KACST Manufactures 25 Advanced Electronic Chips by Saudi Talents
Saudi Arabia's King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) announced on Thursday its successful design and fabrication of 25 advanced electronic chips, developed by Saudi talents in its cleanroom laboratories for purposes of training, research, and development. The achievement is part of KACST's ongoing efforts to support and enable the semiconductor ecosystem in the Kingdom. These chips are distinguished by their versatility and can be used in a range of applications, including electronics, wireless and high-frequency communications, integrated circuits, energy-efficient lighting, micro-sensor systems, as well as industrial and research applications in measurement and testing. The chip design process involved researchers from the National Laboratory, alongside students from four Saudi universities. This effort was conducted under the initiatives of the Saudi Semiconductors Program (SSP), which aims to build national expertise in this critical field. The chips can be used in a range of applications. (SPA) This milestone is part of a series of strategic initiatives led by KACST to support the semiconductor sector in the Kingdom, including the Saudi Semiconductors Program to boost research and development and qualify human talent and the "Ignition" semiconductor incubator program to support startups and entrepreneurs. Through these initiatives, KACST underscored its commitment to the ambitious goals of Saudi Vision 2030 by localizing strategic technologies, empowering national talent, and achieving technological self-sufficiency in advanced domains.

Saudi Researcher at MIT Develops Cutting-Edge System for Dust Storm Monitoring
A Saudi doctoral candidate in civil and environmental engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is pioneering advanced tools to monitor and analyze dust storms using artificial intelligence (AI) and satellite data. Focusing on vast regions across Saudi Arabia and the Sahara Desert, the research integrates scientific innovation with the goals of environmental sustainability. Faisal AlNasser, a scholarship recipient from King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), was awarded the 2024 MIT Open Data Prize for his efforts in providing remote sensing data to areas lacking conventional weather monitoring systems—significantly enhancing climate surveillance in desert regions. As part of this project, AlNasser has published three peer-reviewed papers exploring how nature reserves can help mitigate dust storms. Additionally, his findings offer valuable insights for developing early-warning systems that protect lives and reduce economic damage caused by these environmental hazards. This work highlights Saudi Arabia's growing leadership in applying AI to environmental challenges and its commitment to supporting impactful, real-world research. Riyadh festival inspires youth with math, tech focus
RIYADH: The second STEAM Festival, themed 'Math, the Language of Science,' ended at the King Salman Science Oasis in Riyadh, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday. The event featured 25 interactive pavilions, dialogue sessions, theatrical performances and workshops focused on science and innovation. It was organized in partnership with the Ministry of Education, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, the National Institute for Educational Professional Development and the Saudi National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, with support from the Riyadh Foundation for Science. The festival drew thousands of students from across the Kingdom, more than 400 volunteers and more than 800 teachers who took part in workshops. Attendees embarked on an inspiring educational journey through Arab, Islamic and Saudi scientific heritage, modern mathematical applications, emerging technologies and future opportunities. Specialized panel discussions led by experts explored key topics in mathematics, technology and innovation, the SPA reported. The festival also marked the launch of a national initiative to promote science and technology festivals. The scheme aims to spark youth interest in STEM, nurture innovation skills and build globally competitive generations.
