Celtic transfer bulletin as Nicolas Kuhn sees exit chance take dramatic twist and Rodgers reveals A-list Nygren approval
Kuhn is in demand this summer after a prolific season in Glasgow's East End Celtic star Nicolas Kuhn has seen one of his suitors agree a deal for an alternative target. Former Bayern Munich man Kuhn is said to be on Serie A side Como's radar following their successful 10th place finish in Italy's top tier last season in their first year back in the big time since 2002. Kuhn netted 21 goals in all competitions for the Hoops, including a brace against RB Leipzig in the Champions League, and the Bundesliga club are also said to be weighing up an approach for the 25-year-old, who the Hoops are said to value at £17million. But reports in Italy say Como's search for a new wide man has taken them elsewhere. Cesc Fabregas' side are also pursuing AZ Alkmaar star Jayden Addai and a €14million deal has been verbally agreed to take the Dutch youngster to Lombardy. Addai is now on his way to Italy for a medical, with an official announcement on the transfer expected soon. Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers has revealed he sought out ex Chelsea star Michael Essien before sealing a deal for Sweden star Benjamin Nygren. The Irishman worked alongside the Ghana legend during his spell as a youth coach at Stamford Bridge and says he spoke to the FC Nordsjælland number two to get some insight on the £1.5million signing. Speaking to Celtic TV, he said: "I was in contact with a friend of mine there who was a top midfield player, Michael Essien. Michael works there and he spoke really, really highly of Benjamin. "I know, having spoken to him (Nygren) and seen him play, he's a leader on the pitch and he produces in terms of the goals he scores, what he creates." Greg Taylor shuts Kris Boyd down over Rangers allegiance taunt as Celtic transfer window explodes with four deals
Taylor was teased over a potential allegiance switch but wasn't having it Kris Boyd teased Greg Taylor over his boyhood Rangers allegiances – but the left-back says he's officially a convert for life. Taylor officially signed for PAOK today bringing an end to six years as a Celtic player after his contract expired at the end of last season. He won 11 trophies during his time there and penned an emotional love letter to fans saying it's been an 'honour' from day one. But now he's no longer a Parkhead player, it didn't take Boyd, who played with Taylor at Kilmarnock, long to stick his head above the parapet. In a wink to Taylor's boyhood support of his old team Rangers, he wrote in the replies: "Back to supporting the famous now?" But Taylor quickly replied: "Not a chance! World's most successful team for me." Elsewhere, Como have reportedly cooled their interest in Celtic star Nicolas Kuhn after identifying an alternative transfer target. The German winger is said to be on the radar of the Serie A club along with Bundesliga powerhouses RB Leipzig, with the latter reportedly lining up a £15million bid for the former Bayern Munich kid. Despite his form dipping in the second half of the season, Kuhn enjoyed a stellar campaign for Brendan Rodgers' side, registering 21 goals and 15 assists in 51 appearances in all competitions. But according to reputed Italian transfer guru Gianluca DiMarzio, Como - who finished 10th in Serie A last season in their first year back in the top-flight since 2003 - AZ Alkmaar's teen wide man Jayden Addai has jumped ahead of Kuhn on Cesc Fabregas' wishlist. The Lombardy side are also keen on a deal for former Hoops treble winner Carl Starfelt, who currently plays for Celta Vigo in La Liga. Meanwhile, Brighton striker Evan Ferguson has had his price tag slashed by the Seagulls - according to a report. The 20-year-old has been linked with a loan move to Celtic in the past and spent the second half of last season with West Ham United. The Republic of Ireland reportedly was slapped with a staggering £100million valuation by Brighton during the 2022/23 season amid interest from top Premier League sides after bursting onto the scene with 10 goals in 25 league appearances. But Football Insider now claim that Fabian Hurzeler's team will be willing to sell the forward this summer for as little as £28million. Ferguson is under contract at the AMEX Stadium until 2029. And finally, Daniel Cummings has officially confirmed his departure at Parkhead, with the Scotland youth international poised to join West Ham under freedom of contract, although the Premiership champions will be entitled to a development fee. Writing on Instagram, he said: "After 13 years at my boyhood club. Today I have officially left Celtic. "I just want to say a massive thank you to all the coaches/staff and everyone associated with the club, It has been a pleasure. "Another massive thank you to all the boys, It has been a great journey and I have made memories for life. "I wish the club and everyone else the best of luck in the future. Hail Hail." Nicolas Kuhn to RB Leipzig transfer reaches 'advanced stage' as Celtic told minimum fee for winger
Talks between Celtic to sell Nicolas Kuhn to RB Leipzig are reportedly "at an advanced stage." The German winger finished the campaign with an impressive 21 goals and 15 assists in 51 matches in all competitions despite struggling to show top form in the second half of the campaign. Advertisement But the slump in the second half of the campaign hasn't stopped suitors queuing up for the signature of the 25-year-old with Newcastle United and Leipzig said to be keen on a deal this summer. READ MORE: Bojan Miovski transfer rules put Celtic on notice as Maeda doubles down and £9m defender timeline set READ MORE: Ryan Reynolds to pounce on former Celtic target as £40m agreement sparks transfer merry-go-round Reports have suggest that the Scottish Premiership champions have placed a £15million price tag on the forward and Kicker report that negotiations are 'now at an advanced stage' between the Hoops and the Bundesliga side. Advertisement The report notes that that the market boffins at Transfermarkt value Kuhn at €12million (£10.2million) but as the wide man has a contract that runs until 2029 the "transfer fee is likely to be at least in line with the market value" but is likely to be "significantly higher." Former Celtic hero Chris Sutton reckons the Parkhead powerbrokers may struggle to even land that fee for Kuhn - as he warned the wide man he should stay for another year in Glasgow's east end. Writing in his Record Sport column, he said: 'I have my doubts Celtic would get £15m for the German this summer, for a start. He struggled at first in Scotland as he struggled having lost weight with those dental problems. 