REVELOT's Limited Edition Durian Watch Is Here & It's Bold, Spiky & Proudly Malaysian

Now this does NOT stink! Introducing REVELOT's Limited Edition Hexmariner Durian Watch – a bold nod to Malaysia's most iconic and controversial fruit. Love it or hate it, the durian is loud, proud, and unforgettable – just like this watch. Inspired by the nation's obsession, REVELOT turns the King of Fruits into a stylish statement piece that's cheeky, bold, and uniquely local. Where Sharp Flavour Meets Even Sharper Design True to its inspiration, the watch is spiked with personality. Finished in rich green and yellow tones, the durian-green dial features a geometric texture that echoes the fruit's thorny silhouette, while yellow lumed hexagonal indices nod to its golden flesh. The chapter ring is etched with 'KING OF FRUITS', wrapping the dial in a playful wink to those in the know. A durian-green ceramic bezel with yellow lumed markers frames the design, while a lumed miniature durian perched on the second hand delivers a final, irreverent touch to this layered homage. A Campaign With Bite The campaign visuals extend the watch's duality into a compelling narrative, starring Malaysian model and actress Nia Atasha. A modern style muse known for her fearless edge and cultural fluency, Nia brings a magnetic presence to the frame. Shot in an opulent fine-dining setting, the imagery pairs luxury with levity, navigating the ritual of eating durian with the poise of couture. She wears a striking neon gown by Syomirizwa Gupta, a designer celebrated for bold colour and culturally layered storytelling, adding a distinctly Malaysian elegance to the surreal setting. The mood is rich and cinematic, blending sensuality with a touch of irony, as the familiar is reframed through a lens of high fashion. A Collector's Piece With A Cultural Pulse The Hexmariner Durian Watch isn't a novelty; it's a study in nuance, a quiet provocation that reminds us that cultural icons don't need to be polished to be powerful. But when elevated with contemporary design and precision, it becomes a collector's piece that refuses to blend in. The Limited Edition Hexmariner Durian Watch will be available starting 18th July 2025, at an Early Bird price of RM1,388, with a regular retail price of RM1,688. Available in limited quantities on and at selected Timekeeper stores.

Building rapport with Tanjong community over feast of durians

Hui Ying (third right) sharing a light moment with attendees at the durian event at Lee Sih Chong Soo Hall in Burma Road. — KT GOH/The Star THE aroma of durian filled the air during a festival at Lee Sih Chong Soo Hall along Burma Road in George Town to celebrate the spirit of community. The event, organised by Tanjong MP and Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, saw about 500kg of the King of Fruits served to some 300 guests. These comprised community group members and media personnel who had contributed time and effort to help the public. Hui Ying thanked the many hands behind community- building in her constituency. 'We gather not only to enjoy the King of Fruits, but more importantly, to appreciate our comrades who have always served with dedication for the well-being of our community. 'I would like to express my deepest appreciation to all, including members of the Village Community Management Councils, Women and Family Development Committee, Youth Committee, and Parliament and service centre members, as well as officials from various departments, and agencies, including the media,' she said in her speech. Attendees were treated to a feast of premium durian varieties such as Udang Merah, Hor Lor, Kulit Hijau, and Naga Emas. Other local favourite fruits like rambutans and mangosteens were also served. Hui Ying also highlighted the Madani government reforms and achievements in national finance. 'Since taking office, the Madani government has implemented a range of bold reforms including subsidy rationalisation, expansion of SST and restructuring of national expenditure. 'These reforms have begun to bear fruit, with the fiscal deficit reduced by 17%, increased tax revenues, and Malaysia climbing to 23rd place in the World Competitiveness Ranking 2025. 'Among the reforms with the most direct impact on the people is the increase in allocation for cash assistance. 'This year, the government raised the allocation for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) to RM13bil, up from RM10bil last year, making it the largest cash assistance in the country's history. 'Through Sara, recipients can spend the aid directly using their MyKad at over 3,700 registered shops nationwide, including more than 190 in Penang. 'The amount of assistance also increased to RM1,200 per year, and up to RM2,100 for certain households,' she said. Also present were DAP veteran Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, several state assemblymen and community leaders.

Go easy on durian, say experts

(From left) Mohammad Taufik Saidon, Muhamad Hafiz Azizan and Mohd Iszuan Ismail from Alor Setar enjoying the King of Fruits at Anjung Indah in Balik Pulau, Penang. — ZHAFARAN NASIB/The Star IT IS durian season again, but over-indulging in the King of Fruits can pose a serious risk to our health. Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) family medicine specialist Dr Mastura Mohd Sopian said those with diabetes, heart disease, kidney problems or high blood pressure should not binge eat. 'To enjoy the nutritional benefits of durian safely, limit intake to no more than two medium-sized pieces per day, or about 80g,' she said. Eating too much durian could have a negative impact on blood sugar levels, she noted. 'Bingeing on durian may cause discomfort and disrupt normal metabolic functions. 'For those with chronic conditions, durian should only be consumed in small amounts, occasionally or not at all,' she added. Dr Mastura said certain foods should be avoided when eating durian, which contains carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. 'These include spicy dishes, caffeine, carbonated drinks, sweet fruits, desserts, soft drinks and sugar-sweetened beverages. 'Consuming these alongside durian can cause digestive discomfort and increase health risks,' she said. 'Durian also has a 'heaty' effect, though reactions may vary among individuals,' said Dr Mastura. Penang Health Department nutritionist Zuhaida Harun said that like any other fruit, durian should be eaten according to the recommended serving size. 'One serving of durian is two to three pieces. 'It is high in calories and natural sugar. 'For people with diabetes, it can cause a dangerous spike in blood sugar,' she said. Zuhaida said high consumption of durian could significantly increase a person's overall calorie intake. 'Sometimes, bingeing can also lead to other health issues such as bloating, indigestion or feeling overheated,' she said, adding that moderation applied to all foods. Penang health committee chairman Daniel Gooi reminded the public to practise moderation when enjoying durian, especially during the current peak season, to avoid potential health risks. 'Overindulgence, particularly in hot weather, can lead to discomfort such as a sore throat, dehydration or digestive problems,' he said. 'Drink plenty of water and exercise self-control to fully appreciate the fruit without experiencing adverse effects,' Gooi advised.

Durian season begins: How to feast safely and where to get the best deals

Overindulging can lead to that dreaded 'heaty' feeling, often marked by sore throats, mouth ulcers or even mild dehydration. Photo for illustrative purposes only. (Canva) DURIAN season has officially kicked off in Malaysia, and with the King of Fruits flooding markets nationwide, it's the perfect time to indulge in this thorny delicacy. However, as any seasoned durian fan knows, overindulging can lead to that dreaded 'heaty' feeling, often marked by sore throats, mouth ulcers or even mild dehydration. To enjoy durian without the downsides, here are some tried-and-true tips: Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water before and after eating durian to help your body balance the heatiness. Avoid caffeine and alcohol: Combining these with durian can strain your digestion and increase internal heat. Pair with cooling foods: Some swear by drinking coconut water or eating mangosteen (dubbed the "queen of fruits") to balance durian's effects. Moderation is key: As tempting as it is, avoid consuming too much in one sitting, especially in this hot, dry spell. With the heatwave persisting across parts of Malaysia, taking care while enjoying your seasonal favourites is more important than ever.
