Colleagues of woman murdered and decapitated by evil boyfriend were shocked by her death

Theo Giameos employed tragic Phoenix-Spencer-Horn at his cafe in Strathven. The former boss of a woman who was brutally murdered by her boyfriend has told how her shocking death stunned her friends and colleagues. ‌ Phoenix Spencer-Horn, 21, was savagely attacked in a flat she shared with Ewan Methven in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire. ‌ She was strangled and repeatedly stabbed before evil Methven severed her head and attempted to dismember her body. ‌ He admitted murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice and was jailed for life with a minimum sentence of 23 years at the High Court in Glasgow. Theo Giameos, who employed Phoenix at his Roasted cafe in her hometown of Strathaven, told of his horror at her murder and said there was no indication Methven would subject her to violence. Theo, 52, said: "Letting girls know that if they are in a situation like that then they can seek help and in regard to Phoenix's situation, there was no evidence or writing on the wall that indicated that this would be the outcome or this would happen. "It was a horrific, horrific incident and it has affected everyone differently and the current fundraiser for the Kiltwalk is sitting at just over £5,000. "You can see that there's a lot of people who are prepared to get behind it and it is more just sending that message that you are not alone and if you need help reach out and there are people there who are prepared to help." ‌ He added: "She worked on the Thursday and on the Friday. I was outside and little did I know that the last time she walked past me while she was drinking her iced latte, glanced over her shoulder and looked back at me, that was the last time that I'd see her. "Phoenix was in the prime of her life, she had the rest of her life to look forward to and she has been taken far too soon. "It's one of those things, if it was cancer you could live with it, if it was a car accident you could live with it but it is not what you expect and you don't want to ever hear that again or wish that upon anybody." ‌ Theo is part of a group who are taking part in the Kiltwalk to raise money for Glasgow Women's Aid in memory of Phoenix. Speaking to local station Avondale Radio, he added: "A lot of the time people do the Kiltwalk and raise awareness for various charities and this particular one is going towards Glasgow Women's Aid and it is in memory of our lost soldier Phoenix who was a friend, a colleague and a daughter and she was killed under horrific circumstances. ‌ "This is just to raise awareness and hopefully let people know that there is hope out there and if they need to seek help and seek advice then there's avenues they can go down and lean on for support. "It is quite personal to a lot of the girls to make sure that we do it. She was one of the hardest workers that I've ever met and at the same time she was very firm and strong and opinionated. "She was hands down the hardest worker I've known." ‌ The 20 mile Kiltwalk will take place in September and the group, dubbed Phe's Angel Fighters, have already raised more than £6,000. Glasgow Women's Aid said: "We cannot express our gratitude enough for this. "The money raised will help us to continue to help women and girls in abusive relationships and prevent the loss of other young women to male violence." Methven, 27, choked Phoenix before severing her head and trying to remove her limbs and torso from her body in November last year.

The surprise took place last month when Fiona was invited to her aunt's house in Erskine thinking she was helping her dad, Andy, care for her mum following chemotherapy at the Beatson. Unknown to Fiona, the Kiltwalk and Arnold Clark team had secretly arrived at the house with the specially branded Kiltwalk car – complete with feather flags and a giant red bow – to break the news that she had been chosen as this year's winner. Gordon, her husband, as well as her cousin, nieces and other family members, were also in on the act and gathered to witness the emotional moment Fiona was told the incredible news. Fiona said: "I honestly couldn't believe it. I walked the Kiltwalk for my mum and the Beatson who've been amazing. I was lucky to do the walk with my cousin, Annette, who considers my mum as her mum too and I couldn't pick a better walking partner. ‌ "This year's been so tough for our family, and we never expected anything like this. It's such a generous prize, and I'm just so grateful.' Russell Borrie, Chief Executive Officer at Arnold Clark, said: "We're absolutely thrilled to hand over £30,000 of credit towards a new car to this year's Glasgow Kiltwalk Car Reward winner, Fiona. ‌ 'This is a very well-deserved prize, and we are sure Fiona's entire family are extremely proud of her fundraising efforts for the Beatson Cancer Charity, supporting all the wonderful work they do to help those affected by cancer. 'Congratulations once again and we hope you enjoy your new car!' Maisie McCormick, Community Fundraising Manager at Beatson Cancer Charity, commented: "We'll use the vehicle in so many different ways. The fundraising team attend so many events, so this will help transport staff, volunteers and so many different items. It's going to make a huge difference!" Kiltwalk CEO Paul Cooney added: 'Fiona is a true Kiltwalk hero. She embodies the Kiltwalk kindness that motivates our fantastic community, and we were thrilled to surprise her with this incredible prize thanks to Arnold Clark.'

