Kia Syros long term review

Model: Kia Syros HTX+(O)Test Started: May 2025/2,053kmTenure/Target mileage: 6 months/10,000kmMileage this month: NAEfficiency this month: NAMy tryst with diesels has been informative, and spending six months with the Tata Nexon diesel made me gain immense love for what has become in today's day and age, the cruder fuel, if one looks at the market. But some automakers have not given up, god bless them, Kia being one of them, they offer diesel powertrains in all of their internal combustion engined models, and the latest one, the Syros has driven into our fleet, in its top spec HTX Plus (O) AT trim. And while discussions about the Syros will begin with the looks, I am gonna talk about my first impressions of the cabin first. I absolutely love the Syros' dashboardlayout which focuses on maximised space, and a slick designaesthetic. advertisement Unlike what we expected, the Syros is based on the same platform as the Hyundai Exter and Aura, and not the Kia Sonet/Hyundai Venue platform, and this means that the Korean automaker's second sub4m offering is distinctly different to the Sonet. And this difference is immediately apparent the moment one steps inside, the sheer maximisation of space is comparable to electric vehicles. The expansive dash layout is neat, and layered which works well with the storage shelf on the left side and the triple display panel, including the instrumentation, infotainment and the climate control panel. But where the Syros wins out are the seats, and the incredible amount of headroom and shoulder room that each occupant enjoys. The driver's seat is power adjustable, while all four seats get ventilation. The 12.3-inch instrument panel is slick, and the graphics are fresh for Kia. Our long term Syros starts its tenure wish just over 2,000km on the odo. advertisementFrom the time I have spent in the driver's seat, my opinions are mostly positive, but the Syros has not been made for driving pleasure, the steering has a slightly squared off shape, and is really smooth and light, but lacks accuracy, hence is quite comfortable to use in the city, but fun isn't something it translates very well. Even the seating position, with all the adjustability, feels right only in a more laid back setting. The SUV's ride is brilliant, but undulations that are sharper do filter in, and taking corners and curves is a task that has to be done with care. Through the course of the next six months, we are going to tell you how Kia's smartest offering for the Indian market 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder dieselPower: 115bhpTorque: 250NmTransmission: 6-speed torque converterDimensions (LxWxH): 3,995x1,805x1,680mmWheelbase: 2,550mmEx-showroom price: 17.80 lakhSubscribe to Auto Today Magazine
