Ensure adequate daytime power supply to pumpsets: Additional chief secretary

Mysuru: Additional chief secretary (energy department) Gaurav Gupta on Friday said that to ensure adequate daytime electricity supply to irrigation pumpsets, the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) must work towards implementing the Kusum-C scheme quickly and effectively to become Karnataka's No. 1 ESCOM. Speaking at the review meeting here, he said, "The Kusum-C scheme will be highly beneficial in providing 7 hours of electricity during the day to farmers' agricultural pumpsets. If implemented effectively, the farmers' electricity issues will be resolved. Officials should work towards this goal". Additionally, land issues need to be resolved, and efforts should be made to acquire the necessary land for the scheme by engaging with entrepreneurs and farmers, he advised. "Assistant executive engineers should work actively and respond promptly to any issues that arise. Otherwise, we may face public anger. Therefore, work responsibly," said Gaurav Gupta. "There should be more effective work in areas such as billing, meter reading, meter inspection, and preventing illegal electricity connections. Most importantly, ensure that customers do not face any inconvenience," he advised. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Earlier, CESC MD KM Munigopal Raju provided information on the progress of the Ganga Kalyana scheme, drinking water supply scheme, PM Janman, village electrification schemes, and feeder maintenance, transformer maintenance, IP set registration, and other matters within the corporation's jurisdiction. Karnataka generates 200MW solar power under Kusum-C; 545MW to follow

Under the Kusum-C scheme, which aims to solarise agricultural feeders and provide daytime electricity supply to farmers' pumpsets, 200MW of electricity is being produced. In the coming months, 545MW of electricity will be generated, stated energy minister KJ George. Speaking to reporters after the energy department's progress review meeting of Hassan district, held on Friday at the Zilla Panchayat hall in the city, George said, "Under the Kusum-C scheme, construction of solar units with a capacity of around 200MW is completed. In the next few months, solar units with a capacity of 545MW will be commissioned at 93 locations. This will help provide an adequate daytime electricity supply to farmers." "The state govt has set a target of generating 2,400MW of solar electricity through feeder solarisation of agricultural pumpsets under the Kusum-C scheme. Recently, chief minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated a solar power unit established under the Kusum-C scheme in Gauribidanur. The feeder solarisation work is progressing at a rapid pace," the energy minister added. Under the Kusum-C scheme, generating 1MW of electricity requires 4 acres of land. If govt land is available, CM Siddaramaiah has directed that it be allocated free of cost. However, private power producers must pay ₹25,000 per acre, which will be deposited with the district commissioner and used to improve govt schools and anganwadis in villages where the substations are located, the minister elaborated. "If private land is used, developers awarded the power generation contracts will lease the land and pay landowners a minimum of ₹25,000 per acre," George said. Of the 4 lakh unauthorised irrigation pumpsets in the state, 3 lakh are already regularised. For pumpsets within 500m of power feeders, transformers will be installed by the department. Those beyond 500m will receive solar pumpsets under the Kusum-B scheme, he said. Earlier, during a progress review meeting, the district MLAs raised issues concerning the energy department in their constituencies. In response, George instructed the CESC MD to take swift action and reiterated that officials should proactively consult elected representatives and follow through on their suggestions. MP Shreyas Patel , MLA and Housing Board chairman KM Shivalingegowda, MLAs K Manju, Swaroop Prakash, CN Balakrishna, HK Suresh, and S Manjunath were present.

Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He was speaking after inaugurating the pilot project launched by the CESC to install transformers near irrigation pumpsets. The aim is to provide quality electricity to farmers' agricultural activities and reduce power distribution losses in Nerale Kere village in Srirangapatna taluk. "This project, which benefits farmers, is designed to benefit not just one individual but all local farmers. In a few months, around 950 megawatts of electricity will be generated under the Kusum-C scheme by CESC, and all necessary efforts, including land acquisition, are being made for this," he said. "Under the renewed rapid electricity connection scheme, if farmers pay around 22,500 rupees, unauthorised electricity connections will be legalised. Farmers must make use of this programme and avoid obtaining unauthorized electricity connections," he said. CESC managing director KM Munigopal Raju stated that a lot of work is being done with the intention of making significant progress in CESC's operations. "Typically, one or two Irrigation Pump (IP) sets require one transformer. But currently, one transformer is connected to 7-8 IP sets. However, the plan is to install one transformer for one or two IP sets as it will reduce power distribution losses and greatly benefit farmers. Due to financial constraints, it is not possible to implement this plan everywhere," he said.

New substations to improve power supply in Mys: Min

Mysuru: Energy minister KG George on Wednesday revealed plans to set up 44 new substations in Mysuru district to enhance power distribution. Speaking to reporters after a review meeting, he assured farmers about Aadhar linkage with irrigation pumpset connections and confirmed immediate electricity provisions for tribal settlements. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Works of these 44 power transmission substations will be completed within two years. Although there is no power problem at present, supply is becoming a problem due to lack of infrastructure. The number of power transmission substations is being increased to overcome this problem," he said. "All kinds of measures are being taken to provide adequate power to farmers' pumpsets. Out of the 4 lakh illegal pumpsets in the state, 2.5 lakh pumpsets were regularised. The department will provide transformers to pumpsets within 500 meters of the feeders. Solar pumpsets will be provided to pumpsets beyond 500 meters under the Kusum-B scheme. Similarly, feeder solarization is being done under the Kusum-C scheme to provide adequate power to farmers during the day," he said. "Our govt has set a target of generating 2,400 MW of solar power through feeder solarization of agricultural pumpsets under the Kusum-C scheme. Chief minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the solar power plant set up under the Kusum-M scheme at Tondebhavi in Gauribidanur on June 11," he said. The minister dismissed rumours regarding the discontinuation of free electricity for agricultural pumpsets due to Aadhar-RR number linkage. "This seeding work was done to ascertain how much electricity is being supplied to farmers and how many connections they have. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Along with continuing free electricity up to 10 HP for agricultural pumpsets, adequate electricity will also be supplied for seven hours. There is no doubt about this," he said. "After the chief minister's recent visit to the hamlets, necessary steps were taken to provide electricity to them and necessary infrastructure was built. Steps were taken to provide electricity to more than 600 hamlet houses," he said. State sugarcane growers' association members demonstrated outside the zilla panchayat office during the minister's review meeting. Their demands included withdrawing the Aadhar seeding proposal and compensation for farmers whose lands were acquired for high tension lines infrastructure.
