East Kilbride v Dunfermline: Mick Kennedy says top opposition friendlies will serve side well for League Cup

The League Two side will face the Pars on Saturday before facing Hearts behind closed doors East Kilbride players started their pre-season training this past week and Mick Kennedy's men will be thrown straight into a tough test this weekend. The Lowland League champions and newly-promoted League Two side welcome Neil Lennon's Dunfermline Athletic to K-Park for their first pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon, ahead of a clash behind closed doors against Premiership side Hearts. ‌ Kilby are being thrown in at the deep end, but Kennedy insists it is required ahead opening competitive action at home to championship side St Johnstone on July 12 in the Premier Sports League Cup. ‌ On Saturday's test, which is a 3pm kick-off, the Kilby gaffer said: 'It will be the first pre-season friendly for both of us so it will be interesting. I believe Dunfermline have been away for a warm weather training camp so I am sure they will be well-prepared. 'To be fair to our boys, they've come back in great shape so it will be a good test. It is about trying to bed the new boys in, in terms of our philosophy because it will be different to what they are used to. 'Dunfermline and Hearts are difficult games to bed them in, to be honest, but it is a good environment for them to test themselves. ‌ 'Neil is trying to build a new team and at the early stages of rebuilding so we'll be interested to see what kind of team he plays. I imagine what team he plays on Saturday and what team starts the season for them will be very different. 'A full-time and Championship club coming here is a great test. We wanted to play against top opposition to prepare us for the League Cup. 'The Hearts game has been sorted, but it is behind closed doors so there will be no fans. That game will be a tough one for the boys.'

East Kilbride defender aims to repeat his Stirling Albion feat as Kilby prepare for SPFL debut

Kilby ace Jordan McGregor was part of the Binos team who won League Two East Kilbride defender Jordan McGregor knows what it takes to win League Two after his triumph with Stirling Albion two years ago and believes he can repeat the feat with Kilby this season. The 28-year-old will come up against his old side in the fourth tier this term and ‌ Former Hibs kid McGregor was part of the title-winning Binos team in 2022/23 - along with current EK team-mate Jack Leitch - and says the Kilby team is showing all the hallmarks of the Stirling side that tasted glory. ‌ He said: 'It is a great group of boys at EK and everyone gets on so well. 'I noticed that at Stirling when we won the league. We all got on really well, even though we were different kinds of personalities. 'I have been in changing rooms where some people just didn't fit. I can get on with anybody, regardless if they are a good guy or a bad guy, but when you get guys who all just want to achieve the same thing whether they are a sub or a regular, that is half the battle. 'If you have players who are all about themselves, it never works out, but we all want to win for each other. 'It looks like pretty much the starting 11 from last season will be there for this season and that is massive. ‌ 'I think a lot of teams will underestimate us and think we aren't good enough, but I think we are capable of winning the league. 'There's a lot of boys in the EK team who are good enough to play in the Championship so we'll see how far we go. 'When I was at Stirling, Jack Leitch and I both won the league by like 10 points or something. ‌ 'I won the league once and then we got promoted as well in my five years. In the first six months of League One, we were really good. We started the season really well and beat St Johnstone 4-0 in the League Cup, but after Christmas everything just went wrong for us. 'But I know what it takes to play in League Two and win it. 'It took me a few attempts to get it done, but I know what you need to do to get promoted. 'You need to dig in deep and win the big games when it matters.'

Motherwell ace to join East Kilbride on loan as boss talks up new defender Erik Šula

