Cardinals training camp: Practice ends early as LB J.J. Russell suffers scary injury

The Arizona Cardinals' first practice of training camps with fans in the stadium was cut short after a scary moment. A pair of new defensive additions this offseason — rookie safety Kitan Crawford and fourth-year linebacker J.J. Russell — had a collision on a play that led to Russell having to be taken off the field on a board and carted to the locker room. It was serious enough that the entire team surrounded him on their knees and head coach Jonathan Gannon ended practice early. The Cardinals gave an update later in the afternoon about Russell, saying that he was taken to a local hospital for testing and observation. He was being evaluated for head and neck injuries. He was responsive on the field and was able to move his extremities. It appears that, albeit scary, things will be all right. The Cardinals will be back on the field Friday in front of fans at State Farm Stadium.
