The broadcaster has added the movie, which was first released in 1982, to its streaming platform ITVX. Named The Thing, the movie quickly became one of the most influential science-fiction films following its release. It stars Kurt Rusell, A. Wilfred Brimley and Keith David as a group of American explorers in Antarctica discovered extraterrestrial life. The movie is based on the 1938 novel by John W. Campbell Jr. titled 'Who Goes There?' During the movie, which boasts an 85 per cent Rotten Tomatoes score, the explorers learn how the alien life is able to infiltrate the bodies of other human beings, taking over their vessels without being detected. However, after the movie was released on DVD and began airing across terrestrial television, it quickly became a fan-favourite, cementing itself as a legendary movie. A synopsis for the film on ITVX reads: 'Shape-shifting aliens & era-defining special effects! 80s sci-fi mystery starring Kurt Russell. A research team is hunted by an alien that can resemble its victims.' The streaming platform has also slapped a warning on the title too, advising potential viewers it has 'strong gory violence & strong language'. The Thing has had glowing reviews, with saying: 'Every October, I revisit John Carpenter's 'The Thing' to celebrate the month of Halloween, and every year I arrive at the same conclusion: it's one of the most effective horror films ever made.' Loud And Clear Reviews stated: 'In my eyes, The Thing is as perfect as a movie can get: it knows exactly what it wants to be and what it's trying to do, and succeeds on every level I can conceive.' Since its release over four decades ago, a prequel of the same name was released in 2011, starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Ulrich Thomsen, Kim Bubbs and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Meanwhile, a critically acclaimed crime thriller 'you need to watch immediately' has finally hit Netflix - and is hailed as 'a masterpiece'. The TV show, Sneaky Pete, hit our screens on the streaming service Amazon Prime Video back in 2015. The series aired 30 episodes over three successful series until 2019. It stars Giovnni Ribisi as Marius Josipović / Pete Murphy, Marin Ireland as Julia Bowman, Shane McRae as Taylor Bowman, Libe Barer as Carly Bowman and Michael Drayer as Eddie Josipović. Although the show wrapped up six years ago, fans will be happy to know that they can watch the full series on Netflix. The streaming service's synopsis reads: 'A con man (Giovanni Ribisi) on the run from a vicious gangster (Bryan Cranston) takes cover from his past by assuming the identity of his prison cellmate, Pete, 'reuniting' with Pete's estranged family, a colorful, dysfunctional group that threatens to drag him into a world just as dangerous as the one he's trying to escape - and, just maybe, give him a taste of the loving family he's never had.'

3 best sci-fi movies on Prime Video right now
Looking for something intellectual to chew on? Prime Video's sci-fi movies section is bigger than ever, but with so many titles flooding in regularly, you might have trouble figuring out what to watch first. While flashy blockbusters and well-known franchises tend to hog the spotlight, there's a deep bench of underrated, thought-provoking science fiction films that deserve your time. Some of those may very well be blockbusters on their own, like "Interstellar" — but when's the last time you took a moment to appreciate them? Whether you're into alternate realities, time loop mind-benders or eerie glimpses of the future, there are tons of gems on the platform to dig into. Here are three of the best sci-fi movies on Prime Video that you can stream right now. "Stargate" (the movie, not the series) kicks off with one of the most intriguing premises in sci-fi: What if an ancient alien device unearthed in Egypt turned out to be a gateway to another planet? When one milquetoast linguist (James Spader) deciphers the symbols on the mysterious artifact, he's swept up into a top-secret military expedition led by a gritty, no-nonsense colonel (Kurt Russell). On the other side of the stargate lies a distant world that resembles ancient Egypt, ruled by a powerful alien posing as a god. And it's this ragtag team's mission to understand it, come hell or high water. Watch "Stargate" on Prime Video now "Coherence" begins as a casual dinner party between old friends but spirals into chaos when a comet passes overhead and warps reality itself. The power flickers and phone signals vanish, and the group of friends slowly begins to realize that their neighborhood may now contain multiple versions of themselves, each making different choices in diverging timelines. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. What follows is a race to determine who's who, who's a potential other, and what their other selves' true motives are. What's more, how do they get back to normal and to their "normal" world? This mind-bending cult favorite will keep you guessing until the very end. Watch "Coherence" on Prime Video now In a future where Earth is slowly becoming uninhabitable, former NASA pilot Joseph Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) is recruited for a last-ditch mission. His job is to travel through a wormhole in search of a new home for mankind. No pressure, right? What begins as a seemingly benign spacefaring journey quickly becomes something deeper as Cooper realizes nearly two decades have passed during his journey. He must come to terms with his startling findings and the future awaiting humanity as time ticks down. Watch "Interstellar" on Prime Video now

