Govt's cancer screening initiative reveals 117 cases in malignant stage
1 2 Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh's medical and health department has made significant progress in its cancer screening initiative under the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) 3.0 survey. As part of the survey, the department conducted door-to-door screenings for oral, breast, and cervical cancers across the state, targeting people aged above 18 years. The survey revealed that out of 1,367 cancer suspects examined at Preventive Oncology Units (POUs), 117 individuals were diagnosed with various types of cancer in the malignant stage, while 53 cases were detected in the pre-malignant stage. The department has screened 69% of the target population across all 26 districts in the state, identifying 4.10 crore people for Oral cancer screening and screening 2.84 crore individuals. There were 1.02 crore suspect cases found by ANMs during the door-to-door screening, and 87,045 people were examined by medical officers (MOs) at the PHC level, out of which 489 individuals were examined at POUs set up at the 17 govt medical colleges in the state. There were 50,028 suspect cases, and 244 cases were examined at POUs, with 19 cases detected in the malignant stage. "People living in rural areas are turning up in good numbers for cancer screening, given they are familiar with the healthcare personnel working in their localities. However, people residing in urban areas are reluctant to provide their details as they are mistaking that these cancer screening tests are being conducted by private hospitals and suspect misuse of data," an NCD consultant overseeing the cancer screening tests told TOI. Meanwhile, health minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav reviewed the cancer screening survey result analysis with government advisor for cancer diseases and world-renowned Oncologist Dr Nori Dattatreyudu and special chief secretary (medical and health) MT Krishna Babu on Tuesday. Dr Dattatreyudu suggested the govt to immediately issue a notification notifying cancer as a notifiable disease to maintain a reporting system to keep track of the disease trends in the state. He also suggested the govt to set up a dashboard with details on the range of cancer testing and treatment services available at both govt and private hospitals in the state. Meanwhile, Krishna Babu mentioned that the state govt is developing King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam, TATA Trust Hospital, and govt general hospitals (GGHs) in Guntur, Kurnool, and Tirupati as main hubs for providing cancer care in the state.

10,230 vehicles to transport yoga participants
A total of 10,230 vehicles, including 3,200 RTC buses , were deployed to transport more than 4.5 lakh people from Vizag city, Anakapalli , Alluri Sitarama Raju, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam districts for International Yoga Day on June 21. It is noted that the authorities are making arrangements for 3.3 lakh people in 326 compartments along a 30.2 km stretch from RK Beach to Bheemili and its surroundings. Govt is attempting a World Record performance with a large number of participants. It's total target is around five lakh, including 58,000 from educational institutions, 2.5 lakh from Mepma, 50,000 from SERP, and 1.2 lakh from other districts. According to govt sources, around 2,500 auto rickshaws, 200 Tata vehicles, and others, apart from the 3,200 RTC buses, were pressed into service for the Yoga Day celebrations. DGP Harish Kumar Gupta agreed that traffic and parking are major issues. The police officials have finalised the route and action plan for traffic management with the recommendations of experts. "We are taking full-fledged measures for a hassle-free journey for the participants and general public as well," the DGP stated. Krishna Babu emphasised that officials should work together to ensure the safe transportation of attendees, including students, to the designated locations without traffic issues and safely return them to their destinations. He instructed that people coming from Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Paderu, and Anakapalli districts should be directly transported to their assigned blocks. Information about these blocks and parking details should be communicated to the relevant staff in advance.

1.86 crore citizens register at Yogandhra campaign within two weeks
Vijayawada: The month-long 'Yogandhra' awareness campaign launched by the state government to promote Yoga has received 1.86 crore registrations within just two weeks of its launch on May 21. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Under the 'Yogandhra' campaign, the state government set a target to enroll two crore citizens and had achieved 93% of the registrations by June 5. Special chief secretary (medical and health) and Yogandhra state nodal officer MT Krishna Babu submitted the status report on citizen registrations for the first two weeks to the group of ministers (GoM) on Thursday. Krishna Babu informed the GoM that, with another two weeks remaining for citizen registrations under the Yogandhra campaign, the registrations are expected to surpass the targeted two crore mark. Furthermore, the state has successfully surpassed the monthly target for the registration and training of Yoga trainers. Against the target of registering 2,600 master trainers, 5,451 (209%) have already been registered. At the mandal level, 1,47,817 trainers — accounting for 118% of the target of 1,25,000 — have been registered so far. Regarding the training of trainers, 5,451 master trainers (206% of the target) and 1,43,881 mandal trainers (115%) have been trained so far. A total of 78,730 locations have been registered across the state against the target of 1,34,991 for yoga programmes in connection with the to be celebrated on June 21. The main event will be held in Visakhapatnam, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi participating as the chief guest. Covid-19: Active tally in India crosses 4000 mark; Maharashtra reports 86 infections
Covid-19 cases in India: The number of active Covid-19 cases in India has now crossed 4000, with Maharashtra reporting 86 infections, and 108 people testing positive for Covid-19 in Gujarat, on Tuesday. In the past 24 hours, five COVID-19 deaths have been reported across India — one each in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, and two in Maharashtra, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. As of Tuesday, June 3, the total number of active COVID-19 cases in the country stands at 4,026, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's COVID-19 dashboard shows. 1. India reported 65 new Covid-19 cases, as per the health ministry's latest data on Tuesday. This marks a significant dip, as compared to yesterday's numbers, which stood at 203. 2. Gujarat reported 108 new COVID-19 cases and one death in the last 24 hours, the state health department said on Tuesday. With this, the total number of active infections in the state has risen to 461. 3. Maharashtra reported 86 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, raising the total infections since January 1 to 959, the health department said. So far, 435 patients have recovered, while active cases stand at 510. Since Monday, four deaths were reported: two in Nagpur, and one each in Chandrapur and Miraj. 4. Haryana reported 16 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, with Gurugram and Faridabad accounting for the majority—six and five cases respectively, according to the state health department. Karnal and Jhajjar reported two cases each, while one case emerged from Ambala. The state's active caseload rose to 51, up from 44 on Monday. Of these, Gurugram had the highest number with 17 active cases, followed by Faridabad with 12, Karnal with 11, Panchkula with 4, Jhajjar and Ambala with 3 each, and one case from Sonipat. 5. The deceased, 43-year-old Howrah resident, had other comorbidities, including nephrological issues and acute coronary syndrome. She died at the isolation ward of the medical establishment. 7. In Andhra Pradesh, 38 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the state over the past three weeks, the state's principal secretary for Health MT Krishna Babu told PTI. 8. Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district reported its first COVID case, after an 82-year-old woman came to Nahan Medical College and Hospital a complaint of cold and cough and was found to be positive for COVID in a rapid test. 9. Madhya Pradesh's Indore reported two new COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the city's total to 25 since January 1. One patient is a 21-year-old from Dewas who returned from Delhi on May 27, and the other is a 35-year-old local, said District Epidemiologist Dr. Anshul Mishra. 10. Presently, Kerala has 1,446 active cases, the highest in the country followed by Maharashtra with 494, Gujarat with 397 and Delhi with 393 cases, reported PTI.
