RCA ad hoc panel explores Nathdwara stadium as SMS ground access remains uncertain
Jaipur: Uncertainty over the availability of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Stadium has prompted the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) ad hoc committee to explore alternative venues, including the international cricket stadium by Miraj group in Nathdwara. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The committee, led by convenor DD Kumawat and comprising members Pinkesh Porwal and Mohit Yadav, inspected the Miraj ground on Saturday to evaluate its potential for hosting major cricket events. The Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC) had a few days ago issued a letter to the ad hoc panel, requesting the submission of a match schedule to secure access to SMS Stadium and RCA Academy ground. Additionally, the RSSC highlighted an outstanding payment of Rs 67 lakh, urging RCA to clear the dues promptly to ensure continued access to these facilities. Amid these challenges, the committee's visit to Nathdwara was spurred by a proposal from Miraj stadium management to host BCCI's 2025-26 domestic cricket tournaments, RCA's domestic competitions and training camps. The inspection covered critical infrastructure, including the cricket ground, pitch, pavilion, media box, match officials' facilities, VVIP zone, and spectator gallery. Convenor Kumawat expressed satisfaction with the stadium's high-quality facilities, noting their alignment with RCA's requirements. The committee also held detailed discussions with the stadium's management regarding a potential Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with RCA. "Our priority is to advance cricket development in Rajasthan and provide young players with access to world-class infrastructure," said Kumawat. "We are working to finalise the MOU with Miraj stadium at the earliest to ensure our players have a premier platform to showcase their talent."

Rajasthan Villagers Say After They Questioned Minister, Officials Tried to Cut Water, Electricity
In a video of the incident, a local is heard saying, 'Yesterday, we village residents had kept our issues before Minister Joraram and today, he has sent a PHED team to cut connections and trouble us'. New Delhi: Locals from a village in the Sumerpur assembly constituency in Rajasthan's Pali district have alleged that MLA and cabinet Joraram Kumawat sent officials to their village on Sunday (July 13) to disconnect their water and electricity connections. The locals have alleged that Kumawat took the action after people in his assembly constituency had questioned the minister about dirty roads during the former's visit to the Panchayat Bhawan in Gurdai Sumerpur for the foundation stone and inauguration of several development projects, reported Indian Express. As the public questioned Kumawat, who is the cabinet minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy, Gopalan and Devasthan departments, some of his supporters and local public representatives tried to intervene. When they said that the minister had other engagements, it further enraged the locals and Kumawat left without giving an address. 'Sunday morning, teams were sent to cut water and electricity connections claiming that we had illegal connections. We have taken connections at home, how is it illegal? If you think it's illegal, give us notice. We have had a water connection for five years,' advocate Kiran Kumar Meena, a local told the newspaper. Meena added that he was the main target as he had the memorandum and was speaking before the minister. In a video of the incident, a local is heard saying, 'Yesterday, we village residents had kept our issues before Minister Joraram and today, he has sent a PHED team to cut connections and trouble us'. 'I am a common man … We have a dhani (hutment) of about 200 homes of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. When the honourable minister came yesterday, we wanted to tell him that the roof of our local school is leaking, that we don't have a CC (cement concrete) road and wanted to give him a memorandum. However, the minister and his supporters did not take our memorandum and pushed us out, saying that he has another engagement,' said Meena. The opposition Congress has slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the incident, accusing the party's government in the state of failing to provide basic facilities to the public. Responding to the accusations against the district administration, district Collector Laxmi Narain Mantri told The Indian Express that he would 'talk to the honourable minister', and added, 'We are administrative officers; we do what is due to us.' In Rajasthan village, locals say power, water cut for asking minister tough questions during visit
After Rajasthan Cabinet Minister Joraram Kumawat faced 'uncomfortable' questions from some locals in his constituency during a programme, locals have alleged that officials were sent to their village Sunday to disconnect their water and electricity connections allegedly for embarrassing the minister. On Saturday, Kumawat, the cabinet minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy, Gopalan and Devasthan departments had reached the Panchayat Bhawan in Gurdai in his Assembly constituency Sumerpur in Pali district for the foundation stone and inauguration of several development projects. However, citing dirty roads in the village, some locals started questioning the minister. They said that the construction of roads had not started and this had led to dirt and filth. Some of the minister's supporters and local public representatives tried to intervene and said that the minister had other engagements, further enraging the locals and the minister left without giving an address. On Sunday, local officials from water and electricity departments were allegedly sent to cut connections in Gurdai. In one of the viral videos, a local is heard saying that; 'Yesterday, we village residents had kept our issues before Minister Joraram and today, he has sent a PHED team to cut connections and trouble us'. Talking to The Indian Express, the man behind the video, advocate Kiran Kumar Meena, 23, said that: 'I am a common man … We have a dhani (hutment) of about 200 homes of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. When the honourable minister came yesterday, we wanted to tell him that the roof of our local school is leaking, that we don't have a CC (cement concrete) road and wanted to give him a memorandum. However, the minister and his supporters did not take our memorandum and pushed us out, saying that he has another engagement'. It was given a political angle, he claimed. 'Sunday morning, teams were sent to cut water and electricity connections claiming that we had illegal connections. We have taken connections at home, how is it illegal? If you think it's illegal, give us notice. We have had a water connection for five years,' Meena said, adding that he was the main target 'as I had the memorandum and I was speaking (before the minister)'. 'I am merely fighting for my rights. And fighting for my rights is my right too,' he said, 'The electricity department officials too said that my connection is illegal. I said that I pay my bills and it is my 45-year-old ancestral home. The police officials also said that this is a BJP government and if you are going to protest in this manner before a minister then you will be sent to jail.' He went on to say: 'But if we won't tell our minister then whom will we tell? The minister should know that if he has become the minister, he should help people instead of sending officials after us and showing power in this manner'. He said that he is being targeted by local BJP local leaders 'because we are SC, STs and so they think we are Congress leaning, but we are just common citizens and we are following what Babsaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar told us'. Terming the action as 'BJP's dictatorship' and sharing the video of the incident, the Congress party said Sunday: 'Today, on the minister's orders, the electricity and water connections of the villagers are being cut off. They are being punished for asking questions.' Meena said he had recorded the video 'because BJP workers and government officials had been mentally torturing me since yesterday. So, I recorded a video to protect myself.' He said that eventually, as more and more locals gathered in his support, the concerned engineers left the spot, without disconnecting anything, and after getting calls from their seniors. Minister Kumawat could not be reached for comments. On Saturday, he had said that some Congress workers had entered and opposed him at the inauguration programme but that he had given instructions to officials to clean the roads in question and draw up a proposal to construct the roads too. On the accusations against the district administration, District Collector Laxmi Narain Mantri said, 'talk to the honourable minister', and added, 'We are administrative officers; we do what is due to us.' Meanwhile, Lok Sabha MP Hanuman Beniwal, smarting from electricity disconnection at his Nagaur residence — registered in the name of his brother – over unpaid dues, Sunday shared a bill purportedly showing unpaid electricity dues of Energy Minister Heeralal Nagar. According to the online bill copy shared by the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) supremo, Nagar owes as much as Rs 2.17 lakh to Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited. 'Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones at others,' Beniwal said. Minister Nagar did not respond to calls.

