Tribal organisations organise bandh in Alluri Sitharama Raju district seeking special DSC for tribals
Following a call given by the Agency DSC Sadhana Committee demanding conduct of a special DSC for the tribals, a large number of tribal youth took part in bandh in Alluri Sitharama Raju district on Friday. Shops, business establishments in Araku, Paderu, Chintapalli, Ananthagiri and other important areas in the district, were partially closed, while transportation also took a hit as part of bandh. Members of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and all the tribal organisations supported the bandh. The agitators attempted to stop the buses from the depots and also placed vehicles in middle of the roads. Member of A.P. Girijan Sangham Killo Surendra said that the Girijan Sangham members met the authorities concerned requesting them to organise special DSC for the tribals. 'However, the response was not great. So, we have decided to organise bandh,' he said, while staging a protest at Paderu along with the members. He also demanded that the teacher posts in the Agency areas be exempted from the Mega DSC notification. Paderu MLA M. Visweswara Rao, who took part in the protest, said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had promised to take steps to amend the G.O No. 3 that was struck down by the apex court. Mr. Naidu also assured to conduct an exclusive DSC for the benefit of the tribal youth. However, even after almost one year, the NDA government failed to take any action on this, the MLA said. Mr. Visweswara Rao demanded that an exclusive DSC be conducted for the tribals reserving 100% of the teacher posts in scheduled areas for the tribal candidates. Araku MP Gumma Thanuja Rani has also participated in the protest. It was learnt that the tribals have decided to continue their protest on Saturday.
