Brit stays in world's first IKEA hotel and particular detail leaves him amazed

A British travel lover visited IKEA's first boutique hotel in the Canary Islands – and he had nothing but praise for the furniture giant's new enterprise. One aspect really stood out too IKEA fans with a penchant for travel, take note: the Swedish flat-pack furniture giant is venturing into the hospitality sector. Travel expert Dave, known as Mr TravelOn on social media, has provided a glimpse into the company's new hotel in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. Taking to TikTok, Dave showed off the 27-room boutique establishment, which provides guests with dining options within very cosy and familiar surroundings. Revealing the resort is an adults-only affair, he shared in a video from the location: "It is just amazing, with the inside all decorated with IKEA, and the outside having all garden furniture around a beautiful pool that just lights up the evening. The sunbeds are all IKEA here, which is what the novelty is all about - it's such a cool idea." Upon entering his room, Dave was gobsmacked to find it decked out precisely like an IKEA showroom. "This is just amazing," he gushed, showcasing the double bed. "The IKEA rug, even IKEA lights too." He continued to praise the room's air-con and fridge, then drew attention to the desk – a hit item from IKEA's catalogue. In the washroom, Dave admired the "nice, big walk-in shower" and the "good quality" pink IKEA towels. Further impressed by the Krups coffee machine, the "nice big, fluffy blanket", and his private terrace with views of the pool, Dave couldn't help but exclaim: "That's madness." He soon returned with part 2 of his revelations, posting a video that kicked off with him tucking into the hotel's continental breakfast – minus Ikea's iconic Swedish meatballs. "It's IKEA plates, IKEA cutlery... it's IKEA everything," Dave remarked. "The continental breakfast is included in the price - you get all your coffee - and what a place to enjoy breakfast, just sitting and looking over the pool from your table." Dave then confessed he was "really impressed by the spread" as he showcased the array of meats, cheeses, fruits, and bread available. "Of course they have got all your pastries and cakes too," he added. "I got straight into all the cold-cuts and fresh salmon - a protein-filled breakfast along with a bit of bread cut with an IKEA knife of course." After popping back up for a plate brimming with fruit and nuts, Dave concluded: "This has to be one of the healthiest breakfasts I have ever had. Fresh strawberries, blueberries, dragon fruit, raspberries - which you don't normally see in the Canary Islands - and blackberries as well. It's beautiful." Yet, it wasn't the amenities, location, breakfast, or bedrooms that truly captured Dave's interest. From his review, it was clear that the standout feature was the extensive use of IKEA furnishings throughout the accommodation. After all, what's an IKEA hotel without some quintessential Scandi chic? Fancy a visit? IKEA describes the hotel on its website: "Step into this small, welcoming hotel in a busy city. "It's magnetic, yet soothing with references to nature giving off a calm warmth that energises and grounds. This modern hotel lobby and meeting area supports your guests' needs (business, leisure, both) by being casual, practical and versatile in contemporary surroundings."

'I visited world's first IKEA hotel and one detail left me gobsmacked'

A British travel lover visited IKEA's first boutique hotel in the Canary Islands – and he had nothing but praise for the furniture giant's new enterprise. One aspect really stood out too Ever walked around in an IKEA store and wished you could just stay there all night? We wouldn't blame you – as it is really tempting to sink down into one of the comfy-looking beds after a hectic day of shopping. Thankfully though, you don't need to risk the wrath of store employees to have a kip IKEa-style. That's because the Scandinavian furniture store has now branched into hotels, which are decked out in all the familiar furniture that customers have grown to love. Intrigued by this concept, a travel fan recently booked into the world's first IKEA hotel to see what all the fuss was about. ‌ Dave, known as Mr TravelOn on social media, chronicled his experiences on TikTok after booking a stay at the accommodation in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. And as soon as he walked into the 27-room boutique establishment, he seemed to be rather impressed. ‌ The hotel is adults only, promising very tranquil vibes. Further impressed by the Krups coffee machine, the "nice big, fluffy blanket", and his private terrace with views of the pool, Dave couldn't help but exclaim: "That's madness." ‌ Dave continued his tour in a second video, where he reviewed the hotel's continental breakfast. Unfortunately, the traditional Swedish meatballs weren't anywhere to be seen. However, the crockery looked very familiar and the brekkie looked pretty tasty too – as Dave showcased the array of meats, cheeses, fruits, and bread available. ‌ "It's IKEA plates, IKEA cutlery... it's IKEA everything," Dave remarked. ‘Easy to use' Tassimo coffee machine gets a price cut to less than £40

