Two weeks after election, Mohali MLA Kulwant quits as PCA secretary
Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh, who was elected secretary for the first time in the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), has resigned from the post. I am committed to serving the public and want to devote time to this work.' Having a long run in politics, the AAP MLA's innings in cricket management was not very long. With assets worth ₹251 crore, he is the richest MLA of Punjab. He was nominated for the secretary's post by the Gurdaspur Cricket Association and elected without any opposition. Now to fill the vacant post, PCA will have to call elections again, within 15 days. For starters, a meeting of the PCA Apex Council will be called, where members will be apprised of the resignation. In the same meeting, the electoral officer will be appointed. The name of the winner will be announced by calling a special general meeting.

BSF jawan recently a part of ‘Op Sindoor' dies in road accident
Raipur: Tragedy struck in Jashpur as Kulwant Panna (35), a BSF jawan recently returned from Operation Sindoor, died in a while on leave. The accident occurred on May 27 near Ginabahar in the Kunkuri police station area when his scooter lost control and crashed into a culvert pillar. He was recently deployed as part of 'Operation Sindoor', a mission undertaken amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan after Pahalgam terrorist attack. According to police, Kulwant was traveling from his home to his in-laws' house in Duldula to visit his wife when the accident happened on Tuesday. He suffered serious head and leg injuries in the crash. Upon receiving the news, his brothers Jonic Panna and Asit Panna rushed to the scene. With help from local villagers, Kulwant was first taken to the Kunkuri Government Hospital, and later referred to Holy Cross Hospital due to the severity of his condition but he succumbed during treatment. The death of the jawan sent shockwaves through the community. Fellow BSF personnel who were also home on leave, reached the hospital upon hearing the news. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated a detailed investigation, according to Additional SP Anil Kumar Soni. Kulwant's final rites were performed in his native village Bartoli, where he was given a Guard of Honour. His village and family mourn the loss of a soldier remembered not only for his service but for his humility, sense of duty, and helpful nature.

Retd ASI ‘tries to shoot' son in UT, booked
Chandigarh: The UT Policehas registered a case against a retired ASI of Punjab Police for allegedly attempting to shoot his son with a revolver. The incident took place on Thursday night in Khuda Ali Sher village. The son escaped unhurt. In his complaint to police, the son, Kulwant Singh, 48, said he is a yoga instructor at College of Yoga Education and Health in Sector 23 here. He said he has two sons, aged seven and three-and-a-half. After the passing of his wife in Sept 2022, he hired a female caretaker in Oct 2024 to help with household responsibilities. However, he alleged that his father would often behave disrespectfully with the caretaker. He said his father, Kundan Singh, frequently consumed alcohol and abused him. The situation escalated on May 21, when an argument broke out at their home while Kulwant was heating milk. His father, reportedly intoxicated and speaking abusively on the phone, became enraged when Kulwant asked him to stop. During the altercation, a glass was accidentally broken, causing a hand injury to Kundan Singh. tnn The conflict took a dangerous turn when Kundan Singh allegedly retrieved his revolver and fired at the door of Kulwant's room, believing he was inside. Fearing for his life, Kulwant fled the house. When he returned later, he discovered a bullet hole in the door frame and called the police at 112. Upon receiving the report, officers from Sector 11 police station inspected the scene and recovered a fired bullet shell. They also seized a revolver and 12 live bullets from the house. A case was registered against Kundan Singh under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the BNS. Retired Punjab Police cop shoots at son in drunken fit in Chandigarh
A retired Punjab Police assistant sub-inspector allegedly shot at his son following a heated argument on the night of May 21. The complainant, 48-year-old Kulwant Singh, who works as a yoga instructor at the College of Yoga Education and Health, Sector 23, Chandigarh, accused his 74-year-old father, Kundan Singh, of firing at him in a fit of rage. According to Kulwant's detailed police statement, the incident took place around 7.30 pm when he was in the kitchen heating milk for his two young sons—aged seven and three. When Kulwant asked him to stop, his father reportedly got angrier. In the commotion, the glass in Kundan's hand broke, injuring his thumb. Sensing danger, Kulwant immediately fled the house. Moments later, Kundan allegedly fired a shot in the direction of Kulwant's room, believing his son was hiding there. However, the bullet struck the door frame, and no injuries were reported. Kulwant promptly called the police on the emergency helpline number 112. During the investigation, police recovered a licensed revolver (.32 bore) from the premises, along with 12 live cartridges and one fired shell. As of now, no arrest has been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