'He was sensational in the first half of the season and looked a certainty to clean up the player of the year awards. Advertisement 'Yet he did go off the boil a bit following the Bayern Munich game and it does pose questions about his consistency. 'Are teams going to cough up big money on the back of a spectacular six months? They might do, but I'm not so sure. "Newcastle United were credited with interest back in January but I can't see him shifting the likes of Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon. 'It just seems like the wrong time to be even considering selling, though. I think "Celtic will struggle to get top dollar and yet I believe he will be worth more down the line. 'Kuhn isn't ready for me. Sometimes you get the feeling a player has reached the natural stage where the next step is inevitable.' Nicolas Kuhn to RB Leipzig transfer latest as Celtic reject bid for striker
German giants RB Leipzig have yet to firm up their interest in Nicolas Kuhn. The Bundesliga cracks have the 21-goal winger on their transfer wishlist this summer. Reports in Germany had suggested Leipzig had been in "advanced talks" with Celtic over a deal. Advertisement READ MORE: Greg Taylor makes final Celtic transfer exit decision as free agent selects his next club READ MORE: Celtic transfer window explodes with five deals in motion from Como 'talks' over Kuhn to £5.1m defender 'offer' But Record Sport understands there has been no official bid tabled for the 25-year-old attacker. Celts are in no rush to sell Kuhn and are in a strong bargaining position, with the ex-Rapid Vienna star under contract until 2029. The Hoops Double-winner is on the radar of several European clubs, with Italian Serie A side Como the latest to be linked. However, Kuhn is expected to report back to Lennoxtown for pre-season training and as things stand, remains a key part of Brendan Rodgers' plans. Johnny Kenny celebrates his goal for Celtic -Credit:PA Kenny, 22, spent a prolific spell on loan with Shamrock Rovers last season before returning to Parkhead in January. He spent the second half of the campaign on the fringes behind Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah, but did net his first goal for the club in a 5-1 rout at Pittodrie. The frontman has admirers down south and it's believed the Trotters launched a bid to prize him to EFL League One. But the opening offer was swiftly rejected by Parkhead chiefs. It remains to be seen whether Wanderers will come back with an improved proposal. Hatate and Kuhn fired ominous Celtic message as Kyogo case study shows the reality of transfer gamble
Parkhead legend Paul Lambert isn't convinced now is the right time for the pair to leave Paul Lambert has told Nicolas Kuhn and Reo Hatate to think twice before chasing big-money moves - because the grass isn't always greener. In-demand winger Kuhn has been heavily linked with a £15million switch to RB Leipzig, while Italian outfit Como have also shown interest in the German wide man. Midfielder Hatate, meanwhile, has admirers in Serie A with Udinese weighing up a summer swoop. But while the duo are hot property, Celtic legend Lambert isn't convinced either has done enough to earn a blockbuster transfer just yet. On Kuhn's future, he told Record Sport: "As a Celtic player, you have to be consistent. You need to hit eight out of 10s every week, more or less. "And when you don't do it, then you'll probably hear it from the supporters. "He was brilliant in the first half of the season, but the season doesn't last half a year. It's a year, so you've got to perform consistently. "You can't turn around and say, 'I'm only going to play half a year.' If that were the case, then everybody would still be playing. "Nobody can dispute that he was really good in the first half of the season - but do it for the full year." Kuhn looked unstoppable at times last term, bagging 21 goals and 15 assists across all competitions. But the 25-year-old's form dipped after the New Year. Lambert said: "There's no doubting his ability, but he's only done it for 18 months. I think there's more in him. "Does he have a point to prove? Yeah, I think he and Hatate are both the same. "They won't find a higher demand than Celtic to try and get results - that's for sure." Hatate, 27, is entering his fifth season at Parkhead and has never hidden his desire to test himself in a bigger league. But the Japan international - who is recovering from a knee injury - splits opinion among the Celtic support. Lambert said: "I don't know about him, I'm not sure he's hitting the heights of what he should be hitting. 'Everyone can say they want to play in a top-five league, but you've got to keep proving it. "I think he's tailed off a bit with consistency in playing for a club like Celtic. I think he needs to get that back into his game. "I think he's a decent enough player - but nobody's bigger than the club, that's always the case. The club will always go on. "If Brendan thinks it's the right decision to move him on or keep him, Brendan will know because he's a top manager. "My concern for him is that he has to get back to the form that he showed when he first came in." Lambert believes both Kuhn and Hatate would be taking a huge gamble by quitting Celtic now - pointing to Kyogo 's struggles at Rennes as a cautionary tale. He added: 'Celtic are in the driving seat. Celtic as a club are really stable. They are really focused to win and do well in Europe again. 'They're still under contract for a while yet, so Celtic hold the ace cards and can demand as much or as little as they want. 'Celtic have given them a platform to go and perform, so the club's been great with them. They have to repay the club as they have done for a certain period of time - but you've got to give more than just that. 'If Kuhn goes to Leipzig... yes, he knows the native language, but he might go to Leipzig and not get a game, just like Kyogo in France. So I think you've got to be careful what you wish for. I really do. 'These two lads are playing regularly at Celtic. They are playing Champions League football where the eyes of the world are on you – and if you perform there, then you make a bigger mark than anything. 'So I think you've got to be careful what you wish for at times.'
