Better Man

The BAFTA-nominated musical take on Robbie William's life, with the singer played by a digital chimp Year: 2024 Certificate: 15 Watch now on Prime Video Have you ever imagined what a film of Robbie Williams's life might look like if he were played by a digital chimp, and it were staged as a jukebox musical? That's exactly the approach Michael Gracey's film takes to portraying the ascent of the Angels singer, tracing his rise from the streets of Stoke-on-Trent to the heights of entertaining more than 375,000 at Knebworth in 2003. It's a rags-to-riches story then, but one shot through with the importance of relationships - chiefly, Robbie's relationship with himself. The portrayal of the ex-Take Thatter as a chimp represents Robbie's insecurities and how he measures himself through the eyes of those around him, personally and professionally. Two other relationships are significant here, too - that with his showman father and with All Saints' Nicole Appleton, to whom Robbie was engaged. The story of their relationship and especially why she didn't move forward with her pregnancy, is arguably the emotional core of the film and unexpectedly moving in what it says about the cost of fame and why people are prepared to pay it. Gracey's film is filled with creatively staged musical numbers that veer in style from West End razzmatazz to edgy music video, deploying nifty visual effects throughout that earned it a BAFTA nomination. It's also, we shouldn't forget to say, a highly entertaining film to watch, particularly the stretch detailing Robbie's time with Take That. Although it may leave you wondering why on earth anyone would pursue a career in pop music in the first place. (135 minutes)

But are there any tickets left to be part of that potential experience, and what about tickets to their London dates? The third of Oasis's homecoming shows at Heaton Park, Manchester, continues this evening, with the hometown heroes eliciting some of the biggest crowd responses of the year so far. Though perhaps not as hallowed as their 1996 Knebworth shows, it is still an incredibly significant moment for fans and pop culture alike; who would have thought this time last year that Liam and Noel Gallagher would make amends and perform together again after their acrimonious split in 2009 . Well, according to one bookmaker, you might want to mind your language come the next Manchester show – you could be part of a live album, and the odds are very favourable. What are the odds that Oasis' Heaton Park shows will become a live album? Bookies think that the current shows Oasis are performing in Manchester will be released as a live album - with an overwhelming 91% probability according to Betway. | OLI SCARFF/AFP via Getty Images/Canva According to Betway , there is a strong likelihood the hometown shows might become a future 'Live at Heaton Park' album release, with the bookmaker citing 11/10 odds it will happen - a probability of 91%. Orlando Bloom shrugs off Katy Perry split by singing his heart out at Oasis gig

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Orlando Bloom at Heaton Park is not a sight we expected to see this weekend. But by the looks of things, there's nowhere else Orlando would rather have been than singing his heart out at an Oasis gig. Brushing off his recent personal drama after splitting from pop star Katy Perry, the actor, 48, had the time of his life at the Gallagher brothers' second home show in Manchester. While he's used to spending much of his time in the States to co-parent daughter Daisy Dove, the English movie star unleashed his truest, fullest Brit on Saturday night. Taking to Instagram with a warning message before spamming his seven million followers with content, he wrote: 'If you don't like @oasis swipe on- if you wanna see me run through some of my favourite karaoke numbers for laughs here you are lol'. What followed was an onslaught of videos from the gig, which was part of Liam and Noel's worldwide reunion tour, marking their first time sharing the stage since disbanding in 2009. Orlando was in his absolute element in the VIP area, surrounded by the Oasis kids, including Liam's sons Lennon, 25, and Gene, 24. The Lord of the Rings star belted out the band's biggest hits, such as Don't Look Back in Anger, Wonderwall, and Champagne Supernova. He jumped around without a care in the world and panned across the sold-out crowd sporting Oasis merch, arms in the air. There didn't appear to be a lyric Orlando didn't know, proving he could've been a backing singer while screaming along to Take Me Away, Half the World Away, and Live Forever. At the end of the night, he added: 'My 16 year old self who was at Knebworth just let it all hang out in Manchester what a night'. Ahead of the gig, Orlando let his fans know exactly how he was feeling, posting a video with the caption from his journey: 'Road to Oasis. Could not be more f'in excited'. 'It's gonna be karaoke all night,' he later declared, beaming at the camera. Orlando's love life has been a hot topic of conversation lately, as it was recently confirmed that he and fiancée Katy, 40, were no longer together romantically. After much speculation, the pair finally issued a statement via their representatives, telling Us Weekly: 'Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry's relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting.' They continued: 'They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is—and always will be—raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.' Orlando and Katy got together in 2016, and after a brief split and reconciliation, they got engaged on Valentine's Day in 2019 and welcomed Daisy four years ago. Things appear to be pretty civil between the exes now, though, as they were photographed together just days after their split was confirmed, partying with Jeff and Lauren Bezos on their honeymoon. Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando had already attended the wedding itself alone, while Katy was touring in Australia. The Roar hitmaker did, however, previously attend Lauren's star-studded bachelorette party in Paris, having also been a passenger alongside her for their brief Blue Origin trip to space earlier in the year. While it had been claimed Katy felt hurt by Orlando partying with fellow A-listers, such as Sydney Sweeney and Kim Kardashian, at the Bezos nuptials, sources have insisted there's no real bad blood. Ahead of the split statement being made public, an insider said: 'Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable. 'It's not contentious at the moment. Katy is, of course, upset but is relieved not to have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life.' The Teenage Dream singer was previously married to Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012. In a now-famously viral moment, the Get Him to the Greek actor told Katy he wanted a divorce via text message before she was due on stage. More Trending Meanwhile, she and Orlando, who was married to Miranda Kerr from 2010 to 2013, were initially due to marry in Japan in 2020 with 150 guests in attendance. Alas, they postponed the celebrations due to the pandemic. Speaking in 2022, Katy admitted that they were still get to decide on a location, telling the Kyle & Jackie O radio show: 'It's a destination location that, like, you know, we're still trying for it to work out. 'But every couple of months it's like, 'New variant! New variant! New variant!'' Got a story? But watching this film brought it all back, for me it was the Woodstock of the Nineties, you know, the music and the people coming together. It was biblical and I'll never forget it." The huge shows took place 10 months after the release of the band's second album (What's The Story) Morning Glory, when they were at the height of their fame. Two years after the release of their debut album, Definitely Maybe, Liam and Noel had become one of the biggest bands in the world. In 2021 Liam announced a huge show at Knebworth, marking a return to the site of the band's history-making gigs.
