Pahalaj Nihalani Slams Ektaa Kapoor, Says ‘She Gets Women Married Thrice'

Last Updated: Pahalaj Nihalani is known for directing films like Khushboo, Dil Ter Diwana, Shola aur Shabnam, Aankhen, Andaz and Paap Ki Duniya. Veteran filmmaker and former CBFC chief Pahalaj Nihalani lashed out at producer Ektaa Kapoor. He accused her of causing the loss of traditional Indian culture through her television content. Speaking on the YouTube channel Learn From The Legend, the filmmaker shared his concerns about the changing face of the Indian entertainment sector and called Ektaa Kapoor's TV serials 'regressive and culturally confusing.' 'We, as an audience, are given stories about a woman getting married three times. Ektaa Kapoor, the great. Here, guys are not allowed to marry twice, and she marries these women three times! So the culture is slowly being destroyed and shifted," Nihalani said. Furthermore, he criticised the over-sexualisation of content and said 'Previously, there were relatively few sensual films released, and now there is sex even in the air." In addition, Nihalani showered praises on films like RRR and Kalki 2898 AD for their depiction of Indian culture. He shared, 'Take RRR, which was based on Ramayana and Mahabharata, and then in Kalki, the end was completely inspired by Mahabharata. Hindustani culture is still so strong in our society." Ektaa Kapoor is known for producing adult content like Gandii Baat and Ragini MMS among others through her OTT platform Alt Balaji, now ALTT. Moreover, Nihalani also recalled a moment from the making of the 2003 film Talaash: The Hunt Begins, in which Akshay Kumar insisted on Kareena Kapoor playing the female protagonist. Nihalani noted that casting decisions used to be solely the responsibility of producers and directors, with actors rarely involved. He said, 'Previously, producers and directors did the casting, and actors did not intervene. Akshay, who starred in Talash in 2002, was the first actor to meddle with my casting. He assured me that 'we can start the movie tomorrow, and you can give me whatever amount you want, but the heroine of this film will be Kareena Kapoor.' It was one of the most expensive films of its time, costing Rs 22 crore. This was the first time in my career that an actor required a certain cast." Nihalani is known for directing films like Khushboo, Dil Ter Diwana, Shola aur Shabnam, Aankhen, Andaz and Paap Ki Duniya. First Published: July 05, 2025, 16:01 IST

Indian part of Cambodia ‘digital arrest' call centre held at IGIA

Gurgaon: Chasing money trail after a cyber fraud was reported in the city, city cops last week took into custody a 24-year-old woman from Delhi's IGI airport on the suspicion that she was allegedly part of a Cambodia-based gang that targeted Indians with 'digital arrests'. Khushboo, police said, belongs to Surat in Gujarat and told cops that she was working at a call centre owned by Chinese citizens in an area called Mango Park in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. At the call centre, staffers were allegedly taught to pose as police, CBI and customs officials to threaten online users and extort. Then, impersonators posing as CBI officers appear on video calls, claiming to 'digitally arrest' the person. Finally, scammers pretending to be income tax or customs officials extort money under the guise of investigation clearance," said Priyanshu Dewan, ACP (cyber). The ACP was leading the investigation into the Cambodia-based operations after an 81-year-old Gurgaon resident filed a complaint that she was cheated of Rs 2.9 crore in Dec 2024. The complainant said a caller claimed her Aadhaar card was linked to hawala transactions. Cyber cons then forced her to stay on a video call — or "digital arrest" — for three days while another person posing as a CBI officer coerced her into transferring money to avoid arrest. Based on this complaint, an FIR was registered at the Cyber East police station in the city under sections 318(4) (cheating), 336(3) (forgery), 348 (making or possession of any instrument for counterfeiting a property mark) and 340 (forged document) of BNS. Khushboo, investigators said, is the 16th accused to be arrested in the case. Cops arrested her from the Delhi airport on June 28 after getting a tip-off that she was flying back to India. During questioning, Khushboo told police she initially went to Dubai in search of a job in Nov 2023. From there, her friend's husband took her to Cambodia in Aug 2024. She joined the call centre and was paid 700$ (approximately Rs 60,000) to carry out cyber frauds. "Khushboo was assigned to the first team, which initiated contact with targets and instilled fear by mentioning criminal charges," said inspector Amit Sharma, in charge of the Cyber East police station. The 24-year-old said her colleagues at the Mango Park call centre were Indians, and there were several other call centres like theirs across the southeast Asian country. The amount that the gang amassed from cybercrimes was allegedly funneled through a network of fake accounts, police said. Cops traced one account, in which Rs 39 lakh was transferred, owned by another Indian citizen, Surendra. He allegedly gave access to the account to cyber cons in return for Rs 5 lakh. Police said the investigation in the case is ongoing.