ACB nabs asst town planner taking bribe
Jaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Wednesday caught Kaushal Kumawat, assistant town planner of Nagaur Municipal Council, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh. As the amount was substantial, the ACB arranged for dummy notes as part of the trap. Smita Srivastava, additional director general (ADG) of ACB, said that the agency received a complaint alleging that Kumawat demanded Rs 5 lakh to provide a favourable technical report for a warehouse and cold storage registered in the complainant's nephew's name. "We verified the demand and found it to be genuine. During the verification process, the suspect officer agreed to accept a reduced amount of Rs 4 lakh," said the officer. Acting on this, a trap was laid. The team, led by the additional superintendent of police, Kalpana Solanki, caught Kumawat in the act. Of the Rs 4 lakh, Rs 20,000 was real currency, and the remaining Rs 3,80,000 was in dummy notes. ACB has initiated proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is in progress. TNN

Two accused in Parliament security breach case granted bail
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted bail to two persons accused in the 2023 Parliament security breach case, Bar and Bench reported. A bench of Justices Subramonium Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar allowed petitions filed by Neelam Azad and Mahesh Kumawat for bail in the case, which was reserved on May 21, Live Law reported. The bail was subject to Azad and Kumawat furnishing a bail bond of Rs 50,000 each and two sureties. The two were also barred from holding press conferences or giving interviews, and posting anything on social media about the incident. The matter pertained to two men, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, jumping into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery and opening gas canisters on December 13, 2023. Outside Parliament, Azad and a man – Amol Dhanraj Shinde – had opened smoke canisters and shouted 'stop dictatorship' slogans. All four were arrested in connection with the breach. A day later, the police arrested Lalit Jha, allegedly the mastermind behind the incident, and Kumawat, a co-accused. The police charged all six under provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. Azad moved the High Court in September 2024 against a city court denying her bail, while Kumawat also filed an appeal in November against the rejection of his bail petition, the Hindustan Times reported. During earlier proceedings, Azad and Kumawat told the court that the police had wrongly invoked the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act against them, adding that their alleged actions did not construe an act of terrorism. Azad said that her conduct did not amount to an act of terror as she had entered the premises using a valid pass and without weapons, the Hindustan Times reported. Kumawat said that his intention was to draw attention towards certain issues having democratic and political importance. However, the police argued that the breach coincided with the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, which was enough to prove that the intention of those accused in the matter was likely to strike terror or threaten the security of the country. On December 13, 2001, terrorists entered the Parliament complex and began shooting with AK-47 rifles. The attack had left nine persons dead. The police also submitted that those accused in the case wanted to bring back 'haunted memories' of the 2001 attack to the 'majestic' new Parliament building, Live Law reported. The bench, however, asked whether an offence under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act could be made out against those accused. It added that if using smoke canisters were a terrorist act, then every Holi and Indian Premier League match would also attract such provisions, Live Law reported.
