Vanuatu Win Final Group Game But Lose Out On Semi-Final Place To Fiji

With Solomon Islands winning 5-0 over Tonga in the first game of the day, Vanuatu knew that they needed to win by at least two goals in order to secure a semi-final place, while Fiji needed just a point to secure top spot in Group B. The Kulas were buoyed by the return of Trina Davis to the starting lineup, and Davis immediately made her presence known with her pace down the right wing. However, they were rocked early on when captain Jotivini Tabua was sent off in the 19th minute for violent conduct after a challenge with Nellie Vuti. Vanuatu goal machine Leimata Simon scored the only goal of the game with a wonderful strike in the 31st minute. Spotting Emily Esposito off her line, Simon had the strength and composure to set herself up and arrow her shot into the top right corner, cementing her place at the top of the golden boot standings and turning up the pressure on the hosts, who were now a player and a goal down. Five minutes before half time Nasau almost brought Fiji level with a wonder goal, sweetly striking a half volley from a tight angle, which just sailed over the bar. Both sides had opportunities in the second half, but neither were able to make them count. Fiji's best opportunity came early in the half through Davis, using her pace to latch onto a long ball, but Vanuatu goalkeeper Amelia Reddy was wise to the danger and off her line quickly to shut the forward down, who opted to shoot rather than play in second half substitute Narieta Leba. Simon was fouled in the 87th minute, seemingly handing Vanuatu their last real opportunity to get into the semi-finals. Henriette Sangul's free kick sailed harmlessly over Esposito's crossbar. Vanuatu threw players forward in search of the goal that would take them into the semi-finals, but despite having had the numerical advantage for most of the game they were unable to find the goal they needed. Fiji, meanwhile, while relieved to have survived, must now play Papua New Guinea in a rematch of the OFC Women's Nations Cup 2022 final. Solomon Islands finish top of Group B and will take on Samoa in the semi-finals of the OFC Women's Nations Cup 2025, Vanuatu will play Tahiti in the 5th place play off, and Tonga will take on the Cook Islands for the 7th place play off.

Kenilworth mansion listed for $15M, becoming the highest-priced listing in that village's history

An historic six-bedroom Colonial Revival-style mansion on Lake Michigan in Kenilworth was listed on Wednesday for $15 million, making it the north suburban village's highest-priced listing in history. Builder Paul Starrett, who constructed the Empire State Building in New York and the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., built the three-story, 7,341-square-foot lakefront mansion in Kenilworth in 1906. Owner Yoanna Kulas, who is the founder and owner of the design firm Caladrius Studio, bought the mansion for $4.5 million in 2020 and initiated a top-to-bottom renovation, working with architect Michael Abraham and Mick De Giulio, who oversaw the interior architecture and designs. In an interview, Kulas told Elite Street that the mansion is a 'treasure from a bygone era,' and that she wanted to honor the mansion's legacy by preserving its historic architecture while keeping it relevant as a high-tech, smart home. So Kulas restored the facade and updated the kitchen, which is now minimalist with discreetly concealed appliances. The mansion also has six full bathrooms, two half baths, two fireplaces, restored original moldings, oak sawn floors, custom wrought-iron railings, millwork, new mechanical systems, a new roof, new windows, a smart home system, custom LED lighting and zoned climate control. The mansion also has a primary bedroom suite with a spa-like bathroom with an oversized tub, and a custom-designed wardrobe room with custom leather accents and inserts. The lower level has a wine cellar, a theater with surround sound, a catering kitchen and a wellness area containing a sauna, a steam room, an exercise area and a massage room. Outside on the half-acre property are a 115-foot sandy beach, a fire pit area, a glass-enclosed patio, a boathouse and multiple terraces. 'The first time I saw this property, I fell I love with the architecture and the beautiful views most of all — the unobstructed vistas and views,' Kulas told Elite Street. 'When I started to think about it, this house has survived so many years and so many things. Clearly, it needed some love. So we opened the walls and opened the views to bring as much light as possible. The (home) was a little darker, so I opened the wall, installed the biggest possible windows. Honestly, the beauty of this home — whenever I am here, I see gorgeous views of the lake, the trees and the vintage planters. I love history and old buildings.' Listing agent Jena Radnay of @properties Christie's International Real Estate told Elite Street that her client 'approached every detail with deep respect for the home's legacy, the community and her neighbors.' 'It would have been easier to start from scratch with new construction — as many do with older North Shore homes — but she chose to preserve a piece of Kenilworth history.' Kenilworth's highest sale price on record is the $11.75 million sale of a Sheridan Road mansion in 2020.

Robo-Hornets make fourth trip to world championships

HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A local high school robotics team is proving that small rural schools can compete amongst some of the very best youth innovators in the world. Harpursville High School's acclaimed robotics team, the 'Robo-Hornets,' recently returned home from the VEX Robotics World Championship in Texas. 885 teams from all over the world competed in the three-day tournament. The Robo-Hornets made it to the Final 16, ultimately losing in the elimination round. The team qualified for the competition after winning the state title earlier this year. Kalen Kulas is a freshman at Harpursville High School. This is his first year on the robotics team. He said competing in the world championship was nerve-wracking but also very exciting. 'It was really surprising. At states, I didn't expect to make it to worlds. I was more than happy making it to States. I had a great time there, and right at the end, I figured out I'd be able to go because I won the Excellence Award, and that was crazy,' said Kulas. This is the fourth year the Robo-Hornets have qualified for the world championships. Advisor and Coach Bruce Salisbury has been working with the team for ten years. He says he says he is so proud of the students' hard work and dedication that it makes him emotional. He says the kids and their success always come first. 'They constantly work, just their devotion to doing the best that they can. One person at worlds made the announcement that 'You guys are here because we know you give up your weekends, your holidays. The advisors are there late in the hours.' And everybody looked at me and said, 'Yes, that's describing me,' because the kids come first,' said Salisbury. The Robo-Hornets' record this year was 7-3. The team is already working on their robots for next year's season.
