Nvidia RTX 50 SUPER GPUs may arrive sooner than you think — even before CES 2026

Nvidia RTX 50 SUPER GPUs are rumored to be in the works, which will hopefully (and finally) fix the lack of video memory on its latest graphics cards. Now, it appears we may see them arrive soon — even before the start of 2026. According to news outlet TweakTown, sources claim the Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 Super series is set to launch in Q4 2025, or sometime during the holiday season. This means we could see an RTX 5080 SUPER, 5070 Ti SUPER and 5070 SUPER arrive before their expected announcement during CES 2026. This puts the release windows between October and December, despite CES 2026 kicking off at the start of January 2026. Team Green's SUPER models generally launch around 12 months after the release of the base models, so this launch window does line up. However, at under 12 months, it would be the earliest launch of an RTX SUPER GPU, seeing as the RTX 5080 launched on January 30, while the RTX 5070 Ti was released in February and the RTX 5070 came to shelves in early March. If accurate, we'll see stronger RTX 50 SUPER cards before the end of the year, with the RTX 5080 SUPER expected to be the first to arrive. This also falls in line with a previous rumor suggesting RTX 5080 SUPER and 5070 SUPER GPUs would arrive in 2025, as per Moore's Law is Dead. Thanks to reliable leaker Kopite7kimi, we have a hint of the rumored specs the RTX 5080, 5070 Ti and 5070 SUPER will deliver. While there's an expected increase in CUDA Cores (only with the RTX 5070 SUPER) and TGP, the real draw is the boost in video memory (VRAM). One general complaint in Nvidia's latest graphics cards is that they lack enough VRAM, especially when it comes to the 12GB GDDR7 VRAM in the RTX 5070. However, the SUPER series is expected to deliver a big jump in video memory, Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Here's a look at the rumored specs of the RTX 5080, 5070 Ti and 5070 SUPER, and how much of a boost these GPUs offer over the base RTX 50-series counterparts. GPU RTX 5080 SUPER RTX 5080 RTX 5070 Ti SUPER RTX 5070 Ti RTX 5070 SUPER RTX 5070 CUDA Cores 10752 10752 8960 8960 6400 6144 Video Memory 24GB GDDR7 16GB GDDR7 24GB GDDR7 16GB GDDR7 18GB GDDR7 12GB GDDR7 TGP 415 Watts 360 Watts 350 Watts 300 Watts 275 Watts 250 Watts This would allow more room for higher resolutions (like 4K) in demanding AAA titles, path tracing and more, seeing as Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing in overdrive mode can push 16GB. Pricing is still up in the air, although the previous RTX 40 SUPER series launched at a cheaper price than their base alternatives, so hopefully, Nvidia follows that tradition. That said, seeing as the price of RTX 50-series GPUs has gone beyond MSRP, and with the rumored release date coming soon, this may not be the case. We'll know more closer to the RTX 50 SUPER series launch date, but for now, check out our thoughts on the RTX 5060 Ti. I've been waiting for this: Nvidia RTX 5080, 5070 Ti and 5070 SUPER could finally fix the biggest flaw — not enough VRAM

One common complaint about Nvidia's RTX 50-series GPUs amongst PC gamers has been the amount of video memory (VRAM) for what you pay. DLSS 4 and neural rendering help lighten the load, but demanding AAA titles can still push systems to their limits quickly. But it seems as if Team Green has a plan for this, as according to Kopite7kimi on X (who has been largely reliable with rumors), an RTX 5080 SUPER, 5070 Ti SUPER and 5070 SUPER are in the works. Let's talk about them. GPU RTX 5080 SUPER RTX 5080 RTX 5070 Ti SUPER RTX 5070 Ti RTX 5070 SUPER RTX 5070 CUDA Cores 10752 10752 8960 8960 6400 6144 Video Memory 24GB GDDR7 16GB GDDR7 24GB GDDR7 16GB GDDR7 18GB GDDR7 12GB GDDR7 TGP 415 Watts 360 Watts 350 Watts 300 Watts 275 Watts 250 Watts Elements like ray tracing cores, wattage and clock speed may be important in the mix of a GPU. But VRAM is one of the more crucial elements of a good graphics card. Cyberpunk 2077 with Path Tracing in overdrive mode can push 16GB' Alan Wake 2 can go north of 12GB; and don't even get me started on Indiana Jones. On top of that, higher resolutions will up that demand, too, and with 4K gaming quickly becoming the thing, you need much more headroom. And that 12GB limit on the 5070 was one of my big gripes in my Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 review. To up all these cards by 8GB is going to assure more capabilities to withstand the consistently growing VRAM demands of AAA titles. But the big questions are always going to be price and release date. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Historically, the SUPER updates have either been given the same MSRP as their originals, or have actually been around $150 cheaper. However, it seems like MSRP is just pure fiction. Unless stock issues change and the general tariff-fueled landscape alters dramatically, I have to use common sense and predict that trend will continue. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised though! As for when they launch, looking back, SUPERs usually launch around 9-12 months after the normal models. This could mean a possible CES 2026 launch in January, but given we're already seeing possible specs from a reliable leaker, it could happen slightly sooner. We don't know for sure, but keep an eye on Tom's Guide for the latest on these new GPUs as it happens!