Investing in a home coffee machine can be an intimidating task, particularly for those who have never used one before. Not to mention that acquiring an espresso machine to make a fresh brew without leaving the comfort of our homes can cost a few hundred quid up front. However, Tassimo has unveiled several rather impressive deals on its coffee machines, which only require the use of pods to create a delicious morning or afternoon cuppa. All users need are some coffee pods (the machines are compatible with Tassimo's range) to create a drink that rivals the one from the indie cafe down the road. These Tassimo machines rival the likes of Nespresso's Vertuo Pop Pod Coffee Machine by Krups, which is on sale for £59.99, and Versuni PHILIPS L'OR Barista Sublime Capsule Coffee Machine, now £69.99 from £109.99, both of which operate with the touch of a button and require coffee pods. The latter can also pour a double shot, allowing it to make two cups of coffee at once if desired. This may make it a favourite with couples who enjoy a coffee together in the morning. While these deals are impressive, some of Tassimo's coffee machines are available for up to 58% off, with many costing less than £40. It is ideal for beginners to make espresso at home, according to The Mirror. For those seeking an affordable entry into the world of coffee machines without breaking the bank, the brand's Style Friendly is currently on offer for £34.99, reduced from £79.99. This compact model, measuring 265 x 171 x 320mm, is a perfect starter coffee machine for those with limited kitchen space. While it is available in three colours, the cream and white versions are slightly pricier at £39.99. The coffee machine, touted as offering 'hassle-free brewing', is constructed from 57% recycled plastic and features Intellibrew technology. This aids in the brewing process for various types of coffee, from lattes to robust espressos. There's no need for pre-heating, and, as mentioned earlier, a single button press is all it takes to brew the perfect cup - just remember to insert the pod. Meanwhile, the brand's Happy coffee machine, now £34.99 from £79.99, is slightly lighter, weighing in at 1.5kg compared to 2.6kg. With dimensions of 265 x 175 x 305 mm, this machine has won over customers for its ease of use and ability to produce 'very nice coffee'. While the cream design is a sophisticated choice that'll certainly brighten up a space and add to it without being too garish (as some appliances can be), the Happy also comes in black for a sleek and stylish look. The machine boasts an impressive 4.7-star rating, with coffee enthusiasts praising it as a 'brilliant machine' and finding it better than they expected. Another customer added: "This is my fourth Tassimo, and I would say it's the best. It seems to give a larger drink. I ordered online at a discount, and it was delivered without a problem." However, for some, it wasn't quite up to scratch. One three-star shopper said: "The machine is very basic; I should have gone for a better model." For those who prefer a more intense coffee in the morning, the brand's FINESSE Cream Coffee Machine has been discounted in the sale to £39.99, down from £89.99, shaving £50 off the original price. Available in four different colours - red, cream, white, and black - the machine is similar to the models above in terms of functionality and design. Still, it has been crafted with IntensityBoost technology, which, as the brand describes, helps users adapt the coffee intensity to their taste. Pressing the button for three seconds intensifies the flavour. Weighing in at 2.75kg and measuring 366 x 265 x 157 mm, this slightly larger model has won the hearts of Tassimo coffee enthusiasts, one of whom gave it a 5-star rating and said: "I like it a lot, the extra feature to intensify the flavour is welcomed. A big Tassimo fan now onto my fourth machine bought at a great price." While some users found the gadget's water tank 'too small' at 0.7L, others didn't share the same concern, with many hailing it as the 'best yet'. Interestingly, these three models feature a button to start the coffee brewing process on the side, where users can place their mug. However, the priciest model in the deals, which is still a pretty savvy find, has its power button just above the mug and offers several different settings to experiment with. It's crucial to remember that these coffee machines don't include a milk frother, and these offers don't always come with coffee pods. Therefore, ensure the deal with the extra pods has been selected before checking out. For a machine with a milk frother, there's the L'OR Barista Sublime, which comes with a separate milk frother and 100 capsules. Shoppers have praised it as "easy to use" and for pouring a "delicious cup of coffee". However, for shoppers not wanting froth, the Tassimo My Way 2, which usually retails at £99.99, has been reduced to £69.99. Unlike some of the previous models, this coffee machine is equipped with a BRITA filter and doesn't just provide coffee - it can also be used to create any hot drink, with tea and hot chocolate pods from Tassimo being compatible with it. With a larger water tank of 1.6L, 1500W power (compared to the usual 1400W), and dimensions of 285 x 228 x 340 mm, the machine is slightly larger and has increased capacity to produce a variety of different-sized coffees. It also features an automatic power-down to help save energy. Shoppers have been raving about the latest improvements on this gadget, with one elated customer saying in their five-star review: "This is such a step up from my old Tassimo basic coffee maker. I used to have to keep my finger pressed on the button to top up my cup, which was so annoying. "With this little beauty, I simply select the large cup, and it's sorted - a full cup every time. It is very good. I like that it makes my coffee hot, and I can have it strong or weak." However, some users noted that the initial setup was somewhat challenging due to unclear instructions. As one customer put it: "Only criticism so far concerns the graphic-only instruction sheet. The images are just not clear and understandable enough. Fully detailed written instructions in a multi-lingual and illustrated booklet would be a great improvement." In addition to its functionality, the My Way 2's style also earned praise, with a reviewer noting: "Very good looking machine, about the footprint size of a four-slice toaster. You can control the strength, temperature and size of coffee. You can store your four preferences in memory. The water reservoir is easy to fill and has a water filter. It's quiet and efficient, but most of all, it makes great coffee."
