Woltemade to rejoin Stuttgart team on July 28 amid Bayern rumours
Germany's Nick Woltemade celebrates his side's second goal of the game during the UEFA European Under-21 Championship semi-final soccer match between Germany and France at Kosice Football Arena. Robert Nemeti/dpa VfB Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade is to rejoin the team on July 28 ahead of the new season despite rumours of a potential transfer to German champions Bayern Munich. Due to his participation in the Nations League Final Four and in the under-21 Euros this summer, he will receive a few extra vacation days. Advertisement But a club spokesperson confirmed on Monday that he will join his team-mates for their pre-season training camp as planned. Over the weekend, there were speculations whether Bayern could rush to sign Woltemade aftertheir midfielder Jamal Musiala fractured his fibula and dislocated his ankle in the Club World Cup quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday. Musiala will undergo surgery and sidelined for several months. However, according to media reports, Bayern and Suttgart are very far from an agreement over the transfer fee. The German Cup champions allegedly want a huge fee, with some reports speaking of close to €100 million ($117.33 million), to get him out of his contract until 2028. Advertisement Stuttgart kicked off their pre-season preparations with performance tests on Monday. In addition to Woltemade, his national team colleagues Deniz Undav, Maximilian Mittelstädt and Alexander Nübel as well as Bosnian international Ermedin Demirovic were also absent. Unlike Woltemade, the quartet will rejoin the team for a friendly match against SV Fellbach on Saturday.

Polestar Will Continue To Rely On Volvo, As It Grows Lineup Polestar has evolved from Volvo's in-house tuner into a separate brand with its own lineup of electric vehicles, but it's still sticking close to its parent brand. The Polestar 7, a smaller electric SUV due to arrive in 2028, will be built at a Volvo plant in Kosice, Slovakia, the two brands confirmed Thursday. 0:01 / 0:09 2025 Audi S3 VS 2025 Mercedes-AMG CLA 35: Which one comes out on top? Watch More The Polestar 7 will be the second model assembled at the newly-constructed Kosice plant, following a yet-to-be-announced Volvo. The plant itself has been under construction since 2023, and targets annual production capacity of 250,000 vehicles when completed. All of those vehicles will be electric, according to Volvo. Component Sharing Continues As Well Source: Volvo In addition to a production site, the Polestar 7 will share a 'common technology base' with the upcoming Volvo EX60 and another one of that brand's new models, according to Volvo. That includes Volvo's next-generation motors and battery tech, including cell-to-body tech that mounts cells directly to the body structure, as well as mega-casting construction in which said structure is made from fewer, larger pieces for simplified assembly. The Polestar 7 will also share the Superset computing and software stack with the larger Polestar 3 and Volvo EX90, as well as the EX60 and the upcoming Volvo ES90 sedan. The stack is intended to make it easier to push new software-based features and updates. 'Our collaboration with Polestar on the development and manufacturing of the Polestar 7 underscores how Volvo Cars and Polestar continue to leverage synergies to efficiently deliver outstanding vehicles built for our distinct customer segments,' Håkan Samuelsson, CEO of Volvo Cars, said in a statement. Its first production model, the handsome Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid coupe, was built at a dedicated factory in Chengdu, China. But its first volume model, the Polestar 2, is built at a Volvo plant in that country. The Polestar 2 is also based on the same Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) as the Volvo XC40, EX40, and EC40. Similarly, the Polestar 3 shares the SPA2 platform with the Volvo EX90, and U.S.-market vehicles are built alongside the EX90 at Volvo's South Carolina plant. Polestar 4 production for most markets is handled in China, but for the U.S., it's built at a Renault plant in Busan, South Korea, under a complicated arrangement responding to Biden Administration trade policies that disadvantaged China-made EVs. The Trump Administration's current global trade war could make it all for nought, though. The Polestar 5, a sleek fastback targeting the Porsche Taycan, and the Polestar 6, a sports car, are also in the queue, although production sites haven't been announced. Both are expected to use more bespoke Polestar engineering, including massive battery cells in the 5 aiming to boost range. But they're also likely to sell in much smaller volumes than the Volvo-derived Polestar 7. About the Author Stephen Edelstein View Profile