Leaker believes 'there's a surprise' with rumored new take on Nvidia's RTX 5090 GPU – but if that's a cheaper price, there'll be a sting in the tail

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Nvidia could have a new spin on its RTX 5090 graphics card This is rumored to be a new version of the RTX 5090 D for China A leaker says it'll pack a 'surprise', but the truth could be more mundane Nvidia is rumored to be planning a new variant on its Blackwell flagship graphics card, potentially an RTX 5090 DD model – and it could come with a 'surprise' according to one leaker. Tom's Hardware flagged up two separate mentions of this potential GPU (add seasoning with all this) on X, the first of which came from MEGAsizeGPU, who mentioned the RTX 5090 DD and how it will be for China only. So, the theory is that this is a follow-up to the RTX 5090 D (single D, not double D) for China, a different spin on the standard Blackwell flagship which was produced for that country to get around US export regulations. Except the goalposts on those restrictions have been moved, and now rule out the RTX 5090 D itself as too powerful (for AI usage) to be shipped to China. It looks like the idea now is to further cut down the graphics card to again make it feasible to supply to Asia, and call it the RTX 5090 DD. The purported cut-down specs were supplied by another regular on the GPU leaking scene on X, Kopite7kimi, as you can see below. The key changes are a slightly lower-tier GPU chip (GB202-240, rather than GB202-250 as seen in the original 5090 D), and the video RAM has been dropped to 24GB with a narrower 384-bit memory bus. That means a 25% hit on the memory bandwidth compared to the RTX 5090 D, but the core count and TDP remain the same (the latter is interesting, and I'll return to why shortly). Tom's Hardware takes it as read that these two rumors are fully aligned – and they are from what we can see spec-wise – but note that Kopite7kimi has a question mark heading up their post on X, which begins: 'RTX 5090 DD?' However, this is likely referring to questioning the name, and whether this will really be called the RTX 5090 DD, rather than doubting whether this is actually a new spin on a China-only graphics card. Although we should never take anything for granted from the rumor mill, and maybe the latter could be the case. At any rate, the most intriguing bit here is Kopite7kimi's mention of a "surprise" from Nvidia with this GPU. When it comes to the name, yes, making it 'DD' sounds rather implausible, but remember – this is the company that brought you the RTX 4070 Ti Super graphics cards (and similarly clunky bouts of unimaginativeness in the past besides). As mentioned, the surprise is what we really want to know about, and Kopite7kimi doesn't elaborate on what that might be with any kind of a vague hint, even. So, we're left to guess on that score. Tom's Hardware theorizes that the surprise could be further cut-backs to the AI powers of the graphics card delivered via the firmware, and that sounds entirely possible. But equally it sounds entirely dull, and the way the leaker teases that "there's a surprise" feels like it's phrased to stoke a bit of excitement here. A minor chop to AI capabilities hardly qualifies in that respect, but what else could Nvidia possibly have up its sleeve here? For me, this hints that Nvidia is planning a move like cutting the price of the RTX 5090 DD. Or perhaps, most excitingly, offering it outside of China, too? Yeah, okay, that seems unlikely (although as noted, with that question mark, it could be that Kopite7kimi isn't fully sure this is the mentioned Chinese variant). Perhaps more realistically, we could be looking at a fair old bump in clock speeds (hence the TDP staying the same, with the spec being cut down in some key areas). Hopefully, we'll find out soon enough what Nvidia might be up to here, if anything, as this could all turn out to be so much smoke from the rumor mill (or plans from Team Green that never come to fruition). AMD looks like it's losing the GPU war based on new Steam survey, with Nvidia's RTX 5060 Ti proving itself to be popular already Rumored Nvidia RTX 5080 Super specs disappoint some gamers, but I don't think there's anything to worry about with this GPU AMD could be working on a faster RX 9070 Extreme graphics card