Kilmarnock teachers complete 10k challenge as a heartfelt tribute tragic pupil

The teachers are now hoping to make this an annual event to raise money for bone cancer research. Park School teachers took on a 10k challenge at Race for Life as a heartfelt tribute to Katy Hay, a beloved S4 pupil who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. The Cancer Research UK Race for Life took place at the Low Green on Sunday, June 1 where the Park School team raised over £5,500 for life-saving research. ‌ Claire Matthews, the S4 key teacher, told Ayrshire Live: "The day started cold and wet but the weather picked up and we had a great day. ‌ "Katy's mum, aunt and one of her sisters came to cheer us on along with her best friend Kirsty and her mum. They stayed until every single one of us crossed the finishing line and cheered us all on throughout the race. "Some ran and others walked but we all completed the 10k and raised over £5,400 so far for Cancer Research. Dr Marie Macklin donated £1,000 which gave us all such a boost." Alanah Robb, who was Katy's key teacher, added: "It was a fantastic day tinged with sadness. We all wore our Katy T-shirts. We were the only ones wearing photo T-shirts so we really stood out on the course. "Crossing the finish line was bittersweet. We had a huge sense of achievement at completing the race but also sadness that our fundraising focus had come to an end." Fifteen-year-old Katy sadly lost her battle in April, after fighting stage 4 Ewing Sarcoma, one of the rarest and most aggressive forms of bone cancer for the past year. ‌ Katy knew about the fundraiser before she passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29. She was moved by the gesture from her teachers and felt proud. Katy's mum Shelly Cornick said: "The Race for Life was good and the team did amazing. ‌ "However, it was difficult, because Katy was supposed to be there to support them." Shelly continued: "We wanted to be there to support the team as we knew how much Katy wanted to go so we felt it was our place to be there." Park school teachers are now hoping to make this an annual event to raise money for bone cancer research. ‌ Claire mentioned: "Katy's mum Shelly said that she is going to do the Kiltwalk next year specifically for bone cancer and, all being well, 'Katy's Krew' will join her. "We are hoping to do something similar now annually. "Shelly says she is going to fundraise in Katy's name from now on and she asked if she could use the name 'Katy's Krew' for all fundraising activities in the future. We would be more than honoured for this to happen." ‌ Shelly is determined to join Katy's teachers to raise money for the Bone Cancer Research Trust. She explained: "I have asked that all money raised in the future fundraisers goes straight to the Bone Cancer Trust as only about 1 per cent from Cancer Research goes to fund life-saving research for bone cancer/Ewing Sarcoma. ‌ "We are going to set up a fund in Katy's name and all money raised will go to fund trying to find better treatment and hopefully a cure. "As a family, we are also going to fight to try and spread awareness for Ewing Sarcoma and try and fight for change in the amount of money that is not available for it." Park school teachers, together with pupils, also came up with other ideas to remember Katy. ‌ Head Teacher, Mrs Carol Anne Burns said: "There will be a 'Katy Hay Award for Resilience' every year in our Celebrating Success Assembly. "Every year on April 29 pupils will also wear blue or pink to remember Katy. We may ask pupils for £1 donation on this day. There are also plans for a stained glass window and a daffodil garden which will be in bloom every April. "We all feel it is important that we never forget Katy and that we celebrate her too short life." To support a fundraiser, please visit here.

Linwood fundraiser 'stunned' after landing £30,000 car cash gift

Glasgow Kiltwalk sponsors Arnold Clark handed the money to Fiona for her heroic efforts in helping the Beatson Cancer Charity. A big-hearted Linwood woman was left 'stunned' when she was handed £30,000 to be put towards a new car from Arnold Clark. The reward was for her heartfelt fundraising efforts in this year's Glasgow Kiltwalk.
