Chheoki rly station to be developed as terminal before Kumbh 2031

1 2 Prayagraj: In anticipation of the massive turnout expected for the 2031 Kumbh Mela, Indian Railways is fast-tracking the development of Chheoki Railway Station into a major terminal. A comprehensive proposal has already been submitted to the Railway Board for approval. According to Himanshu Shukla, senior divisional commercial manager of Prayagraj Division of North Central Railway (NCR), "A detailed proposal has been submitted for Chheoki's development into a terminal, with a clear goal to complete the project before the 2031 Kumbh." The 2025 Maha Kumbh witnessed an overwhelming rush at Chheoki, offering critical lessons in crowd and traffic management. In response, the Railways has finalised a blueprint to transform Chheoki into a full-fledged terminal for Prayagraj. As part of the upgrade, the station will have 10 platforms, all equipped with modern electronic display boards. The station complex will include a large waiting area, expanded foot overbridges (FOBs), new passenger sheds, retiring rooms and a well-equipped food plaza to improve the passenger experience. Currently, Chheoki has six platforms, but expansion work is in progress to increase this number to eight. Two new platforms were already approved, and a proposal for two more was submitted. Alongside this, a third railway line between Prayagraj and Mumbai was already sanctioned, which will further facilitate smooth and efficient train movement — especially important for managing the high volume of special trains during Kumbh 2031.