Kilby have added to their squad and expect further additions this week East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy has added some physicality to the Kilby defence after the signing of 6ft 4" former Stirling Albion man Erik Šula - and says Motherwell goalkeeper Matty Connelly is also on his way. The newly-promoted League Two side secured the 30-year-old Slovakian on Saturday and Kennedy expects more to come through the door at K-Park this week, including Connelly on loan from Motherwell following a successful spell at the club last season. ‌ Šula has experience at fellow League Two rivals Clyde as well as the Binos, so Kennedy believes he is a perfect addition. ‌ He said: 'Erik knows the league very well, he is aggressive, he's 6ft 4 and athletic. He is somebody we actually tried to sign in January. 'He is a very good footballer but he's maybe not been in an environment before where he's been able to show that. The age he is at just now, his profile, his experience in the leagues mean he will be a great addition. 'Erik will fit into the structure really well and we are delighted to get it done.' On further additions ahead of Saturday's first pre-season friendly with Dunfermline, Kennedy added: 'There should be another three across the line this week. There will be a couple of goalkeepers, another forward and then maybe another central midfielder. 'After that, it could be us done. We are potentially speaking to one more but that is probably a bit more complicated. ‌ 'The two goalkeepers will be done this week but Matty is going away with his parent club on a tour [to the Netherlands]. 'The forward will be announced soon, we are just awaiting international clearance.' ‌ Kilby returned for pre-season training this week and also learned their fixtures for their first season in the SPFL. Kennedy's men will play host to former Lowland League sparring partners Spartans on the opening day on Saturday, August 2 and he said: 'We are looking forward to it. Spartans have had a similar journey to us, coming through the Lowland League, but they are an established SPFL club now. 'It will be a different challenge for us. We know the manager [Dougie Samuel] very well and it will be a good occasion. ‌ 'I'm glad it is at home for the fans to start the SPFL at K-Park. This is what we've worked hard for down the years, so there is a real level of excitement about the league starting. 'For us, we are happy to be in the league and we will take each week as it comes. 'But with our recruitment I think we will have one of the strongest squads in the league, so we want to get to that top end of the league and push the club towards promotion.'

East Kilbride DOUBLE season ticket cost as price of promotion kicks in for fans

East Kilbride FC fans got a shock this afternoon after the club announced season ticket prices have DOUBLED now they are in the SPFL. After 11 years of trying, Lowland League champions Kilby won the pyramid play-off final last month, defeating Bonnyrigg Rose 3-1 on aggregate to earn their place in League Two for the forthcoming season. Advertisement Last season, the club charged £110 for general season tickets, with concessions (65+) priced at £75. However, this season's briefs - which go on sale on Monday - will see loyal fans forced to fork out £220 to see their side at K-Park, which has a maximum capacity of just 700. Concessions have jumped up to £140, while child season tickets are priced at £70. Fans also have to pay a £3 service charge for digital/card payments. Boss Mick Kennedy has jumped to the club's defence on social media. The club are trying to be fair but also need to build a model that is sustainable, professional and that can be competitive. Advertisement "The club is looking to build a new 4 million pound stadium, fully financed by the owners. The owners couldn't be anymore supportive of the club and its future, but there needs to be balance and the new prices are very competitive." One fan tweeted in response: "I understand you're saying it's a competitive rate but to literally double the season ticket in price is really dissapointing. Too much of a jump imo, would've been a better option to lower the price to around 170 and have more bodies in the gates rather than double the price." In contrast, near neighbours Clyde - who play at New Douglas Park in Hamilton - are charging £260 for adult tickets, £200 for over 65s, £200 for 18-26yrs and £50 for under-18s. Under 12s go free with a paying adult, over 65 or young person. Clemson players, prospects who are participating in the 2025 MLB draft combine

Clemson players, prospects who are participating in the 2025 MLB draft combine The MLB Draft Combine kicks off Tuesday at noon (EDT) in Phoenix, and Clemson will once again have a presence at the event. Per Baseball America, outfielder Cam Cannarella, standout transfer Ryan Wideman, and incoming signees Dax Kilby (SS) and Nick Frusco (LHP) are among the attendees. Cannarella and Kilby have both drawn Day 1 draft projections, with currently projecting Cannarella to go No. 38 overall to the Mets. Cannarella is the highest-ranked among the four, coming in at No. 39 on prospect list. Kilby follows at No. 79, Wideman at 155, and Frusco is currently unranked. Wideman, a Clemson legacy, recently transferred from Western Kentucky and joins Cannarella in earning All-American recognition for the 2024 season. calls Kilby 'one of the more polished high school bats' with second-round potential if he's signable. Cannarella is praised for his elite bat-to-ball skills, though there are questions about his power and swing discipline. Wideman is described as a highly athletic, toolsy outfielder, but scouts have concerns about his approach and contact quality. Last year, three Clemson-affiliated players attended the combine—two (Will Taylor and Austin Gordon) were drafted, while two signees enrolled at Clemson. The MLB Draft Combine includes medical evaluations, interviews with club executives, and media opportunities. MLB Network will begin live coverage at noon Tuesday. This year's MLB Draft is scheduled for July 13–14 during All-Star Week in Atlanta.
