U'khand cop enters bench press final at World Police Games, bags bronze in qualifier

Rudrapur: Mukesh Pal, a sub-inspector with Uttarakhand Police, has won a bronze medal in the 105kg bench press qualifier round at the ongoing World Police and Fire Games(WPFG) in Birmingham, US, securing a place in the finals on Sunday. Speaking from the US, Pal said, "This bronze is just the beginning. I'm determined to turn it into gold in the final. My best is yet to come." Pal's journey to the global stage has been marked by challenges, especially after a serious hand injury threatened to end his sporting career. Undeterred, he showed remarkable grit, continuing the legacy of his previous triumph in Colombia, where he upgraded from bronze to gold. News of his victory sparked celebrations in Uttarakhand, particularly in his hometown Haldwani, where locals, colleagues, and supporters expressed confidence that he would repeat the feat. Inspector general of police (Kumaon Range), Ridhim Aggarwal, praised Pal's perseverance: "His achievement is a moment of immense pride for Uttarakhand Police.
