1 dead after bus, car collide near Sharbot Lake

Social Sharing One person is dead and another was taken to hospital with injuries after a car collided with a coach bus near Sharbot Lake, Ont., according to provincial police. Emergency crews were called to the collision on Highway 7 west of Silver Lake Provincial Park around 4 p.m. Saturday, OPP said in a news release Sunday morning. The driver of the car, a 29-year-old man from Kitchener, Ont., died in the crash, police wrote. The coach bus was carrying over 30 passengers, OPP said, but only the driver was hurt in the crash. They suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital. Police are still investigating and have asked anyone with information or video footage of the collision to contact Frontenac OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

The collision happened at the intersection of Perth Road 164 and Perth Line 20, southwest of Mitchell, around noon. OPP said four people, including two small children, were taken to a local trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries. A 20-year-old Kitchener man was charged with failing to yield. 'Perth County sees an increase in traffic during the summer months due to travel to and from Lake Huron cottage and beach locations,' police said in a release. 'The Perth County OPP want to remind all motorists to obey the rules of the road, especially in relation to speed and controlled intersections.'

Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service found the men in the Preston area of Cambridge on Thursday. The first man, a 38-year-old from Kitchener, was wanted on four warrants including break and enter, failing to attend court and failing to comply with a release order. The other man, a 33-year-old from Cambridge, was wanted by the Stratford Police Service on three unspecified warrants. The next day, police searched a home on King Street East in Cambridge. They seized suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, oxycodone and hydromorphone. They also found an improvised conducted energy weapon, a replica rifle and pepper spray. Both men have been charged with five counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of careless use of a firearm and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Ontario Provincial Police say a driver from Kitchener was allegedly going 208 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 416 in Ottawa. (OPP/X) Ontario Provincial Police say a Kitchener man is facing serious fines after being stopped allegedly driving more than double the speed limit on Highway 416 in Ottawa. In a post on social media, the OPP said the 30-year-old driver was going 208 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the 416. Police stopped the driver at around 11:30 a.m. Friday just south of Highway 417, OPP told CTV News Ottawa. The man has been charged with stunt driving. His vehicle has been impounded for 14 days, and his driver's licence was automatically suspended for 30 days. OPP say he could face a fine of up to $10,000 and significantly longer licence suspensions upon conviction.

20-year-old cyclist seriously hurt after crash in Kitchener

A 20-year-old man was sent to hospital after a crash in Kitchener Tuesday evening. Just before 6 p.m. Waterloo Regional Police said they were called to a crash between a Toyota SUV and a cyclist at the intersection of King Street East and Cedar Street North. Police said the cyclist was hit by the SUV and was sent to hospital with serious injuries. The 38-year-old Kitchener man driving the SUV was not hurt. Police said charges are expected. They are asking anyone who saw the crash or has video of the incident to call police at 519-570-9777, extension 8856.