Gurgaon police arrest Gujarat woman linked to Cambodia-based cyber fraud syndicate

The Gurgaon police Sunday arrested a 24-year-old resident of Surat in Gujarat at the Delhi airport for her alleged involvement in a cyber fraud racket operating from a call centre in Cambodia. Khushboo was arrested in connection with a 'digital arrest' case, where fraudsters posed as police, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and Customs officers to extort money by threatening victims with fake charges of illegal activities. A Gurgaon police spokesperson said the woman will be produced in a court Monday for police remand. Two mobile phones used in the cyber fraud were recovered from her possession, the spokesperson added. The case stems from a complaint lodged on December 4, 2024, at the Cyber Crime (East) Police Station in Gurgaon. The complainant reported that her son received a call claiming his Aadhaar card was linked to hawala transactions. When he denied the allegations, the fraudsters, posing as police officers, threatened to register a First Information Report (FIR). A fake CBI officer then contacted the victim via video call, claiming he was under 'digital arrest', and coerced him into transferring money under the pretext of resolving the fabricated hawala case. The police registered a case under the relevant sections based on the complaint. The investigation, led by Priyanshu Diwan, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime), and Inspector Amit Sharma, revealed that Khushboo was part of a Cambodia-based call centre, Mango Park, in Phnom Penh, involved in 'digital arrest' cases. The syndicate operated in three stages — the victims were intimidated with claims of their mobile numbers or Aadhaar cards being misused, fraudsters then posed as police officers to enforce a 'digital arrest', and impersonated Customs or Income Tax Department officials to extort money through bank transfers. The police investigations also showed Khushboo intimidated victims, and was paid a monthly salary of $700 for her role. The call centre, reportedly run by individuals of Chinese origin, employed people from India and other countries to execute these frauds. Similar call centres operate across Phnom Penh and other parts of Cambodia, the police said. The probe uncovered that Rs 39 lakh collected through the fraud was transferred to a bank account belonging to a man called Surendra, who sold the account to another accused, Mitesh, for Rs 5 lakh. Acting on instructions from his brother Bhargav in Dubai, Mitesh sold the account to Khushboo. She had travelled to Dubai in November 2023 for a job through a friend's husband, and later moved to Cambodia in August 2024 to work at the Mango Park call centre. So far, 16 people, including Khushboo, have been arrested in connection with the case, the Gurgaon police said, and further investigation is ongoing.

Well-rounded diet for older adults: 5 nutrients that improve muscle strength, gut balance and overall health

Older adults may require a well-rounded diet that covers all the nutritional requirements of old age. As the body undergoes natural changes due to ageing, like muscle loss, slower metabolism, and reduced bone density, it becomes crucial to prioritise foods that support health in a holistic manner, taking care of all the key functions of health, from cognition to metabolism. Older adults require well-rounded nutrition to stay healthy.(Shutterstock) Khushboo Jain Tibrewala, SME & Advisor - Nutrition, Meru Life, shared with HT Lifestyle the vital nutrients required to help older adults stay healthy, targeting all the essential pillars of ageing, from bone health, gut balance, to cognitive health and muscle strength. She said, 'For most active seniors, the focus shouldn't be on restriction, but on nourishment that supports strength, cognition, and metabolic health. A well-balanced Indian diet, when thoughtfully planned, can help maintain energy, mobility, and clarity for years to come.' Khushboo shared a guide, listing out the important nutrients and their food sources that can help older adults maintain strength, mobility, and overall well-being: 1. Prioritise protein at every meal With age, muscle loss happens. Including two protein sources per meal, dal with curd, eggs with vegetables, or a paneer salad, helps support strength, blood sugar control, and immune function. 2. Support bone and joint health Calcium and Vitamin D are important, but so are magnesium and Vitamin K2. These nutrients help bones stay strong and reduce the risk of stiffness or injury. Add Ragi, Til, leafy greens, fermented foods, and natural fats like Ghee and Mustard oil to your diet. Leafy greens should be added to the diet to support bone and joint health.(Shutterstock) 3. Gut-healthy foods A diverse gut microbiome supports digestion, immunity, and even mood. Simple meals with cooked vegetables, lightly spiced dals, curd, seasonal fruits, and the occasional kanji or pickle can go a long way in keeping digestion smooth. 4. Protect cognitive health with brain-friendly foods Fatigue, forgetfulness, and brain fog are not just part of ageing; they're often signs of poor blood sugar control or missing nutrients. Add good fats (nuts, seeds), colourful vegetables, turmeric, and herbs like curry leaves or brahmi to meals. Stay hydrated and avoid long gaps between meals. 5. Support metabolic health with fibre-rich foods Even active seniors may have early insulin resistance. Regular, balanced meals, good-quality fibre, and moving after meals can help maintain metabolic stability.