European production of Polestar 7 confirmed for Slovakia
Geely-owned Polestar has signed a memorandum of understanding with fellow Geely unit Volvo Cars to have Polestar 7 manufactured in Kosice, Slovakia, in advance of the planned launch of the premium compact SUV in 2028. Polestar says the Polestar 7 will be developed to use engineering architectures from within the Geely Holding Group. Polestar 7 will utilise a technology base from Volvo Cars, benefiting from group component sharing, cell-to-body technology (with 'next-generation battery density'), as well as in-house developed e-motors. Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO, said: 'Working with Volvo Cars to develop and manufacture Polestar 7 in Europe is a unique opportunity that will strengthen our position in our home market. Our strategy of utilising Group architectures as the base for our future model line-up gives us access to the best, latest technologies, in a cost-efficient manner. 'With a design and sporty driving characteristics that are instantly recognisable, Polestar 7 will set new standards in the premium compact SUV segment.' Håkan Samuelsson, Volvo Cars President and CEO, added: 'Our collaboration with Polestar on the development and manufacturing of the Polestar 7 underscores how Volvo Cars and Polestar continue to leverage synergies to efficiently deliver outstanding vehicles built for our distinct customer segments.' Construction started on the Volvo Cars factory in Kosice in 2023. The company says the location of the factory offers good logistical connections to European markets and a developed supplier base. Volvo Cars pushes back large-scale production at new Slovak plant to early 2027
STOCKHOLM, July 3 (Reuters) - Volvo Cars ( opens new tab has pushed back large-scale production at its factory under construction in Slovakia to early 2027 from 2026 to optimise the Swedish automaker's product launch timeline, a spokesperson said on Thursday. The spokesperson said the decision was not made recently, but declined to comment on when it was taken. The Gothenburg-based company, owned by China's Geely Holding ( has not stated publicly which car will be produced at the plant in Kosice, but said on Tuesday it would be a next-generation Volvo model. Earlier on Thursday, Polestar, also owned by Geely, said in a separate statement that it would start producing its upcoming Polestar 7 SUV at the Kosice plant in 2028. The plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of 250,000 cars. In April, shortly after returning as the CEO of Volvo Cars, Hakan Samuelsson said the automaker was reviewing which cars it intended to produce at the factory, and that it would prefer to also build cars for other Geely brands there, such as Polestar. Sharing the plant would "be really good for us because, at the end, it's a cost that has to be carried with production volume in the factory," Samuelsson told analysts in April. Back at the helm, Samuelsson has made a number of big changes and cuts at the Swedish automaker, including cutting 3,000 white-collar jobs, launching a cost-cutting programme and slowing down investments. The Swede, who ran Volvo for over a decade until 2022, has been clear that he wants Volvo to become closer to the other Geely brands and utilise their supply chain in an effort to save costs.

Polestar 7: brand confirms where it will build high-volume crossover - and what it will be based on...
Polestar will begin production of its upcoming compact crossover, the 7, in 2028 at sibling firm Volvo's new Slovakia factory. The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding which will see Volvo's second European plant – currently under construction in Kosice – build the electric Range Rover Evoque rival, which is set to be Polestar's highest-volume model yet. It will be the brand's first European-built car; the Polestar 2 and Polestar 4 are built in parent company Geely's facilities in China - as will be the upcoming Polestar 5 sports saloon, while the larger Polestar 3 SUV is built alongside its Volvo EX90 twin in the US. Polestar has confirmed the 7 will use a 'technology base' from Volvo, which will mean it benefits "from group component sharing, cell-to-body technology with next-generation battery density and performance, as well as the next generation of in-house developed e-motors". It did not say which platform will be used, but the 7 is likely to be closely related to the upcoming third-generation Volvo EX60, which will be the first car to use the company's new 'SPA3' platform - designed from the ground up for electric vehicles, rather than being adapted from an ICE architecture. Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller has previously told Autocar, though, that irrespective of any shared components, the 7 will "behave totally like a Polestar", with the company's R&D teams working "to make sure that Polestar DNA, in terms of chassis tuning, behaviour, look and feel, comes in". Citing the stark differences between the Polestar 3 and the closely related Volvo EX90 as an example of how two cars that share a platform can still be obviously differentiated models, Lohscheller said: 'If you take the Polestar 3 and the EX90, I would argue it's executed very well. The Volvo is comfort and safety, nice and easy for the commute; the Polestar is a performance car – you feel it in how it drives. The suspension is different, the chassis tuning is different.' The company has now confirmed that "adaptations will be made" to the modular platform to ensure it offers "the driving experience and performance characteristics that Polestar is known for". Confirming the decision to use a Volvo platform and factory for his brand's new entry model, Lohscheller today said: "Working with Volvo Cars to develop and manufacture Polestar 7 in Europe is a unique opportunity that will strengthen our position in our home market. "Our strategy of utilising Group architectures as the base for our future model line-up gives us access to the best, latest technologies, in a cost-efficient manner. With a design and sporty driving characteristics that are instantly recognisable, Polestar 7 will set new standards in the premium compact SUV segment.'