Actor Kurt Russell spends July 4th visiting home of his ancestor in Arlington, Massachusetts
Actor Kurt Russell spent his Fourth of July visiting the home of his ancestor in Arlington, Massachusetts. Russell was joined by one of his sons, Boston Russell, who visited the Jason Russell House and Museum. The Hollywood star is best known for his roles in "Tombstone," "Escape from New York," and the Marvel movie, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Actor Kurt Russell spent his Fourth of July visiting the home of his ancestor in Arlington, Massachusetts. Town of Arlington Jason is Kurt's eighth great-grandfather and his son's ninth. "I'm very amazed, honored and proud of the fact that my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather was so instrumental in changing the world," Kurt said. "It's fantastic. To learn this at this time in my life is kind of shocking." Kurt Russell tours historical sites in Massachusetts Kurt said that the first time he heard about his ancestor was when his son, Boston, and his other son, Wyatt Russell, were speaking about him. Then he said that someone reached out to his agent about their connection to Jason. His ancestor fought and died during the Battle of Lexington, Concord, and Mentomy during the Revolutionary War on April 19, 1776. Jason was killed on his own doorstep, according to the legend. He also built the house, the Town of Arlington said. Kurt and his son were given a guided tour of the home, a look at their historical collection, documents from the battle, and the 13 bullet holes in the house. They then visited Jason's gravesite in the Old Burying Ground. "This coming to Arlington and understanding what took place in Mentomy, which became Arlington, and the connection that I have with learning about him is kind of fascinating because I'm already hearing things that remind me of my father, my grandfather, my great-grandfather that I remember in my life. Maybe even in myself. DNA is a funny thing. That's what I'm being struck by, how connected. It wasn't that long ago," Russell explained. Kurt said that there were some connections to the area that he hadn't even realized, like his son's name, Boston, which had nothing to do with the city. He also mentioned that April 19 is significant in their family already, as it is his stepdaughter Kate Hudson's birthday. "We keep finding these connections that are pretty fun," Kurt said. Kurt Russell with the executive director of the Arlington Historical Society, Matt Beres. The Town of Arlington "We'd like to thank Kurt Russell and Boston Russell for being our guests and stepping back into history with us as we celebrate the birth of America, remembering the sacrifice of people like Jason Russell in the fight for our nation's independence," said Matt Beres, executive director of the Arlington Historical Society. The visit was in honor of Arlington 250, which recognizes the town's role in the Revolutionary War. For more information about the Jason Russell House and Museum, click here.

‘Awards Chatter' Pod: Kate Hudson on ‘Running Point,' Pros and Cons of Rom-Com Success and How Sia Inspired Her to Pursue a Music Career
Kate Hudson, the Golden Globe-winning and Critics Choice, SAG, BAFTA and Academy award-nominated actress who has been a bona fide movie star for 25 years, is getting some of her best reviews in years for her recent pivot to TV with the Netflix comedy series Running Point, on which she serves as an EP and plays a version of Jeanie Buss, the owner of the Los Angeles Lakers. Last week, the inaugural Newport Beach TV Fest honored her with its Performer of the Year Award (Actress) — but first, she sat down at the fest with THR to record an episode of our Awards Chatter podcast. Over the course of the conversation, Hudson, 46, reflected on what she learned from growing up with Goldie Hawn as her mother and Kurt Russell are her stepfather, but also how she sought to distance herself from them as she tried to break into the business. She dished about how she came to Cameron Crowe's 2000 film Almost Famous, first in the role of the protagonist's sister, and then, following the departure of Sarah Polley from the project, the role of a groupie. She expressed gratitude for the success of 2003's How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days but admitted disappointment and frustration at the rom-com box into which it placed her for many years thereafter. And she credited singer/songwriter Sia, who directed her in the controversial 2021 film Music, with inspiring her to pursue a music career of her own.
