These events brought the community together in a festive spirit while also raising awareness about Kho Kho's growing international momentum. National Kho Kho Day was also observed as part of the festivities, with the state federations doing a variety of activities in their respective states. Speaking on the occasion, Sudhanshu Mittal, President of KKFI and President of the International Kho Kho Federation (IKKF), said, 'I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the entire Kho Kho family. Over the past few years, Kho Kho has emerged as a symbol of pride and identity for our nation. Kho Kho has now gained global recognition, and it is being played in 56 countries, which is a matter of immense pride for all of us. Even more significant is that local citizens of these countries are actively playing the sport. We are committed to seeing Kho Kho included in the 2030 Asian Games and aiming for its presence in the 2032 Olympic Games as well. KKFI empowers Kho Kho's global growth with intensive training program for coaches, officials
Gurugram (Haryana)[India], June 3 (ANI): In a significant move to empower Kho Kho's global growth and enhance its scientific and technical foundation, the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI), under the aegis of the International Kho Kho Federation (IKKF), is conducting an Advanced Level III-A Training Course for coaches and technical officials from around the world. The course commenced on June 2 at the Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tercentenary (SGT) University, Budhera, and will continue till June 15. This intensive program brings together nearly 20 international coaches and officials representing Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran, Australia, England, Korea, and Malaysia, alongside 50 coaches and 65 technical officials from across India. The training sessions for coaches are scheduled from June 2 to June 11, followed by the sessions for technical officials from June 12 to June 15. The Advanced Level III-A Training course has been designed to address both technical excellence and holistic development in the sport. Over two weeks, participants will engage with a wide range of subjects including biomechanics and movement analysis, autogenic training for recovery, introduction of sports science in Kho Kho, awareness about doping in sports, sports psychology, scientific gazettes in sport, and the latest rules and regulations set by IKKF. In some of the major sessions during this course period, participants will explore key components shaping the modern game on Thursday (June 5), such as Sports Science in Kho Kho by Pooja Bhati, Awareness about Doping in Sports by Vikas Tyagi and Anurag and Training of Attackers by renowned coach HV Nataraj. The day will also feature an early morning physical fitness session led by Ashwani Sharma. Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Sudhanshu Mittal, President, Kho Kho Federation of India said, 'This course reflects our commitment to preparing a new generation of coaches and technical officials who are equipped with the knowledge, tools, and international exposure to take Kho Kho to the next level in the global stage. As the sport integrates science and technology in all dimensions--from mat-based play to the Decision Review System--developing human capital is key to sustaining its global growth.' The Advanced Level III-A Training Course for coaches will conclude on June 11 with a practical examination followed by a closing session, reflecting on the two-week training and highlighting key takeaways for coaches before the technical officials' segment begins. Over the past few years, Kho Kho has evolved from a traditional Indian sport into a fast-paced, professionally managed discipline. Adopting advanced playing infrastructure, introducing the 'Wazir' role to enhance dynamism, and integrating sports science and data-driven coaching have elevated the sport's appeal on the international stage. This course serves as a crucial step in aligning coaching and officiating standards with the sport's modern format and global aspirations. The Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) is hosting an advanced coaches and technical officials course for the international fraternity at the Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tercentenary University, Budhera, for a fortnight. The course, scheduled till June 15, caters to about 50 coaches and 65 officials in the country, apart from about 20 coaches and officials from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran, Australia, England, Korea and Malaysia. 'It is our commitment to prepare a new generation of coaches and technical officials equipped with the tools and knowledge to take kho kho to the next level globally. As the sport integrates science and technology in all dimensions, from mat-based play to the Decision Review System, developing human capital is key to sustaining its global growth,' said the president of KKFI, Sudhanshu Mittal.
